SL Forums: Whose Culture is it Anyway?

Dunno Coco - a thread that doesn't mention or involve me (like many others) and magically my name drops into your posts - Honestly I think you have a fixation. You mention me more often than my wife does (which is a source of humor in the house I'll let you know).

My language is no less colorful than many others here - Kris, Willow, Taco, Leck, many others.. But for some reason you gravitate to me.

Dunno why but I find it a lil creepy in a stalkereque kinda way.

I realise that you desperately wish to be the foremost authority on me - but Coco, you have no idea of my thoughts, motives, or reasons - you don't even know how I speak in RL (and several of the people here actually do).

Do you honestly think that saying 'fricking' and 'get the funk out' is any different? The replacement of a single letter doesn't change the context nor make it any more or less palatable.

You are the single most foul-mouthed person on these forums for that reason. And the fact that you have directed your antagonistic hostile profanity and sexually-harrassing crudity towards me has had NO SMALL PART in the fact that I notice you.

Believe me, I have no desire to notice you otherwise. Take any of those other people and they have not directed their profanity and crudity against me (except one notable drunken exception on another forums, which was since apologized for.)

That is entirely different from "colorful language," which doesn't bother me in the least. I indulge in it myself. But language designed to intimidate others that is crude and profane is supposedly against the TOS.

Don't think for a minute that I would ever be attracted to a giant 6'4" foul-mouthed bully who speaks to women the way you do me. To then suggest I'm somehow attracted to it makes me want to puke, and is just MORE sexual harrassment. I like my giants gentle. Like my husband.

I agree. Euphamisms mean exactly the same thing... so why not just say it if you mean it.

I had a highly religious grandmother wash my mouth out with soap after I said "gosh darn" in front of her. She told me it was exactly the same as God damn.. and therefore swearing... and she was right.

If your feelings about foulmouthed personal attacks are so strong Coco, put your money where your mouth is, and call out your good friend whose currently indulging in constant personal attacks, many of them foulmouthed over on SecondCitizen.

How I react to different people may have more to do with the people themselves.

"Frickin" is simply a milder way of saying "fucking" and you and I both know that. But my use of the word isn't aimed in a hostile "fuck you" manner toward other residents, as yours so very often is.

As I said before, I don't care what language people use. I care that the forums are supposedly PG but some people get away with far more. I already invited you to come duke it out on Second Citizen, where you don't have any Lindens protecting you, but you haven't taken me up on it.

And it is probably a better place for this conversation.

What kills me is that you bully people with foul, antagonistic language that you know that you can get away with, and if someone calls you on it, you say it is "poor little me." Well, screw that, buddy. You don't get to beat somebody up then tell them they have a persecution complex when they object.

I don't go to 'Second Citizen' because I don't wish to read all the crap thats there - I come to these forums for much more than the General flamefests (although they are amusing).
Why sign up for a whole set of forums that I'm simply not interested in?

I don't know if the following fits in here, but it's been a recent poke at my cultural sensibilities:

There is a new TV commercial (maybe it's Qantas, maybe it's the Australian tourist board, not sure) running in the US, encouraging folks to visit, the theme behind it being "we're ready and waiting for you." It's filled with the requisite breathtaking scenes and some clever lines (example: a hotel maid says, "the showers are working," -- the scene moves to some dramatic waterfalls).

Anyhow, the commercial ends with a stunning shot, probably the GBR, and a young, tan, blond girl in a bikini saying, "so where the bloody hell are ya?"

I tell ya, every time I see this, my jaw drops -- and I'm not sure, exactly, why. The girl is kind of young -- I'd say 15-16 -- so there is this element of the precocious, cheeky teen. The words are kind of swearing, but not really, but I'm not sure. The language is certainly no different than that used daily in rl, or on TV shows... It's odd -- as if I'm hearing something I really shouldn't be. It's a strangely "in-your-face" moment that almost feels like a dare for me to be shocked. (And, I guess, I kinda am! )

Marketing-wise, it's done it's job with me tho -- /me must plan trip, must go to Australia!

No. No. Don't try and turn this into a 'Siggy treats women badly' thing. Siggy doesn't treat women badly, he treats you badly. Big difference. He doesn't talk to me that way, or Surreal, or just about anyone else in the forums, male or female. It's an issue between Siggy and You, not Siggy and Women. Having a vagina doesn't make you immune to anything, nor should it. That's equality. Expecting people to treat you with kid gloves because you're female is the sexist part.

Lucifer, Second Citizen does not have a ridiculous so-called TOS that calls for a PG forums.

THAT is the whole difference. And that is what pisses me off. The fact that I have to sit here and be intimidated and sexually harrassed by someone like Siggy, and I can't do a damn thing about it.

Yet I received an official warning for far less.

Rather than having certain "pets" who for some reason get to say whatever they like, while others get warned for much less, make these forums MATURE.

Otherwise you get more than one person who wonders why someone is so special that he can break the rules with impunity, and then rub our faces in it.

Let Siggy come over to Second Citizen and be as foul as he wants. It won't bother me there.
