As a landowner/sim owner you have the right to set the rules of conduct. As a passerby or visiting guest I should adhere. That's not the discussion. Which isn't really the point. Weapons don't really belong in a non-combat club, and even the non-functional ones give the impression that weapons are ok. We're not going through people's inventory (even if we could), we're simply trying to establish a non-violent atmosphere where people can relax and enjoy themselves without worrying about someone else waving a sword around. I do see your point, but also remember the setting of a club. If I would enter some medieval area/sim, I'd be surprised if people would ask me to leave the sword outside by the door. As a non-combat club, and likely stated so in those rules, you have your full right to eject/ban those not conforming to those rules. No we don't. We can eject and ban, which we will do to the 3% of our visitors who cause trouble so the other 97% can enjoy their visit. You missed the point I was trying to make. Yes, you can ban; yes you can eject; but that won't keep the grievers away. More advnced script control by owners of an establishment will, by the mere reason of it just being made (almost) impossible to grief in the first place. Appearances count too. You wouldn't wear torn jeans and smelly sweatshirt to a nice restaurant would you? You wouldn't walk into a police station with a toy gun strapped to your hip, would you? Appearance count. Then you can also see that some people apperances, like being modelling/rp-ing some sort of Lara Croft are relying on the image of two guns strapped to the hips? (I don't recall Lara shooting in pubs  )Again, it has all to do with the entourage of a club... A Lara Craft character would have more problems getting accepted in a club from the middleage/fantasy centuries then a Xena The Warrior Princess would. I don't agree that we're losing the battle. I actually think LL's move to capturing MAC addresses helped to control some of the alt-griefing. And I think today's no-push feature on land tools will help even more. The more we are in control of our own destiny the better for us and our visitors. We want to be a welcoming, friendly place, not a Gun Emporium. MAC filtering isnt' the solution for alts either. MAC addresses can be "faked". And often, swithing a network card, or even a modem will give someone a fresh different MAC and it start from the beginning. The no-push is definately one of the better tools. Limiting the number of active scripts an Av can have (if it's not implemented yet) would be a good second. Combine this with a no script are for the club (or scripts only set to be run by owner/group/officers/members) this would elimate most of the grievers except the hardened ones. My experience with grievers personally (from being doing something in a non-combat sandbox) was to be send hurling into a cage somewhere... And this everytime when I came back... Reported the person after asking few times nicely to get it over with to no avail. Now I would just toggle on some defences and repell the whole thing and just plainly ignore them. From other games, I've learned to ignore them. Grievers = a bunch of people, more often then not nothing more then scriptkiddies, who crave attention. By not giving it to them and showing that their efforts have no affect at all, they will get bored soon and leave. Just my 2cts. |

Maybe you don't understand the difference between a gun and a shoe? 1. Nobody's pouting - some clubs just have rules forbidding guns and don't make exceptions because someone wants to look macho. 2. It is ALL about appearances. If you're in a crowded club where the other 30 people are all unarmed, dancing and chatting but you're packing heat (even if it's non-functional heat), it does not promote the fun and safe atmosphere we're after. And if we make an exception for you because your guns are pretty, it makes it harder to tell the next person to put away the Seburo sim-clear he's waving around. No you don't. Your name is too normal. And you wear a penis? Oh, spare me. Get back to me after you manage a club that gets griefed 2 or 3 times per day and we'll see how you feel.
