My big 3 : 1) Lack of investment in their account, by time, money, or other means. 2) Lack of care for the feelings or thoughts of other people... the lack of willingness to read or listen. 3) Past history of bad behaviour or of being associated with people who have a history of bad behaviour.
Typical signs of #1 : * Born very recently. * Av looks like it was thrown together, or is just a 'default' or library av. * Unverfied payment status. * Blank or sarcastic profile. * Not a member of any invite-only groups.
Typical signs of #2 : * Being in places that are clearly meant for a niche audience, without having any of the identifiable signs of being a member of that niche group. * Refuses to read signs (e.g. rule signs), listen to other Residents, or generally take instruction or information. * Wears a gun or other weapon, even sheathed (a lot of people are uncomfy around weapons, and I'm one of them. Wearing a weapon you *know* other people you're around are not comfy with is at best impolite and at worst a subtle form of griefing).
Typical signs of #3 : * Is a member of any of the griefer groups, or any of the 'joke site' groups that are frequently used by griefers. * Is banned in other places, especially estate banned in other places. * Complains about their treatment by landowners or admins (people who have been genuinely mistreated don't whine about it in public, they contact the admin concerned and get it addressed. 90% of public whining for 'unfair treatment' is done by griefers and people who think they have rights to things they don't have rights to).

From: Cinthya Vavoom Ya like you can tell what you got orbited by be it a hud weapon or a hand weapon or anything else that you can't see attached to the AV However, not many people feel threatened by hair or any other mundane or invisible object. The point, in RL and in SL, for people holding or wearing weapons (whether in use or not) is to give forth an impression of power. Many griefers like to visually intimidate...and in many cases this means holding visible, identifiable weapons. Despite the fact that, yes, pretty much any old boring prim in SL can be turned into a weapon with the proper scripts, visible guns are very obvious symbols of threat. Cindy, and every other club manager, is perfectly in the right to demand that patrons remove all visible guns as a precaution.

From: Cinthya Vavoom You probably got banned be someone that you did wrong in your power trip so don't cry about it. I don't normally ban based on sheer idiocy, but I think I'll make an exception in your case.

Another warning sign that someone may be a griefer: presenting themselves as police, security guard or assassin-for-hire. Very much a "wolf in sheep's clothing" situation. I've found that most of these folks just want a legitimate-sounding excuse to shoot people. Oh, and if you refuse to hire them, chances are good they'll shoot ya.

Ok what excuse next? this is a little off the talk of guns but since you brought RL into it Now, How about Grim babys? the excuse to use them is they are just prims people try to say its not RL. Ok so just because something looks like a gun in SL means nothing if this is how people feel about the matter. And for griefers all i've run across have not used guns. and as for guns I weare them not for a look or power or anything like that I do because im creative with my outfitts and don't like like everyone else running around SL. if you See me in SL you will understand more what i mean about all pieces of my outfitt going with the other. if you can find me something that looks as good or better to put on my legs that go with my outfitts that don't look like guns I would weare them but until then guns are what go best with it so thats how it is. So when you use the Excuse about guns in RL think of RL babys and grim babys in SL.

What does being deaf have to do with being able to spell correctly? I can plug my ears AND type with my eyes closed and still spell most of the words correctly.

From: Cinthya Vavoom Ya its the cry babys like you that turn normal upstanding people into haters and griefers, of people like you. Well I guess you can add me to your list of "cry babys" (spelled babies btw) like Cindy. I run a D/s community sim thats a little different from most clubs that just throw bdsm in their keywords. 99% of sexual activity is private, most of what we do is hold classes and dances and the occasional party plus a lot of time spent just hanging out enjoying each other's company. Before this recent greifer idiots on parade trend, we were a lot more relaxed. If someone showed up wearing guns it wasn't a big deal, we actually had the rule that as long as they're not drawn and used they're fine. But now the comfort level of my members is my priority. The majority of my members have said seeing guns makes them nervous, therefore I say no guns. Frankly what they feel is way more important to me than letting you keep your little decorations. And yes despite this rule, I am perfectly aware that the best weapons in SL don't look like weapons at all, which is why I watch for other signs as well. But my point is, and I believe Cindy would agree with me, what YOU want matters very little to me compared with what the majority of my members want and the majority opinion on these things has changed over the last few weeks. One of the things I've heard coming up soon that is going to help with all this will be the new group tools. One of them is the ability to limit prims and scripts for anyone not in a group and allow all group members to be able to use the prims and scripts they want. What this means as I understand it, (and really hoping I'm correct) is that anyone who is a group member lands on the sim they'll be able to do anything they want, but anyone who is NOT a group member, no script they are carrying on them or try to rez will work. IF the information I've heard on this is right, it will be (IMO) the most effective anti-griefing tool yet.

Also truning off scripts would solve the grifing problem until this fix comes, but if you use xcite parts or others like it im guessing it would make them not work either.

Some idiot showed up in my store telling me he was looking for a security job, that he would guard my store for me for 500L$ a day. I told him no thankyou and he tried saying he'd already just spent like an hour in my mall guarding it so I owed him money. When I laughed at him the idiot said he would "kill my ass". *still laughing at the memory* His gun wasn't so effective anymore when I froze him three times in a row before i ejected him. Poor guy never even got to fire it.

jezebella you obviously have no clue about the deaf, they usually do have problems with reading and spelling. i don't know why, possibly because it's harder for them to lock the spelling to something- even with english and its goofy exceptions the hearing still have more words fit than not. so stop being insulting, especially when you haven't the first clue. your post was the stupidest and rudest thing i've read today and that says quite a bit in these forums.
cynthia- all the hearing are not rude, clueless morons that assume that everyone has the same strengths they have. sorry about that.
sorry to get off-topic but her post was completely uncalled for and has been reported.

Yes and you will never understand like many hearing people. You will never understand how hard reading and writing/spelling is for people born deaf to learn, and remember correct spelling of words. Im guessing you don't know signlanguage either like most hearing people, unless you have a born deaf or a went deaf person in your family or a friend that is.

From: Cinthya Vavoom Ok what excuse next? this is a little off the talk of guns but since you brought RL into it Now, How about Grim babys? Wow, you are all over the place with this rather unusual use of logic...and, oy, so shrill. Eesh. You know, common sense basically says that something that looks like a weapon will be perceived as a threat in SL. It seems you'd rather be argumentative with people who ask you, quite reasonably, to remove your weapons (even if they are fake) instead of being considerate of their wishes. Maintaining a fun atmosphere and a safe environment I would say trumps vanity weapons every time. Hell, when I had an ornamental gun holstered to my leg and walked into Club Valkyrie long ago, I was asked to remove it by the management. And you know what I did? I apologized for having it on and I removed it right away. No big stink raised about "But it's not reeeal! And it's part of my ouuuuutfit!" THAT'S how a considerate adult acts in a situation like that.

Its ok, I didn't mean anything bad about hearing people, I was trying to say to jezebella that it would be hard for a hearing person to understand a deaf persons world, like it would be hard for me and other deaf people to understand the hearing persons world

I just did a little search and Cinthya I apologize for the baby's = babies remark. The rest of what I say about guns still stands ... but I should know better than to correct people's spelling when I myself use a spell checker often. From: someone To become readers, children must learn the mapping between the spoken language they already know and printed words on a page. For English, as for most languages, that mapping is based on sound. The way I understood this is basically, we sound out words to know how they're spelled. Well how do you sound out a word you've never heard. Everything would have to be memorization and no one has THAT good a memory. http://goldin-meadow-lab.uchicago.edu/PDF/2001/GM_Mayberry2001.pdf
