Frankly, it's not a scam, I make money off each one but only %10. And now the asset server seems to be broken. I wonder if that's the Lindens cleaning up after your scheme. Don't even think about doing anything like this again until you've figured out WHY it's illegal. |

Well, it looks like a made a monster. This was just a wacky idea that kept me up 2 hours one night. When I was 6 years old my dad told me about this thing. You'd see flyers everywhere that said make $300 a week stuffing envelopes. Just send a dollar to this address. Then you'd get a paper in the mail that said hang flyers that say make $300 a week... So I thought I'd try an electronic version of it. Only this way, no one can cheat and not send out the envelopes. So I made it, released it and oooooh lordy. The opinions have been really polarized. Frankly, it's not a scam, I make money off each one but only %10. But the people that buy them seem happy, here's one response. Dear, Bafilius Goff I truly and greatly apreciate the service your magic money has provided me i have sold many in my first day and plan to sell many more i have had many people enjoy it and i as well do enjoy it, it is one of the best investments i ever made and i would do it again in a heartbeat Your supporter ..... ..... I'll leave the name anonymous. Apparently the thing is buggy though so I'll try to contact the Lindens to try to wipe them out. Take care all. Wow there is some definitive proof, we were all so wrong! Thank you for shining the light of truth on us by showing us how you can write your own fan mail. Your infomercial testimonial writing skills are excellent, if this whole pyramid scheme thing doesn't work out for you, you've got something to fall back on. _____________________

Yup, I've tried to respond politely to everyone who's contacted me about this even though they've mostly been rude. Donating it is a great idea though. But I've spent most of the 1500 or so I've made. Maybe you can talk to the other people in my Magic Money group. Thanks. Actually, when I tried to interview you about this, you didn't want to chat. You just gave me a couple of notecards. And I wasn't rude at all. BTW, the article on this subject is in this week's M2, though y'all already know most of what is in the story. _____________________

How do you guys do business with Autoreturn not on? We didn't have it on for a while, but people leave so much stuff just laying around, especially when we sold out stuff in boxes, they'd drop the box on the ground, unpack and leave the box behind.. Logged in one day looked like a freaking lego store exploded.
I saw one of these money things at one of the big camping chair places.. silly me I went out there thinking a cool event must be going on.. I looked at it and laughed and thought.. "Who in their right mind is gonna pay that thing." I think I'll just start dropping junk around that says. "Pay me for info on how not to go broke on SL." When you pay it, it'll say.. STOP BUYING STUPID THINGS!! <I'm not really going to make these so if you see them I didn't do it." |

Well it appears people have paid money into these things. they are targeting newbies...As i said before they seems to be getting grteedy and placing these in non low traffic areas now. |

Actually, we have a good system for manual cleanup on our land and I don't use auto return because I don't want to have to require a group. I have at least 3 (if not more) vendors that wouldn't rent from me if i *did* require one. Manual cleanup takes me about a minute tops each morning. Thats all. And we have consistently decent traffic.
![]() But I digress...i'm curious what LL is going to do with this considering this "apology". And I wonder if he did indeed go to them and as to rid us of these things. Somehow I am doubtful. _____________________

I sent you the notecards and said I'd like to talk if you would be polite. Kind of glad we didn't talk now because you probably would have misquoted me. Probably would have been pointless either way because no one seems to want to listen to me they just want to use me as an outlet to vent their rage. Ah well. |

How to tell the owner.
04-04-2006 20:40
To find out the name of the people leaving the magic money things all over SL, all you need do is right click them. Then click more, then click rate. Then click owner. This gives you the name of the owner.
It's a shame that negative ratings have been removed. |

bafilius, you could go a bit in restoring goodwill if you instructed your group to stop putting these items out on land that does not belong to them. It is not ethical nor socially acceptable, and by now, most - if not all - of your participants have been advised of this. I suggest that you, personally, ask them to stop littering the landscape with them, and to ask landowners before they put them out.
Of course, here's the obvious question: if you want to do this and make money, why aren't you renting stalls for this? Why are you trying to make money using land that landowners and renters pay tier and rent on without giving back to them? That's one reason a lot of people are getting upset. |

I actually have adressed my group about this but membership is not mandatory and I can't speak for all involved. As far as placement is concerned, I have 3 of my own placed right now, 2 on land that I own and 1 that I was given permission to place. I've apologized as sincerely as I can to everyone here in the forum and directly in response of their IM's. Unfortunately I can't speak for those people who are not trying to handle this graciously. |

Just had two of these $ objects placed at the Luskwood telehub by someone who's been banned there, and is a member of your group. Deleted them, and they were right back 10 minutes later. (Of course, mainland ban doesn't do anything, but.. still. it's the principle of the matter.)

I will say this. If you put an object called "Magic Money!" without the quotes somewhere a marker can not be placed within 70 m of that marker. However, I've heard that an old copy got out that doesn't have that failsafe.
