From: Tiberious Neruda The grid has been down for updating every Wednesday for the past two months now.
Were I a paying customer (and before the stipend announcement, I would be by now), I'd be absolutely furious at this point.
Since updating is going to happen anyway, and dick all of us users over every week, why should players be charged 100% of the fees for only slightly more than 85% of the service? And with the grid having to come down at other times due to griefing or other problems, it averages out to 85%... so it seems like the fair thing to do is pretty obvious... Yes, you're right. I think LL should just leave it alone and never fix anything. We can all wallow in bugs. As a new but paying customer, yes, I am disappointed when the site is down, but pleased that they are paying enough attention to it to fix things. I have been to too many sites where the owners just get them "good enough" and then seemingly abandon them, and those sites are far less complex than this one. I applaud LL's efforts. Another thing is that were the site not currently down, I would be IW, rather than learning things here.

Trader1: I have no problems with updating. My position, however, is and has always been that patching need not be a regular and disruptive thing.
Let's draw up an analogy, shall we? You routinely order from a pizza joint. Almost all the time, your toppings cover the entire pie, and have decent density. All is well, right?
Well, something changes... your pizzas are routinely delivered with a full 1/7 of the pie plain dough, with not even sauce on it, and what toppings there are seem like they put an individual-sized packet on your 16" large.
You'd be upset, right?
Whoops. No, you wouldn't be... the last time you ordered, it was just like you remembered it in the good old days.

That is also no excuse, but you are learning things here to keep the time, what about the rest of us who know what we need to know? None of us is calling for a total stoppage, but rather a fix on bugs that were here before you even got here. Increasing stability and implementing better griefer aids. As it is, alot of the bug fixes out in the last two updates were for NEW introductions from LL that were not necessary and should have been at the bottom of the list behind bug fixing.

From: Allana Dion So you think the employees who live and work on Pacific Standard time should have to get up and come to work in the middle of the night so that you're not inconvienanced for a few hours? As the creator and developer of a 24/7 educational service I can say, nay scream, an emphatic yes. I do many major databse upgrades at night on th East Coast to avoid late night West Coast users (much less out-of-the-country). It is in no way ridiculous for people to expect the same here. We coul never have succeeded as an online service without people being available and/or watching the system the same hours it was available, namely 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You don't get weekends off with an online service.
I am NOT advocating a 'leave it the hell alone' approach, and think that would be as much of a problem as consistent updates.
I AM, however, saying LL should hold off on updating until they can accumulate enough changes and preemptive bugfixes for those changes so they don't have to bring the grid down every week and disrupt everything.
The point I'm trying to make here is that while we really should have changes and improvements, they should be relatively infrequent.
Please read the thread before opening your mouth and inserting your foot, thank you. thank you.

From: Zoe Llewelyn Well, I too am a paying customer! And an island owner too! And I am furious! I am out of coffee and none of the coffee pubs in my area deliver! This is outrageous and I refuse to tand for it! They won't get a single penny from me again....at least until I get off my arse and go to their store again and buy more coffee. But until then, I am furious and won't take it any more! *sneaks in and puts large mounds of coffee..... on Zoe's Island*
