If you're so upset, you should call LL and scream at them to refund your money.

That would take away all their fun. Forum trolls don't want to complain, they want to publicly complain, and they don't care if LL listens, they just want everyone else to listen.

(Yes, of course they're forum trolls, at least the cronic complainers whose names we're all familiar with by now are. If they were honestly as unhappy as they say, they wouldn't be here any more. They're still here because trolling is the game they most like to play.)

The grid has been down for updating every Wednesday for the past two months now.

Were I a paying customer (and before the stipend announcement, I would be by now), I'd be absolutely furious at this point.

Since updating is going to happen anyway, and dick all of us users over every week, why should players be charged 100% of the fees for only slightly more than 85% of the service? And with the grid having to come down at other times due to griefing or other problems, it averages out to 85%... so it seems like the fair thing to do is pretty obvious...

I think you should start your own company and spend a few million dollars showing those good for nothing jerks how to do things right.

Well I'm going to give up waiting and go to bed.

I'd love an outage like this to happen right over a US peak time for 4-5 hours or more. Then I bet there'd be a lot different response on the forums.

BAH This is MY primetime, I work nights in the US. I however have played enough online games over the past few years to realize YES UPDATES HAPPEN and YES THERE ARE OFTEN ISSUES RELATED TO THE UPDATES THAT CAUSE FURTHER DOWNTIME. The world does not come to a screeching halt if SL's down for a few or even 24 hours. Go outside look at the sun, the moon and stars. Have a beer, rent a movie, play with the kids, whatever. It'll get fixed eventually.

I just think its dead fucking stupid that they don't do the maintinence and patches in the way early AM.

Seems to me that the timescale is currently aimed at upsetting the largest number of folks ;P

I think the timescale is aimed at normal working hours for LL, and not having to pay overtime to the minions.

Of course, that's going to have to change if they're serious about SL becoming another "platform" for business. A web hosting company that performs its maintenance every week in the middle of prime working hours would find itself with no customers before too long.

You've enjoyed sl for 2 months for no charge whatsoever and your pissed that you can't play for a few hours?
your post title is correct - this is completely insane.

I pay and I consider it mildy irritating at best (or worst) but certainly nothing to make me furious or insane.

Although I appreciate that the Lindens work in Pacific time and this must be reflected in the times that the system is worked on, I wonder why it takes 4 hours to do the updating ?

In Europe it means an outage spanning 3pm to 7pm.

I suppose I will have to talk to the family :)

I agree totally, when this happens, it makes me realize that I spend too much time on the computer LOL! So maybe people should realize that it's second life, not Real LIFE! I figure, it'll be up when it's up, till then I will converse with REAL people.

Imagine your trying your damndest to make your tier payments from what your earning in SL, and they have it down once a week for at least half a day...thats 2 full days out of every month our investment earns SQUAT!!!! Ok dont put us down for wanting to take full advantage of the game and try and make a few bucks to offset land fees...and not to mention additional time, like today that it is STILL down. I can only hope that they have a little server there on site that they could test these patches on first???? hmmmm just an idea...but i think its a necessity to try and keep the grid up as much as humanly possible. Now maybe the e-mail bug could only fail in the main grid, dont ask me im not a rocket scientist. My forte is customer service, and hmmm i gotta say this sucks....they should compensate the paying customers in some form, and possibly take it out of whoevers dept's bonus for this month, thats responsible for seeing this patch work right..this concept seems to work well in the real world...hmmm is it real or is it memorex??? oh well i just needed to rant a bit...like its going to do any good, but at least i do feel better, thank you everyone for listening...hi im cinda and im hooked on SL........................

You know what the best part of these threads are. It doesn't matter if you are upset or not. The outages...will still happen. Consider it a great time, to catch up on forum posts*grins*. Not meaning to sound insensitive. It's just a part of playing an MMORPG.

My 2 cents.

The new snapshot stuff is an effect of the improved UI based on XUL which itself fixes many issues with the UI and makes UI changes such as snapshots very simple.

Snapshots are a flashy feature that was improved but the main change that makes all these features possible is the XUL UI..

XUL stands for XML User Interface Language.

If you see many changes to the UI from now on, that's because it's become very easy to change the UI.

Read the TOS, same with your internet supplier, same with your phone supplier. When they go down, you get nothing.

Bug fixes are fixes from new things that were not needed (as desparately as stability, etc.), so listing all those fixes isn't a valid argument.

And those who are saying ANY MMO goes down like this and yadda yadda, firstly.. no they don't. I have not known any MMO to consistently, [weekly pull 7-8 hours updates, then go down later for another 2-4 hours, and randomly a few hours any other time. And yes, I have known of MMO's to go down for that much at one time or another, but not constantly . Nor can I count on them every update day to go back down for however long.

On any given week, SL is down for more than 15 hours. This doesn't include griefring, since other games aren't as succeptable as others (although it does appear since registration was removed, griefing incidents have increased).

I knew of 2 MMO's that went down often. AC2 (defunct) and Horizons (closing in on defunct, since they added and deleted so much then bugged it out and now that it's stable are afraid to introduce new content, numbers went from 200,000+ on release to just around 5,000 now).

No, what it means is they don't HAVE to give you anything, but those that rate high in customer service, usually do to be nice! :)

So you think the employees who live and work on Pacific Standard time should have to get up and come to work in the middle of the night so that you're not inconvienanced for a few hours? Do you also think your dentist should have sunday hours and your bank should be open til midnight to accomodate you?

Honestly people there isn't a service of any kind that doesn't inconveinance its customers occasionally and there isn't an online game that doesn't require some update and downtime. Read a book (thats what I'm doing between cooking dinner and reading forums) or go for a walk or watch TV or snuggle a sexy mate, whatever. I promise SL will be back tomorow. If it's not by then I'll be going through the withdrawals and crying with the rest of you I promise that too. :p

It's not insane that the game is down for fixes after an update, because that happens in every single game with every single update, even ones with test servers.

what IS insane is that people always get upset about it, in every single game, even though it ALWAYS happens.
