The grid has been down for updating every Wednesday for the past two months now.
Were I a paying customer (and before the stipend announcement, I would be by now), I'd be absolutely furious at this point.
Since updating is going to happen anyway, and dick all of us users over every week, why should players be charged 100% of the fees for only slightly more than 85% of the service? And with the grid having to come down at other times due to griefing or other problems, it averages out to 85%... so it seems like the fair thing to do is pretty obvious...

Didn't you know that what you are paying right now is only 85% of what Linden Labs normal prices are? You get 85% of content, you pay 85% of the cost. If they ever get it up to 100% you'll just have your account and tier fees raised. Imagine the bitching when that happens!

I don't think that is every going to happen.. A couple of yrs ago lj went down for two hours or so and they gave all paying customers an extra two weeks free, all you had to do was go to a certain webpage, pop in some info and viola you had another two weeks free of charge. Our internet provider went offline for a few hours one time, I called them to see what was up, and they gave us free time d/t thier muck up. I know in both instances it made the customers involved happy

Many paying customers in other games go through this weekly so it isn't like games being down for patches/updates on a weekly basis is a new thing.

Europe is getting the short end of the stick -- again. Well I'm going to give up waiting and go to bed. I'd love an outage like this to happen right over a US peak time for 4-5 hours or more. Then I bet there'd be a lot different response on the forums. Lewis

Lewis The grid went down a few days ago during US peak time... the response was about the same.

I am a paying customer, and the outage does not upset me at all. However, I am a tech and understand that bugs (from minor to disasterous) happen. If you're so upset, you should call LL and scream at them to refund your money. ...oh wait

I just think its dead fucking stupid that they don't do the maintinence and patches in the way early AM.
Seems to me that the timescale is currently aimed at upsetting the largest number of folks ;P

Well, I too am a paying customer! And an island owner too! And I am furious!
I am out of coffee and none of the coffee pubs in my area deliver!
This is outrageous and I refuse to tand for it! They won't get a single penny from me again....at least until I get off my arse and go to their store again and buy more coffee. But until then, I am furious and won't take it any more!

Bitch bitch bitch everytime there is something that needs rectifiying. Just go with the flow people, for if you were in their shoes you would have be the one called upon to come up with solutions that others would be discontented with as well.

As a completely non-paying customer, I'm simply RABID! Since I don't pay any fees every week, and I only get 85% of what I consider to be full service, especially while I have to deal with so many whiny people like me bitching every time the grid comes down, it seems the fair thing to do is pretty obvious... LL should be giving me that 15% back to ME!
