Upcoming Changes for Adult Content: Answers to Questions

In the end getting the attention of a linden does nothing. You must understand this is a major change in LL marketing focus.. To put it bluntly, they don't give a shit what we think, the best we could hope for is they'll make a mis-step that we'll pounce on and tut over.

I'm certainly not going to spend any more time there than I have to, wading through the morass of whining about why this topic is taking up so much thread space is just too much sometimes, along with the "glad you're being shunted off, you dreadful pornographers you." type comments.

If you really want to indifference at work, try the SLU forums where Brenda did her damnedest to get them to believe they'd be affected and at last look they had pretty well brushed her aside.

Originally , I was under the impression the required age was to be 18 yrs of age, now I am hearing rumors that it is to be age verified at 21 being able to access adult content, could someone please IM me inworld with the link to where i might find this information , or tell me which is correct, (has interest in adult contented sim is why i am concerned) I am im my 40's so i am definately old enough LOL. First a little background...

I run a modest sized BDSM community with around 3,000 members in the group. Our group Clubhouse is located on mainland MATURE mountain side land. We set up our first 512 parcel there because it was an adult mature region, we didn't know much about SL then but we had a vision inspired by the freedoms SL afforded to create a community where people of all cultures could mingle and indulge in their kinks without fear of prejudice or prudery.

Soon others joined us and before long with the help of good 'open minded' friends we added more land and the clubhouse grew. We made sure that we bought land in the same sim even though it wasn't always right next to our central location, because this gave us the chance to add more prim heavy furniture and features for our group members to use. Many of whom had no place in SL they could call home.

We never set out to own half region, never even knew we might need as much some day but we grew organically both in group numbers and in space we required.Now because our group owned land is scattered around the region and some parcels are what some would call fallow. I now have a genuine fear that when this purge gets underway LL will tell us that we can only relocate half our territory because the other half doesn't seem to be Adult.

Those seemingly empty parcels actually form a free to use parkland where guests who are so inclined can engage in open air sex.

No one who arrives at our clubhouse and community has sex shoved in their faces - it's made very clear on our land description what we are about. All the health warning have always been in place and yes we help our new guests find us by using racy keywords search.

Now the point is a few days ago I felt it prudent to let our group base know whats going on. I naively assumed that most would have been aware of LL plans. Imagine my dismay when it became apparent that almost 75% of my members had no idea that ;-

A - Linden Labs version of ethnic cleansing was being planned and that their clubhouse facilities will need to be relocated and

B - That they would be locked out unless they got themselves adult verified

I'd highly recommend that everyone who has groups or communities start raising awareness of whats going down, (if you haven't done so already) keep your customers informed and if possible unite to oppose this Stalinist action.

I will be preparing a protest pack for my group members, I urge other to do the same. At the end of the day it won't make one iota of difference to Linden Labs decision but at least we will have the satisfaction of making a stand

Make a notecard explaining whats up, use search/groups for groups that have naughty adult words, join the free to join ones, and send out a notice with your notecard (or send it to the group owner if you are not allowed to send notices) with this comment attached:

"Linden Labs is changing the rules for adult activities in second life. Since this group is adult oriented, it's members should know about this. See the attached note for details."

"Other social networks". Are we going to see some sort of merge with My Space of Face Book? The "You are in SL what you are in RL" crowd? "Get on voice and webcam right now and prove you are what you appear to be?"

Great idea...pass the word about it and maybe SL will pay more attention to us when they see their profits tumble......even better don't buy at all right now ^ ^

Agreed. I asked people to respond to the threads on Xstreet not for the lindens exactly, but to inform more of the userbase there. It's my experience that more general residents read the Xstreet forums than will read this blog. The fact that I mentioned the more visible linden presence is related to my idea that if the Lindens see people getting informed and watching the shitstorm grow (as it will as more residents become aware of the problem) MAYBE this might get them to rethink this move.

I'm sure there are tons of businesses who are looking at the vibrant, active, innovative corporate presences in SL now, and are just chomping at the bit to get their own smokin' hot spot of mainland.

No, you have a very good point. People are going there to shop and happen to see the forum threads scrolling to the left out of the corner of their eyes. It is a great place to shift this conversation into a more visible place that attracts more residents than this particular forum.

See if you can't get a couple of the Lindens over there to take time out of their busy schedules to drop by their official forums.

They could, but that would break some nice Restrained Life viewer features, for example the force tp stuff which you can use to build sim crossing teleporters. Won't work with landing points set. If LL would enable landing points on a group base (all non group members are redirected to a landing point) that would be nice.

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out it might be a good idea to find out what's in a region before teleporing in, instead of parachuting in blind. Especially if you're easily offended.

Anyone who drops in some strange place like that deserves whatever they get.

I totally agree. If LL isn't going to inform their residents (their customers) then we should. I have sent a notecard out to all of the groups that I own with a link to this forum thread and asked them to come and read and post their opinion.

I would encourage anyone with the ability to send out a group notice to their groups to do the same. Let's get the word out.

I only found out a few days ago from a friend and then later a customer told me about it. LL had no intention on letting me know via email or on the webpage. They hid all of this away in forum posts hoping that not many would find out about it before it was too late.

Interesting quote. Everyone of my friends that is not on SL and hears about this in the media or from me thinks it is totally stupid, typical US prudishness and bigottery and silly. And if you ever looked at other social networks you might have noticed all the photos about drinking alcohol, flirting and other types of stuff. Oh, and you should probably look at some BDSM social networks too if you make such a statement.

I've now seen Meta Linden pop in to the Xstreet forum four or five times in three hours or so. She's there now, 1:39 slt.

I've never used Xstreet or SLX and until recently didn't even know they had a forum. What is the consensus there on this situation? Is the outrage similar?
