Release Notes
07-07-2009 19:59
The release notes for 1.27 are currently posted at:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Beta_Server/1.27

They show the development of the server as it was tested on the beta channel of Aditi over the last couple of months. Once 1.27 is rolled into production on Agni the 'Second_Life_Server/1.27' page will be populated reflecting the production status of the code. This is the normal pattern for server and viewer releases.

A link in the blog and grid status posts would be useful but it's Dante's first deploy cycle so let's not be too critical.

Wow, lots of comments here.

Re: release notes, the official release notes aren't quite done yet. As others have indicated, you can get a really good idea of them from the beta release notes. I'd guess that 99.9% of the official release notes will be what you see in the beta release notes now, but there are still a few changes that we're evaluating. 1.27 will not be rolled out without release notes.

Gentleman Zanzibar, you made it onto the first page of comments. You got a great seat.

Celestia, I'll try to minimize the duplicate answers =)

Morgan, this update will not address SVC-3867. I've asked the developer for an update on that one.

Day Oh, I've only heard of people getting logged out when using third-party viewers (which are likely not expecting the new pop-up). Have you been disconnected when using an official viewer after you crossed the threshold? Generally speaking, the purpose of the limitation is to reduce teleport abuse.

Alisha, he had some mammoth shoes, too!

Mifune, I'm the interim server release manager. I've got another role in the Lab to fill when someone fills this position full-time. The job description is here:

Psi, thanks =)

(I ask only because it is such a pain to compile in mono right now; who actually creates scripts inworld inside objects, anyway? *grumbles*)
.

Erm. I do? Or frequently I'll take an existing scripted object, hack it into roughly the right script, create a new script inside and copy from the old script to the new, then keep working until it's right. If I was going to work not in-world I'd just edit it on my desktop (everything goes in an SVN repository anyway)...

@Dante: not putting any blame on you, but shouldn't an issue like that, that cripples the whole grid and has been reported over and over since late winter (as in, almost 6 months now), be a NUMBER ONE PRIORITY?

I can't find any 1.27 region. Can someone post SLURL to any 1.27 region?

None yet. The pilot roll is supposed to start in about three hours. (It was going to happen yesterday but was rescheduled for today.)

Is there still a pilot roll region opt-in list? My region used to be on that list, but there have been so many changes at LL I am not sure what to expect these days.

THe 60% came from a user comment. There were really two problems, reduced throughput and incorrect error messages, so the failure rate was really high.

More on that here:
https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/technology/blog/2009/07/01/a-status-update-on-group-chat

Group chat servers are apart from the sims, maybe that's why it was skipped in the release notes on the wiki?

"f we look at the successful message delivery rate in 1.25 as the baseline, and assign it the number 1.0, that delivery rate dropped to 0.32 in our current 1.26 release."

So 32/100 = 32%. 60% drop is accurate. It's not a 'user comment' but what LL themselves admitted to.

Delivery rate was one of two problems. The error messages that shouldn't have been there were a second problem.

This is how it was more than 60 percent. Our clients shut down in good sessions.

From: someone
if multiagentchat took too long to process a message to an especially large group, it could cause one of the following kinds of problem:

Delivery of messages may be delayed
Messages could get dropped
The viewer might erroneously report errors back to a Resident, even for messages delivered correctly

So when do the sims get restarted?
07-09-2009 09:12
Nearly 100 sims still down on my mainland continent, 50 or so down on another continent, just in a quick check.

What's the deal folks?

I'm hunting for a sim with 1.27 too. I thought the Linden sandboxes were usually included in the pilot rollout.

If there is a set of public regions that is normally included in the pilot roll, I was not aware of it.

Some 1.27 regions:

Apple
Apricot
Avocado
Baker
Blake

"The interest list on the simulator is responsible for transmitting all objects and changes to objects from the simulator to the viewer."

Prospero allowed region owners to request they be added to the pilot rollout list, and mine was added last year. Is there any way to get it added back on for future rolling restarts?

Wow, almost a day and no "ZOMG ROLL it BACK NEAOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!"? Neat, it's been a long time since we've had a server update without a lot of chaos =)
