Well I for one was fine when I didnt have the ability to spend hours camping and building or making clothes to get Linden. But now I have funds, just to find out what used to get 15K L now gets 5K and everyone wants 2x the price for everythig thye make. Hmmmm I started in Oct. it was reasonable there that people wanted the same price in L for stuff that you would charge in expensive department stores in USD. That was reasonable, since 1 hours work in SL would make you a months salary in SL. But now I am to buy land and compete with much more experienced people, at a cost of 5X as much as they had to pay? And you want me to honor those before me? I have no problem with thier work, dont get me wrong. I have a problem with the greedy inflation on the value of the Linden. Lets get it back to at least 5K per 10 USD. and get the damn land prices down to reasonable. Hmmmm 11K for a 512 spot? 11 K for enough room to make a one bedroom house. no cant have the bathroom, your neighbors have a pool, castle, house, garage, park, dance floor and the owner is a builder so he needs room to build e a . i mean build himself a club..... I think your first 512 land sould be locked at no more than 5K, period, and you cant withhold the sale and if someone wants to buy up land they have to expan equally from their property not leave a dinky piece of lan that no one can use stuck between them and neighbors as you build a monopoly on the other side.... One last thing, if you are goind to build some 6 story castle with ugle black rck walls next to your nieghbors japaneese garden with wide open and peaceful land, at least put a damn back ground with trees on their side when you build it up against the property marker. Im not paying for you to screw up my view!!!!! thank you and hav a wonderful day Plese fly Bidch wid U.S. again real soon Spadesrun this article in no way reflects actual transgressions on my part for I currently own no property but have witness these issues around SL and choose to complain on th behalf of those who silently put up with it Dont know why i bother any more

I read that rant three times and I'm STILL not sure I understand it. Except that you're longing for The Good Old Days and want LL to manage the economy to make things cheaper. I've never seen a managed economy that wasn't hated by the people saddled with it. Low wages, unreasonable prices, black markets, artificial shortages... Thank your lucky stars that LL manages the economy with a light hand, and be grateful.

OK, simply put, the first part was the cost of doing anything in SL is getting so high so fast that its ridiculous. Early someone was complaining about newbies asking for premium stuff to be made for them free, or asking for money. I agree that people shouldn't beg, work for it. But come on, some of the prices people ask for stuff is ridiculous.
The second part you actually left in the quote, was about people not taking others properties and rights into account. I have a serene Japanese garden, now my property is looking at a cold hard wall. Hmm breaks up all the time and effort and cost of puttiong together this nice open, natrual and peaceful Japanese garden. Have respect fr your niehgbors. Also putting noisy machines necxt to your property boundries, at least turn off the option to let your sounds bleed into nearby parcels. Some of these courtesies are so simple and dont cost a thing to do. Not doing them is purely rude.

Early someone was complaining about newbies asking for premium stuff to be made for them free, or asking for money. I agree that people shouldn't beg, work for it. But come on, some of the prices people ask for stuff is ridiculous. The thing is that the SL economy has always been somewhat "swinging free" with prices because the controls that exist in real life don't exist in SL. Products can be absolutely blocked from resale, so competition with resale can't push prices down. There's no issue of overpriced products piling up in a warehouse and costing money. But likewise, because there are zero production costs, even an underpriced product can become profitable if it attracts enough sales. So that's why we are getting the strange price splits that tend to happen on SL. Most "serious" merchants seem favor one of two ways: price low and hope for massive volume (ie, things things like L$150 complete outfits, or gadgets for L$100-L$400), or price high and hope for premium prestige (ie, the L$2000 outfit which gains intrinsic value because most people won't have one). The problem is that the "low prices" are becoming so low that those markets are no longer worth getting into. It's similar to Coca-Cola in real life - it took years of work to perfect the formula for Coca-Cola and to make it an established product, but its price is so low because all of that is in the past now, so it's pretty much constant profit. A competitor has to do all of that work from scratch, but has to do it with Coca-Cola already there selling at the low price it can charge because it's already done with those things - much harder and riskier.

I understand your point and valid arguements each. But the cost of research is a syou pointed out negligable in SL. Except for the cost of land, tier rental, premium account, and if you dont own enough land for a store to diplay and sell your wares, then shop rental expenses. You can't sell in a public sandbox.
Maybe it's just my idea of SL, but ... I see it as a place to get away from the stresses caused by a free market society, by means of not having to deal with profiteers and finance numbers. I would much rather just wander around nude, dancing nad meeting people. Of course being nude isnt conducive to meeting new people. so I guess i have to wear clothes. Hmm noob clothes, must be new, doesnt know anything about SL, probably gona beg for money. Better wear something in fashion. Buy clothes. Now im in fashion, wait, this took me a week to camp for and now this fashion is old. Dang it. Buy L. now to go shopping again. The stores I went to have closed, they couldnt pay their lease. better find some new ones and stay away from freebie places. Shoot another week looking for new fashionable clothes, what now clothes arent the thing? Every one is going Furry?!?! Dang, now I need a couple grand to fit in jsut to dance and not lok like an idiot. Oh that's why I don't dance in real life.....
You know what, where is IMA Noob? I see an opportunity for a new comic strip wanders off to find IMA
{PM if you want link to his comic.cause you have no idea what im talking about here}

From: spadesrun Hotshot I understand your point and valid arguements each. But the cost of research is a syou pointed out negligable in SL. I didn't say research costs were negligable in SL. Several of the gadgets I sell took me several weeks or even months of work to learn how to get working, to make intuitive enough for people to use easily, and to test enough to ensure reliability. Some of the big multitools, like the MystiTool and Multi Gadget, are the product of _years_ of work - done in incremental updates, it's true, but still years of work. I wouldn't like to try to make another multitool at this point, because you'd have to do all the work needed to catch up, but then would have to compete with the lower price points of these items which have (I believe) already repaid much of their creators' current work. From: someone I see it as a place to get away from the stresses caused by a free market society, by means of not having to deal with profiteers and finance numbers. Unfortunately, for that to happen a radically different hosting model would be necessary. Even more unfortunately, because of the huge number of vested interests in the current SL (including mine! ), LL will never be able to make those changes.

BOOT BUILDERS: if your boots..((however grunge they may be)) do not fit the calf of my avatar and the shoe part looks like Im wearing my dads boots..they ARE NOT Unisex. They're obviously made for men or amazons. Making them Modifiable doesn't really make a difference when you've added buttons on the boots that are SO SMALL that the boots can ONLY be enlarged. This tells the consumer"These boots are for men..amazon women..and bigger men" To me unisex should mean..Ive included boots built on a male AV.....I've included boots built on a female AV. The Abyss does this..bout the only ones I know of. In order foe me to truly make these fit..I have to use skills that 90 % of the SL populace doesn't have..and it irks me. ~Lana Tomba

From: Tod69 Talamasca Why? I had 2 people I work with try SL. Both said the same thing: "When I ask someone how does one go about earning money, they walk away!"
I've seen this go one of a few different ways. The sim where I hang out is near Welfare Island, so on occasion we get people that either opened the map and teleported to a random place nearby, or were bounced to a nearby location when that sim is full. Or maybe they were just looking for a Welsh pub. Who knows with some people. This is the sort of place where the regulars are all usually friendly, and the hosts are welcoming and patient. Sometimes the newbies will just ask how to dance, or if they are just standing around, someone will always tell them how. But that question--how do I get money, always make people wish they had an eyeroll gesture. The answers are usually polite and accurate. The easiest way is to buy it from the Linden website. Or if they want to earn it, you can try building things or something like that, but to give it a little while to learn more than the basics. Since the place tends to be visited by Europeans more than Americans, the visitors don't always have as easy a time with PayPal or buying Lindens with a credit card. Understandable, I suppose, but most people don't have a problem with it. My favorite, though was when the reply was something like "my mom doesn't know I'm playing so I can't ask her for her credit card." In IM we debated about ARing him. The general feeling was that since he was so polite and well behaved it would be a bit of a shame. I'm pretty sure someone did though; they thought it was really for the best. My pet peeve is seeing guys (almost always blinged out or gothed out newbies) that don't know when to stop trying to hit on a woman--especially when she's made it extremely clear that she isn't interested. The chivalrous gentleman in me wants to IM them to say "dude, whining isn't going to win her, and besides, how do you even know if she is really a woman?" The realist in me knows that all my SL friends are more than capable of taking care of themselves. And the Discordian in me thinks it is really funny to watch. I suppose a related peeve is that in the 2 years I've been in SL (and to be fair, most of it I wasn't too active), I've only been hit on (at least obviously enough or me to notice) twice. Both times I couldn't teleport away quickly enough. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but I like to get to know someone a bit before doing the, um, slithery dance balls.

Try serving your friends up. It's even funnier. I was with a woman just exploring at one point and we were wandering through a mall when some guy decided to come onto her - really rudely. I wandered off and abandoned her to him (we were in IM the whole time razzing each other about it - she has a great sense of humor and can certainly take care of herself and I was enjoying the show - hilarious). Then I IM'ed him: Me: Listen - she's hot, isn't she? Dude, you should get her in the sack. She'll do ANYTHING. Crazy. I can help you, but I'm going to need some dough. Long pause Him: How much? Me: 500,000,000 Lindens Him: But I don't have that much... Me: OK, this time only, I'll help you for free. She's really into veggie sex, so play that angle Him: ? Me: You know, carrots and potatoes and stuff. Tell her you want to lick beet juice off of her toes. TRUST me. LONG pause Her: You idiot. What did you say to him?

Ya know what REALLY burns my waffle?? People who refuse to put snow tires on their car and then forget how to drive where there's an inch of snow on the road. Damn highway noobs ought to be banned.
Graph, incessant IMs are of your own making. If they annoy you, stop them. Kind of a no-brainer. Not sure if you're bragging or complaining.
Another storm heading our way. On the weekend, though. What better excuse to kick around SL than when you're snowed in? Yay!!
