Regarding spelling checkers, someone sent me this anonymous comment

Eye have a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue

If you think teh spelling is bad you should taste my coocing.

And here is the nub of it. "C" and "K" are miles apart on the keyboard, so finger problems can't justifiably be blamed for a physical error. She is simply an absymal speller - perhaps attributable in part to her rejection of traditional schooling - and attempts unsuccessfully to hide it with her posturings.

I truly did reject school. I spent a full rear avoiing phys ed by hiding in a rolled carpet when class was on. Then my biological dad and my mum were asked to tak me away, But that was for a diffrent reason pep.

Good grief Jig, why can't you understand that with all of the MANY typos in your posts, it's nearly *impossible* to read you and actually understand what you have written? The human brain has a natural tendency to skip over words they cannot readily identify, which leaves us precious little content to actually try to absorb in your posts.

If you would just slow down, fix your typos, make sense out of your posts, people just *might* read them.

But in all seriousness, I do it all the time by mistake; be it from just hitting the keys in the wrong order or being too lazy to fix it, but typos are part of being part of an online world. Honestly, most people I talk to inworld these days understand what i mean anyways =p (I honestly just double checked this paragraph now lol)

Alex, I think everyone (except Pep) can deal with the occasional typo and misspelling. But when someone consistently and repeatedly typos and breaks sentences in strange places - it just makes me want to tune out...no matter how interesting the topic may be. My brain simply cannot process the post.

As a high school English teacher (I can already feel the flames licking at my feet for admitting that), I ALWAYS tell my students that any meaningful content is completely wasted if it's buried in a sea of typos and poor spelling. "Teh" isn't trendy--it's lazy. Even IF you have issues typing, it only takes a few extra minutes to go back and correct errors (to the best of your ability). Not all of us are scholars or grammar nazis, so no one (for the most part) will point out run on sentences, dangling participles or even comman splices. With that said, "teh" is just....well, lazy!

I think if we are in a serious thread it deserves serious attention and a best effort to make ourselves as clear as we can be..

If we are in a thread that is fun or silly or just goofing around it's to be expected that you will see some play chat..
To me there is no reason for someone to get in a twist and go epic on anyone in either type of thread for grammar or spelling unless it is a genuine attempt to derail the topic..

The fact is,if it is about good forum etiquette we need to look at both sides of that sword.
Instead of someone getting on a soap box to draw attention to someones error,they should be sending a private message..Otherwise it is an attempt to make themselves look a little smarter to everyone else around them at that other persons expense..
It is not an effort to help them notice a mistake in a positive way.

Also to say someone is uneducated or stupid because of grammar or spelling is nothing more than being insulting and Troll'ish..
There are people not as educated as others but there is nobody on the internet that is uneducated..
You shouldn't need a Harvard education to be part of the community.

The fact is SL brings in all kinds of different people from all around the world and on many different levels of education..
It's by no means every ones strongest point a lot of the time..
What some may see as lazy may be someones best effort..

It is by no means mine or anyone's place to troll them and chase them off or push their face in the mud..
When someone is pointed out in such a way as to be put on display and made to feel like they are The Hunchback of Notre Dame and feel the need to explain their RL reasons for why they spell this way or talk that way or anything..It has crossed the line..

That's when people need to do a self check and go and read the guidelines where they will find more on respecting each other than they will on grammar and spelling..

Sorry but i just don't think anyone has the right to bully up on anyone for any reason..
It's one thing when it is play..It's another when it's attacks and an effort to control others..
