Why? Seriously, explain it to me like I'm a three year old. Along with hawt, bewts, smexy, kitteh, and all that other jive. It makes me apoplectic. Makes me mute people. Makes me TP out before I violate several TOS clauses.
Yeah I'm a gnarly goat dude so of course I don't get it.

Misspelling words, using "leet" speak, and text message spellings are just some of the many things that people do because they think it makes them look cool when in reality it just makes them look stupid.

it came from typos that became fun fad words is all..like pwned is owned Teh is the sexy is secksay or sex is secks.. when i used to play a lot of unreal tournament and admined a few forums it was more just goofing around and playful.. but when someone was serious and had a point to make they would post up and you wouldn't see it.. we even called UT yewtee when we were making fun of someone or posting up screenshots of someone owning someone else... i Pwned yew in Teh Yew Tee and you are mah biotch and i am teh secksay tew yew!!! hahahaha they are just fun words from typos on the internet.. all kinds of little fads start up from the goofiest things on the internet..

Huh?
I actually spell it like that by accident quite frequently. It's called a TYPO. Unfortunately, now typing 'teh' has become a habit.
Of all the things to get over, this one is probably quite recommended.

I occasionally use those kinds of words if I am making fun of someone or having a little fun joking around.
If you get annoyed by it, you are probably taking yourself too seriously. But even I get annoyed sometimes when people talk like that a little too much. Moderation is a good thing.

I'll occasionally use one of these tongue-in-cheek, but gods help me if it becomes a habit. It's just something I picked up from teh intarwebs.

This goes back a long way. In science fiction fandom (to which I have only a tentative connection) there are words like that. They have their "Filk" rather than folk singing, their "hucksters" rather than vendors or dealers and used to go postal if you dared call it "Sci-Fi" instead of SF. Probably it's the same with other small communities. Each has their own jargon. Is it not so with SL? I prefer English but remain open minded that it has always been an evolving language. I wish "becasue" would become a standard word becasue that's the only way I seem to be able to key it.

I often type 'teh' as a typo. I reckon it's because we type 'the' so often we get very quick at it but sometimes we're too quick for our fingers.

It's only a typo if they didn't intend it.. Anyone using numbers and letters together and having their parents confused is doing it intentionally..
It used to confuse the heck out of me when i would see a bunch of chatter like that, then you see others posting up flame pics..
O.o Oh you mean they are flaming each other? It took a bit to understand it.. I think it's funny to read at times when they are having fun with it.. When they are seriously posting up like that as their way of communicating with everyone..That's when they need to be put in check..Speak so we can understand you lol more times than not it's just kids being kids..

Well, it's people just goofing off and having a fun way of communicating in a cultural context... for example, if someone typed: "'Splain, Lucy..." a select group would get it. But that would imply you understood all this perfectly, so, it's a conundrum! For those who become apoplectic seeing it, the internet must be dangerous ground...

also don't forget the influence of the all-too-short shorthand developing from those who text-message a lot on their tiny tiny phones... but personally, i blame prince for starting it all. ;0 ('i would die 4 u', etc etc ;0)

I like "borked." It sounds more broken than broke and with LL "borked" or "bork" just sounds more fitting.
But, teh is definitely a typo for me. It serves no other purpose than to say, "I think entirely too fast compared to my poor abused fingers."

teh is a universal typo and I see a lot of people do it, I never judge people if they typo nor change where I am or who I am with because of it. If it is simply teh, and a few other commonly misspelled words and you go all weird about it.. then you gots issues....... As long as the person is understood.. and teh I do not think is confusing. leet speak is something else.. and I just don't. well... sometimes, like omfg wtf

From: Ceka Cianci i am teh secksay tew yew!!!) Shouldn't that be "i am tew secksay 4 yew!!!"? "I am the sexy to you" doesn't make sense, to me at least, while "I am too sexy for you" does.

From: Raudf Fox I like "borked." It sounds more broken than broke and with LL "borked" or "bork" just sounds more fitting. Agreed. Similarly, "pr0n" is just so much more tantalizingly illicit than "porn".

The only thing that bothers me is people who abbreviate and just leave out 1 letter. What is the point of that? Just type the whole word please!! <end of rant> LOL

Most of the time teh is a typo. Unless it is being used to mock l33t speakers -- which is the most frequent intentional application. I've done both.

I type teh so often by mistake I don't need to type it on purpose.
I find the big animated images in one person's signature to be more annoying than the deviant typing.
I hate pressing the shift key and would love to see it removed from the world altogether, and when I'm in chatrooms or typing in chat in SL i will usually use all lowercase.
Sometimes I'm tempted to try all lower case here, and at first it seems nice, and it's certainly easier, and then along comes an acronym, like FBI, and then a proper name, and so on, and before you know it I've weakened and pressed the shift key and introduced a capital letter. At that point the other letters that should have been capitalized start looking worse, like no one loved them, so I go back and capitalize some of them, and that makes the rest look even worse, so now I have to go back and fix all the capitalization, which is more work than having typed it "properly" in the first place.
My spellchecker is objecting to "chatrooms", but I'm going to let it stand.
