As a customer, not a resident as they belittle us all the time, I have every right to ask questions about the service if it's broken or not working as promised. I don't need to be crawling up their a***s to get what I want, need, deserve, whatever... A TRUE and REAL customer service stands above angry customers, and still try to solve the problem, but hey what am I talking about? I don't even own my avi or anything *I* have created in sl... Oh and one more thing: I'd like to see some qualified people at support: qualified both technically and in communication and other key skills but hey, it's just a virtual thing and not real anyway  *toddles off back into the real world* Dream on...

I do think that Ivan used very poor judgement in picking that name and he should be thankful that LL didn't just cancel his account. It doesn't matter how funny you or he thinks the name was, many people would have found it offensive. He should be grateful that they let him change the name and keep the account, otherwise he would have lost everything he had accumulated in SL.
LL owns SL and they make the rules, get used to it. You and I may not like the way they handle things but our opinion doesn't seem to matter. Colette and I have been in SL many years, long enough to have seen that community outrage over LL's behavior seems to have very little effect on them. Why should it? No matter how abysmal it gets, we keep logging on, many of you pay a lot of money in doing so. They will never wake up until people start closing their wallets and heading to the exits.

Its kind of like how they enforce Speeding in Detroit. 999 times out of 1000 you will get away with it. But that 1000th time you get a pretty heavy fine. And the Judge really doesn't care that going less than 75mph on 696 will get you crushed by the rest of rush hour traffic. |

1. LL has no clear system of rules. (Not that some people will read 'em anyways.)
2. LL does not consistently enforce/police the rules. (Which people will whine about one way or another.)
3. LL epically fails in customer service at times. (I'm on record as complaining about their support system. Jira is not user friendly either.)
4. LL's idea of communication is sketchy at best. (Blogs suck. Emailing concerns about accounts would be good.)
But darn it, SL is addictive.

Wow...I never dreamed this thread would have this many pages in less than 24 hours!!! I'd like to thank everyone for their opinions and insight on this...even the ones where I'm not sure what the poster is saying...
And, someone in a previous post made a comment to the effect of, 'why aren't they asking where to go to present this'...well, I'm asking now. Who, and where, would one go to present this case?
And, through all of this...a thought occured to me. LL is not making the money they once were, it's obvious from paid memberships being down...So...why don't they start a service, where if you want your name changed, they charge you a small fee? Figure out a way to keep everything associated with that av name and their UUID...I know of a lot of people in SL that would pay for something of this nature. And, not just name changes...there are a vast array of services they could offer to their customers...but, that's for another thread.
And...LL really needs to get their act together...There are so many companies out there, looking into, and starting their own Virtual World...one day, SL will be a distant memory...kinda like AT&T...and now look at all the cell providers out there. Coz, isn't that what it's all really about with LL? The $$$$$?

Just keep in mind that LL never, ever reveals the details of disciplinary actions and especially not the originator of the AR, if that is where it started.

That said if you want to barge in and throw accusations left and right then you might as well stay away because it just won't be productive and it ruins the hour for those who didn't come to throw a fit (there was a group of half a dozen there last week already who did that on someone's behalf and it was a wasted hour for everyone). About the only productive way to approach it would be to ask why they don't at least notify someone when their name has been changed as a result of an AR and whether or not someone can have a say in what name they end up with as a result (assuming he's unhappy with the one they picked out for him). Mentioning his particular case will just run in a stone wall of "we will not discuss a specific incident" and not yield anything productive. |

If CoH can charge 9.99 USD for a name change on a toon, then why can't LL charge 9.99 USD for an account name change? First name only, of course, as the last names are a kind of age marker... This would also help user retention, because those accounts with names that are embarassing can change them to something more paletable.

It's tough to just take your money and walk when you are in love and SL is the most efficient way to spend time with her/him. Not an option. May I suggest that SL needs a legal system? I mean a real legal system with SL courts, SL attorneys for those who need someone to speak for them, appellate courts and an ultimate supreme court consisting of the final arbitrators: Lindens. Heck, I could then sue you if I don't like your name. I could also sue the Lindens in SL court and actually have my views aired publicly. Of course, if the Lindens lose, I would be overturned on appeal......lol Shoot, we could even write an SL Constitution with an Avi Bill of Rights........I think I'm on to something here...... |
