First off i will admit to not reading every post on this thread but i got the gist of it. Now for my 2 cents worth ..
The Linden who was a 4 mth old AV, i doubt they had only been an SL member that short of a time. They alone would not of been able to freeze your account if new to the job someone would of been watching over their shoulder.
Many come to SL and make silly names thinking they will be funny ( Whory) is one that comes to mind, they soon learn that it was not such a good idea so lesson 1 think first.
Should the Lindens have sent you a message saying your name offended someone or some rules maybe but if they had to send out these notes before they stopped people doing what ever was going against the rules then time is wasted. Like RL some of the bad guys get away with things while those committing minor infringements get caught.
If LL changed the name of everyone who asked they would be doing little else, not a day goes by i don't hear someone wishing to change their name.
Another thing that was bought up, using the complaints to grief someone. Think about it someone complained about this name what was there for SL to look into? Search there is the "offending" name simple stop the person logging in so they contact the company then take action
Last thing .. If you dont like it you can always take your ball and go home. No one is forced tobe in SL you join a club in RL if something happens you dont like then you leave the club simple.If you run a place in SL and someone does something you dont agree with you ban them simple, its your right as owner. Linden Lab OWN SL its their club if you dont like their way of playing leave.

Since Kelly's apparently MIA, it looks like we'll be subjected to the trailer park duo for a while longer.

He used a triple negative; he said that there wasn't a psychiatrist in the country that would not say that we were not mentally imbalanced. Meaning that either there is one psychiatrist in the country that would say we are mentally imbalanced, and one only, or there are no psychiatrists that would say we are.

It all gets a bit confusing when he speaks; for him most of all. He is right about one thing though; I would like to hurt him in real life.

OK, at the risk of getting my arse shot off, I am going to add another 2 cents worth from the 'pro-Ivan side' as some of you have started to call anyone who doesn't agree with the party line.

Firstly yes this is probably my second post on this forum - this doesn't make me a noob or a troll or any other form of degenerate - it simply means I don't have much to say most of the time.

Some of you state that LL owns everything and it's their rules - well that of course is true, but as far as people building up their identity (both personally and brand identity) within the world, that should also give them certain rights - if someone rents a shop in a RL mall they have the right, if the mall owner decides the name of their shop is not in keeping with the tone of the place, to be told in a civil manner and at least be treated with respect rather than simply turning up for work one day and finding the locks were changed and the sign pulled down. I wonder how a company such as Coke would react if their name was suddenly changed because someone was offended by it being the street name of a drug...

And as for the behaviour shown on these forums towards anyone who deviates from the LL way of seeing things, it makes me seriously suspect a lot of people's motives. It's true there's been some slanging on both 'sides' of the fence, and that has blown everything out of perspective and detracted from the true issue, which is the one of blind censorship applied with a heavy hand.

Nobody has anything against Ivan.

Some of his supporters have just used questionable tactics, to put it mildly.

Perhaps Ivan should have thought about all of this before he became a businessman...perhaps created another av? Just thinkin'...

I don't know how hard it would be for the lindens to just let you change your name. I wish I could change my name. When I registered for this game, I had no idea there were dj's in second life. I became a dj because I got tired of the endless IM's asking me if I was looking for work.

But as far as Ivan, I have to say that just because all this time went by and you weren't asked to change it before, doesn't mean it's an acceptable name. And it's crappy the way they did you too. But you are you under any name, and I know to start over after all the progress you've made can bum you out, I don't think it's going to take that long to bounce back, and you are still Ivan, which I'm sure your friends call you anyway. You can even use this experience to promote your new self. Heck it worked for Prince. You have friends supporting you and I think that's great, so roll with the punches. Besides, for as highly as your friends speak of you, do you really want a name like Ivanerection? It's is after all, just a name.

I think some of the posts in this thread provides a basest for a legitimate AR complaint.

No, it's about context and perspective. I think I do a fair job of bashing The Providers here, to a point of it being even gratuitous. But in this case several people immediately went into hysterics when no one here wanted to share in their indignance over something that happened to someone else, even though most agreed was badly handled, they immediately went into martyr mode looking to toss the tea into the harbor. Then things went downhill.....

Ivan is the most levelheaded one here. He seems to have taken it for what it was worth, and moved on. Daresay, I'm sure his business ventures or personal reputation will not suffer. Infact, I think he got himself a little publicity in the process, which, if I were the jaded and cynical type , might suggest was the plan all along.

Ivan isn't friend, I have never met him or most of you ever anywhere else outside of the forums but still I have to agree why aren't they doing something about it at the registration page and other names that already exist if this is issue?
I actually spent the night last week looking up every name I could think of that had to do with sexual term or body part came up with lot of them some are pretty darn funny too.
Worth checking out if you find naughty name puns hilarious.

I'm no fascist...I'm very egalitarian: I'll AR anybody with an offensive name. I'd've AR'd Ivan, if I'd ever met him, and all of his aunts, uncles, and cousins with "pussy" and "cunt" and similar words in their names, too.

There must be a blue moon up tonight, because I agree with Lindal. It's not so much forcing me to write/say them as assuming that it's ok for them to be said/written in my presence. I have the same attitude about people talking in RL. I use the words myself sometimes but I don't use them in public where other people may be offended by them, and I seriously dislike people using them where they may offend some people.

Ivan's name included no words that should be an issue, unlike others in SL. It is definitely well into the sophomoric area, as is IMO the LL response. It would have been a non-event if they had done nothing and a non-event for what they did, which was a mild, if unnecessary action. Not in the same league as the famous Sony restaurant case in RL.

So I can see ARing some of the offensive names - names have a way of popping up where there is little control, such as IMs in PG groups. ARing Ivan's name would be a bit much, again IMO.

FWIW, it is also a community issue. I doubt many breeders of any type have a problem discussing an erection (hell, they're discussed on ESPN commercials), bullshit is bullshit out on the farm, as are piss ants. The terms are completely acceptable in some very conservative communities as long as you don't use them in church or at a social...
