The part I love the most is how it's being organized ... HERE!

That's Bold!

I think Linden Lab has conference rooms you guys can use when you meet with the lawyer.

Not to mention people can donate in Lindens and they can be cashed out on LL's own Linden Exchange to pay the lawyer.

I ask you, how many of you have been to an event hosted by Chilly Charlton? She hosts nice events, about as good as you could hope for in SL. Attend one of her events for yourself, hit the turtle, and I expect you'll find it well done.

To many of the naysayers, I'm appalled by the lack of respect for a member of your community. Chilly has been a gracious and generous host, she's still here with many of her sims despite the fact that there's little chance of a profit.

Owning land, building on it and managing it is quite a task requiring intelligence, devotion, and skill. I expect many of you haven't done so yourself.

LL's policies and prices changing and shifting without notice have created great difficulty for those seeking to see some return on their land. A profit is not an evil thing, many of you act as though it were, profit is a sign of work well done.

I certainly cannot condone much of LL's behavior. While I see her success in court as unlikely, I wish her the best.

Well of course .. to everyone who lost land value I sympathize. I think a lot of people do.

Most of this recent humor in this thread was directed at the fact its discussion organizing suing LL on LL's own forums. Which has its own inherent twisted irony.

I don't think that translates into most of those comments being happy Chilly lost land worth. At least I hope it doesn't

Exactly. I hate that all kinds of people feel shafted by the recent land price drop.
This was an ironic thread though and people are bound to call it out.

Ok I was gonna just read this thread but since I was drug here form a cross post on SLU I figure I will spit in my two cents worth.

This whole thing is ridiculous. Firstly, Linden Labs never promised anyone they will make money with the game. Anyone who feels otherwise is sadly mistaken. It's clearly outlined in the ToS that there is no guarantee of anything.

I understand you are all upset about land prices and other issues with the system but the bottom line is that suing the company will most likely get you laughed out of court. If you did happen to succeed, what is the point? Like someone stated prior to this post, any money you receive will be minimal at best while the lawyer who took the case is driving his new BMW to the airport to catch that Hawaiian vacation flight, and Second Life will be no more as likely the doors would be closed.

I personally am glad I make a few dollars in Second Life to keep my business going and although it's frustrating when things don't go my way I can't see any point in trying to shut the whole thing down. Then I will be making no money. No one wronged you by shutting down illegal banking ventures and illegal casino ventures. as was stated above no one wronged you by changing the price of something that is most obviously liquid by design.

Land prices rise and fall, shit happens. Why would anyone want to crawl onto a bandwagon that's headed for certain disaster? If you get your way and successfully win a lawsuit, the project will cease to exist... is that what you really want? Maybe it is. If so that's too bad that you have wrapped so much of your life around something that is not designed to be a support mechanism for your real life debts.

suing SL and LL for lowering land prices is like suing payless cause the shoes you bought yesterday are half off today.

your best bet is to start a petition to get the difference back, but i feel, imho, that the only ones entitled to scream are the ones who bought land in the last 30days before this. i point again to my analogy because price drops happen, and LL is not obligated to tell you anything regarding that.

i would think you'd be happy that those who could not afford to buy land can now do so. myself included.

PS: if anyone is still interested in sending the op 100usd or its equivalent in lindens? rethink that, as was stated several times, if the case is worthwhile, a lawyer would do it for the publicity.

I still think it would have been more fair to calculate how much money the reduced server parts would have saved them and instead of lowering SIM prices by 695$ give some sort of discount to everyone tier fees.

Or maybe a combination -

Enough to stimulate the land and Sim buying market - without heavily undercutting resale value.

-----------------------

But LL must have a marketing department of MBAs who decided it was better to do it as they did long term. I doubt they are thinking so much about current island owners as they are "the larger number of Island owners in the future" (tm)

I think LL still thinks (and maybe they are right) there is a lot of room to grow still and 200,000 concurrent users are right around the corner ..

In which case they will need a lot more landlords than they have now.

------------------------

Now if LL didn't have qualified marketing professionals help them with this decision, when millions of dollars are at stake .. then they are just stupid.

Yes, but it's not guaranteed. Plenty of people fail for valid reasons that have nothing to do with LL.

I have been fighting the urge all evening to say "please don't reproduce."

I just lost that fight.

For those of you who do not remember, let me brush you up on some SL history and the reason for Chilly Charlton's raving in this thread and on these forums.

Back when casinos were not banned, Chilly ran a very successful four sim casino, one of the largest in SL. He ran this despite it being illegal for him to do so.

So then casinos were banned, which was a very obvious move on LL's part to protect themselves and SL's economy as a whole. Chilly Charlton went ballistic, and made a forum posts threatening to sue LL. Since then, he has been a frequent troll, trying to inflame outrage over policies such as the banking ban and the recent price drops on private islands.

It's just sour grapes really. However you wish to spin it, casino owners (both in SL and RL) are leeches who take advantage of psychological flaws for personal gain. They are monetary faith healers (Insert coin, pull arm and MAKE A WISH!). Chilly found himself unable to survive once the rules changed to limit the ability of such leeches to operate.

Any sort of investment of time and money that is a business is risky, be it real life or in second life. Economics change, variables change, and the market changes. With each change you have a choice to either adapt or fail. The recent price drops will change the land market considerably; those who merely resell plots of vanilla land will have fierce competition (including by groups of consumers themselves who purchase and split a sim), and many will fail. Those who won't fail are those who add value to the land they sell or rent. or find other means of monetizing their sims. The economy as a whole will benefit from cheaper land and more competition, at the expense of people who provided inferior products.

You said it above... you CAN make money. Nowhere does it say you WILL make money. And the ToS, while you laugh, is unfortunately the legal document that binds you, the Second Life user, to the company that provides the service. You agreed to it when you joined and that's how it is. Nowhere in that document does it state you are entitled to anything except the copyright on your content, which you give them the rights to use, delete, copy as they see fit.

The above statement pretty much sums up the rest. regardless of the ToS or any other argument, no where can I find a document or other piece of media where it tells me I am entitled to a given price on land, lindens or otherwise. So the argument, in it's entirety, is a null issue.

as Bambee put it, you can make money, no guarantee you will. i seen businesses fail in world for something as simple as poor customer service, bad locations and trigger happy proprietors. so while LL is pushing the you can make money angle, there is no guarantee you will, unless you are willing to put in the work.
