Do you prefer the official fora or other unofficial fora?

I have not posted much in this thread but I would like to say I really like over there and I still really like here too.

There are many really nice people who are here and don't go over there though and that is one of the reasons I return again and again. Another reason is that the technical forums here are excellent and there is a history of wealth in the archives that the other place could not possibly have.

However I am concerned by the state of things here and where things are going. Some of the things that are allowed to happen here are far more serious than some of the stuff that gets moderated and that in my opinon is skewed. You just don't know when the moderation is going to come down on you and for what in some cases. Reported posts don't seem to be acted upon and are not acknowledged as even been looked at.
I also don't like the policy of an inworld ban if you get a ban here, I know that if you play nice it probably will not happen, but it could and that in itself does not sit well with me.

So far over there there has been a good consistency of policy that I have observed at least. I am relatively new over there still and maybe have missed the major injustices, forumquakes etc. and I can only go by my experiences but so far it *feels* like there is less uncertainty. I know I feel much better knowing a ban there is just a ban there.
General discussion has its own forum and is encouraged rather than done illicitly with the knowledge that is really isn't playing by the rules and could be stymied at any time. General discussion is an important forum ability in my opinion.

The forum software here definitely needs changing to something better, even the search is very funky.
Many of the people over here are also over there which is wonderful

I have more r less abandoned the official forums here in favour of "the one over the street", for many different reasons. The main reason being that I have found the people there to be most welcoming, friendly and supportive. Agreed that I am also generally polite, friendly and non-trollish.

Which basically sums up the situation quite simply - if you join a forum you get back what you give to it. Act like a fool and you'll be treated like you are one. Act friendly and people will be friendly in return. There's no need to belong to any secret clique (I certainly am part of no such thing) and yet I've been made to feel very welcome there.

Every forum has it's own feel and atmosphere. Yes the other one has more off-topic content but no-one forces you to read the off-topic forum if you don't want to (I avoid without fail the Politics one and will continue to avoid it at least until the US election is over).

I wonder how many people that have had a negative experience of any forum, have done so because they entered with a negative attitude.

In my very first SLU posting, I made a boo-boo in location and tone with my post, and the ONLY person of the fifteen or so who replied/pointed this out/kneed me a bit for it, who actually was flat out rude and mean...and to top it off *completely* wrong about what she said...was Brianna. Needless to say I stuck with SLU anyhow, and managed to avoid her (except once, I think).

Later on I asked her SL partner in a SLU thread about "what it was that made them tick" because both of them seemingly were doing things in SL (such as being partnered as two women) that indicated they should be more liberal about other people's personal choices and preferences, but they weren't. I was seriously asking...I couldn't understand why the "do as I say, not as I do" routine...

Long story short, it was in that thread that Brianna's partner originally got banned from SLU for repeatedly (over time) accusing (a RL nurse) of being pro-abortion (and had to many others as well) as opposed to pro-choice. Insisting they were basically, bad bad people...out to kill babies...that kinda thinking (my wording tho).

Heh. Maybe our problem at SLU is that we actually do talk about things that matter. More than once. In fact, a lot.

So if there *were* an agree button here, I'd smash that sucker in on what you are saying. She was mean to me, right out of the shoot. And I never did forget that, although I've forgotten a million snarky remarks others have made...

Seems I felt the intent was very different in Bri's case. I guess it's not just me.

I would LOVE to find an active mail list for SL residents. I'm just old-school I guess, and totally agree with this. But the only mail list I ever found gets only 1 post a month and that's just a reminder notice of how to post. I live in hope that someone else ever reads the darn thing.

If anyone else knows of an active SL mailing list please let me know?

well i appreciate someone understanding my perspective, and i'm sorry you got off on the wrong foot and were treated cruelly.

i want to be clear that i'm not keen on going on some "let's bash Briana" tangent now... i don't like that gang-attack approach. it's very nasty and unnecessary. so please don't misunderstand my intention... i just want her to shut up about someone else's private lovefest already. it's none of her business anyway, and i feel it's just revenege for being rejected (which sucks when it happens to ANYONE)...

bullys bully because they were bullied. it's a viscious cycle. i'd like to see her break the cycle and reform. i'm open minded. but it's not up to me, and i don't intend to become part of the problem.

i sincerely hope things have worked out for you 'over there' by now, Randoym, since many peeps seem to think it's a delightful experience.

This was my forum home, it was a big part of my SL community, when it closed i felt ( and still feel) that i lost a great part of my SL i rarely post here anymore..well because there doesn't seem to be much point but i have never found, and doubt i ever will find anyplace that i felt as comfortable

In fact, i see on post #4 you make the first comment AT someone because they told you about your post, and i see that i used your same tactic against you.

You really have a different perspective on things.

From what it looks like, everyone jumped you, and one person asked you if you were insulting them for posting the remark you made at them regarding their signature which is the exact same post i made to you in return.

Why are you coming in here, singling me out, and not being truthful about the issue.

The thread is there for all to read and it goes nothing like you claimed. You were jumped for coming there and as someone else said 'making your first post in a forum and advertisement and in the wrong section'.
