I quit buying all together except for small stuff here and there. I spend only what I bring in, no buying lindens etc. I support people I like.. no just running to get something new to have it.

I lost the SL thrill though. I am too unsure about where SL is going.. will it be PG, will it be about businesses, etc etc. LL focused on corps so long and ignored the userbase that I got jaded. Recently when I discovered putting my own sims on my PC and building all I wanted I saw excitement again.

I won't say don't buy.. everyone needs to make that choice. When you think in terms of an outfit costing a few cents in most cases it can be a cheap way to have some fun. :) When the changes come down the road will it mean you didn't get that worth from the stuff with the fun you had? Depends on how much you spend of course.

I dunno.. sorry for taking this off track. I say glitch pants should be mod dammit!

And as for OpenSim and the like.. it is young but growing and progressing fast. What LL does to meet the superior meshes, etc is their guess at this point. I just know if I was in charge I would see the work or RealXTend and say.. hey, they already made what we can use and grab it. That is part of the advantage of RealXTend and OpenSim being totally open source. LL can cherry pick whatever they like.
No, I appreciate the info - its not like I don't have many outfits. In reality I expect I will buy what little I can get away with but designers would be aware that urging a new mesh may not be a good thing for their business. If people like me think breaking changes are coming then they may not buy as much until the fall out has happened. Yes each outfit is pennies but I assure you the collective cost of purchase of my inventory is not insignificant.
I am sorry SL is this way for you Mac, I still find much pleasure from it I am happy to say. It just makes me want to be cautious about this kind of purchase.
On the subject of pants - there is no good reason why basic Linden style clothing cannot be mod and it is even more important that prim parts are. I am a small av and prim things rarely fit - those scripted resizers are just not a good substitute for the edit tools and mod.

If designers cannot or are unwilling to do such a simple thing then they have to be prepared that custom may go elsewhere.

Yep, totally agree with you.

Some clothes items need tweaks to look just right and no mod will not help that. If I were more into SL and selling I would put options out in perms. It would require vendors to save prim space.

And as for SL.. it has been a up and down thing for me since 2006. I still love the people and ever so often I get a wow moment when seeing a new build. I don't write it off.. it just has so much more potential then LL is allowing for it. They became tunnelvisioned about corps. M may change that, though his last blog post sets him up to be Philip and Mitch's love child. :D

I will get my thousandth wind.. it always comes along lol.

I have two shapes I use (I found a free shape I liked first week or so in SL and have used it since). One I wear with pants and the other I tweaked the butt so it looks better with dresses. I heard that tip somewhere and it works really well for me. :)

My shape is personal to me, so I do not change it for anyone other than to suit myself. I do not change it for clothes. I will take the bigger ass or not wear system skirts at all because it is just that personal to me. But that's just me.

I am exactly the same, you are not the only one.

One reason is they want to offer the same outfit in 10 different colors and they want to prevent people from just buying the white (or near white) version and tinting the outfit themselves.

I have a pale yellow or off white dress and a white dress in my store, they are the same dresses, HOWEVER trying to get the off white, or pale yellow shade that I created in PS within the SL appearance mode is not happening (I tried a few times to match it) this is why I sell a pale yellow version and a white (mod) version and yes the white mod version IS higher in price.
If you apply black to this dress all the details are lost! So black is a color I would buy on its own.... (but do not offer it in black right now, not sure I will its to pretty in clean crisp colors)

I try to offer all the clothes in mod because I know how upset I get over an outfit I get and can't make pants into shorts or pants to big at bottom and stick out my boots....

Im still working out hte best way to offer and I believe no matter what I offer its not going to please everyone..... ;/

If i buy a dress in RL i can take scissors to it if i like, please dont deny me mod on these things.

If it were possible to restrict such things i`m sure many designers who work with real life clothing would do just that.

Check out realxtend.org

They have done some cool stuff for avatar meshes. The OpenSim project will be using some of the features. LL will eventually have to upgrade the meshes just to look relevant to the technology that is bypassing them at a fierce rate.

Yes, it will be a major change and lots of very upset people.. but they will do what they think they have to for that shiny new era they see coming. Killer apps have to evolve and appearances are a major part of a social platform.

I am not arguing a should change or shouldn't change. But since meshes are on topic I thought the link above was relevant.
Thanks for the link, Mac. This is very interesting. I came to SL from being a Sims 2 custom creator so this looks great to me.

I don't think I'm the only one who would switch pretty quickly if an SL rival came along with better avatars.

I played around some last night with a standalone from there. I found it very lacking in setting it up for networking between my PCs, but the avatar was awesome. I was amazed at the one prim 3-D objects just out of the box. A teddy bear that would hog about 20 or so prims was just one. A little odd to get used to.. but I totally see it as the next thing.

Keep an eye on OpenSim. It is going places. :)

Maybe I didn't explain that well. :)

I only have one shape that is also personal to me mainly because (1) I've spent a year tweaking it to my current liking and (2) it works perfectly with my skin.

So I don't have 2 shapes per se...just one shape with the butt set differently if I'm wearing pants or skirts. The rest of the shape is exactly the same.

But with everything...different strokes :)
