This implies that your comments are to be taken in a different manner (given more credence maybe) than if you were a member of said group.

"Taken in a different manner": That's correct--I was pointing out that my observations couldn't be characterized as defensiveness, since I'm not a member of the clique being discussed.

(Seriously, you were offended by that?)

Nope, not offended, just questioned the full meaning of it.

However, I think a few of the members of the inworld group might be a bit offended that you or someone associate the members of the inworld group with a so-called clique here on the forums. There are members of the group that practically never come to the forums, or at least to the RA part.

I think it is bad enough to continue to perpetuate the 'clique' concept, but even worse to assume that the inworld group is a clique also, just because it was originally started by some very active forum posters.

Hell, if that group was a clique, me now being part owner of said clique, should get a lot more of what I want there - fat chance on that.

Granted, the inworld group and the group of posters being referred to aren't identical. As far as defining clique is concerned: that's probably a whole thread on its own!

It's not too late. I'm sure you can show up in court, in the halloween costume you wore to the Cartel party. In support of the defense, to be sure, to show that he has the support of rational Coloradoans........ :p

Should forum members be allow to quote other members with words they never actually wrote in a post and then justify it by saying they also wrote "fixed it" below the quote?

It’s not common at all. I have never come across it before and felt insulted when I saw it.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=FIFY

The phrase, "fixed it for ya" is so common that urban dictionary only makes note of the (also common) abbreviation of it, FIFY.

Re: Fixed it for ya
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=FIFY

The phrase, "fixed it for ya" is so common that urban dictionary only makes note of the (also common) abbreviation of it, FIFY.

In addition to Urban Dictionary the following places list FIFY as a forum related acronym:

http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/FIFY

http://content.penturners.org/articles/2009/Acronyms.pdf

http://blogoscoped.com/forum/65326.html

From: the above link
FIFY
Fixed it for ya.
This is used when you edit someone's post to make them look bad.
Example:
This is used when you kick someone in the ass to make them feel bad.
(fify)

This post from September of 2008 covers it nicely:
"FIFY = fixed it for you (somebody clicked edit and changed somebody's original post to fit their needs)"
at the url http://forums.5atexasfootball.com/showpost.php?p=881377&postcount=47

The forum at this url includes it in their list of acronyms, initialisms, abbreviations, shorthand, jargon and such.
http://www.forums.woodnet.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=3002349&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=7&o=

This forum has an explanation "FIFY: acronym used in message boards, meaning "Fixed it for ya". Most often used in quoting another posters work and slightly changing it. " at http://www.masscops.com/forums/452248-post29.html

The usage of this initialism and the behavior it refers to is widespread.

In this forum, in my observation, it's most often used to make a joke.

It can be used to make someone's post look stupid, and one of course doesn't particularly enjoy having words they thought made sense be made to seem senseless, but it's the insult that's offensive, not the means used to make the insult.
