Why do i have a feeling that this whole conversation is messed up and the thing that many women here would find stimulating would be strangling Conan. :p

Conan - come on, man, admit it. You're constantly saying things that women would find offensive. They may not be overtly misogynistic, but they sure do indicate a deep-seated contempt towards women. I have a feeling you do it for the shock value and because you get a rise out of the women here.

I'm not giving you any grief here. When you aren't being offensive, you often make a lot of sense. You can be who you want, but you are going to be judged by your words here and everywhere else in life whether you like it or not.

Good luck with this argument you're having. 3Ring is a pain in the ass in an argument. She'll wear you down and she won't give an inch. I'm glad I don't have to deal with her in any of the more confrontational aspects of my job.

Deep-seated contempt is a bit strong. We simply don't share interests and therefore their conversation is simply not part of my world.

But, as the saying goes; arguing on the internet is like competeing in the special olympics - it doesn't matter whether you win or lose, you're still a retard.

Alright. I withdraw "deep-seated contempt" and apologize. i can admit when I'm wrong. It's just general, run-of-the-mill contempt.

It's more apathetic disinterest than contempt. Contempt implies some sort of malice.

When you meet people in SL or on the forums, do you judge them right away, or do you wait to get to know them?

I've always waited till I talked with them for a while. Didnt matter if they were Furry, Mechanical or Human.

lol - you'll do fine. I take a bit less of a pit bull approach in practice, so it might not be a good fit, but I certainly admire your tenacity. I'm in the process of breaking away from my current job and hanging up my own shingle as we speak. Scary.

WOOT! good luck.

and, i was kidding. while standing in a court room before the likes of OJ Simpson and beating him down to confession sounds awfully romantic, it's not my calling...

i am currently unemployed, but that's by choice and not related any more than coincidental.

Best of luck, Trout. You have such a gift of common sense, combined with eloquence and good humor you should find success at whatever you attempt. I sincerely hope you find the soul fulfillment that you mentioned has been so lacking in your current work situation.

:)

Would you say that it was active apathetic disinterest or passive apathetic disinterest?

Hey everyone :)

I don't post often, but this one caught my eye and I just had to add to the discussion. As it really pertains to how I have felt lately about SL.

I am probably one of the least judgemental people around, I really do my best to not prejudge people and get to know them a bit before I make my mind up about them. Sometimes, actually about 90% of the time, I am successful. But lately, I have been finding myself judging people based upon their av's appearance more and more.

My only possible thought about the reason behind this, is the fact that I have been treated that way by a certain demographic here within Second Life.

Yes, I freely admit, my avatars appearance may be a bit 'out there' compared to most peoples standards. I am a demon pretty much all the time, who is highly femme looking, and dresses rather "skimpy" as I have been told. Most of the time I am wearing bondage outfits from Graves, or either my armor from Dark Eden.

Many many times, I have been approached by these male residents, who's arms are bigger than their heads, and their waists are smaller than mine, and almost every time, have to make some quip about how girly I am, and I need to go throw myself off a bridge and get out of their space.

Even just last night, I was hanging out with a friend, when one of her friends, who fits the above stereotype, came over. Once he found out that I was not a girl, he was so completely upset about my existance, that he left without a word. Except the remarks about it to my friend in IM thereafter.

After a while, it's started to just put me off to the whole thing about taking people "as they are" instead of "how they look" because of this exact thing.

And I know, there are exceptions for every group, but I can't help but wonder, am I the one who is wrong?

I usually judge them by their profile, I mean that's why it's there. People try and reflect their interests inhow they choose groups inworld. And their picks and such, there's little point even considering their avatar. I myself get bored of being human quite often, and have days where I choose to look scary just to keep people from talking to me.

Guess I have to say appearance first. Meaning there was this person looking at some art he startled me with his cloak and mask BUT then I said hello and we talked. Seemed friendly enough :)

So yup I guess do appearance first but it is usually fleeting.

Bec

A neighbor of mine was this huge lizard devil type thing. He scared the hell out of me whe he came up and said hello to me one day long ago, lol. He turned out to be a good person and friend though.

Now I'm use to crazy looking avatars and all kinds of different looking people. I find myself looking past all of it and just getting to know the person inside. Besides my graphic card sucks and I can barely make out what people are wearing half the time anyway.:p
