yea why use their server when you can run your own.

I run the sl server on a linux box on the network so I can own as many sims as i want :) then just login to main server when I want. great for testing stuff out.

Screw those open sims and stuff just download the sl server yourself, many on torrents as well and run it on your own system and own as much land/prims you want rofl.

good for having your own private test server

Same alphabet, just selective quoting of letters and spaces.

Pep (Childish eh?)
The difference is that in your case it's true whereas in my case it's just your wishful thinking.

If you delve into the history of the English languge, you'll see that most of what today looks like irregularities can actually be explained-for example all those "weird" pronunciation exceptions. English is far more regular than most people think. I find German perfectly boring. No foreign influences to the extent of what English experienced. For pronunciation purposes, I prefer Welsh or Latin. Both easy to pronounce because there are very strict rules. Or Old English.

Btw, SPQR is usually considered the earliest acronym ever. Discuss.
Alyx, you are SO winning this thread.

Nothing to discuss. "SPQR" is obviously an initialism not an acronym, since it means nothing as a word, in Latin, nor in a linguistic crossover, in English.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

So you judge the worth of words as inverse to the number of syllables? An interesting evaluation method.
Not me. History. Or prehaps Zipf's law been replaced by that other power law, "90% of everything is crap," now that sci-fi writers are the ultimate authorities on everything.
From: someone
And you obviously failed to comprehend the "nice" comment, which alluded to the distinction which *has* a significance, although your devotion to minimalisation might want to simplify things further. Perhaps you would like English converted into a finite set vocabulary like computing languages?
It's hard to see in the background, but that's a Rosenquist in my Profile pic, not an Agnes Martin. As to "the subtle original meaning of the word 'nice'," I'm still not sure which original meaning you intended, "silly" or "slutty."

Oh, I misunderstood that you were at Cambridge, which would seem an existence proof of that descent (at the very least ;) ).

Note that the website's example is defective;it's missing several slashes.

The site's url is not impressive, a subdomain of free.fr.

So am i right in thinking you've given them your sl name and passwords? or did you have to create another one?

LOL

I was reading this thread from the start, then I noticed some low life loser push his/her intellect on to another person and the thread went to hell. Some of this person's posts had to literally take hours to type and research. Impressive! Not a lot of people can sit here and argue over stupid things and waste countless hours on a single post just to prove some erelevant point (or do they??). My comment will probably be trolled to death but I wont know it.

Happy holidays.

Were you under the influence of something when you typed this? It makes very little sense. As an example, Zipf's Law says nothing about the worth of words, merely offering an observation of a statistical analysis of their frequency. Visual allegories as exemplified by minor transatlantic "artists" don't appear terribly relevant to the verbal argument at hand, either. As far as "nice" is concerned, try looking up the Latin root, which sums up your cohort's erroneous attitude.

Hey! A whole sentence you managed to type correctly without having to edit it!

I sometimes do type sentences without errors - not often, but it does happen.

I would also throw in the odd comma, but grammar doesn't have many hard and fast rules, as I'm sure you know. If you don't know, then consider yourself taught ;)

"Worth"? Of course it makes no sense if one mistakes linguistics to be a prescriptive pursuit. Personally, I'm of the Humpty Dumpty school. Nonetheless, we're debating the merits of word length--where the very words in question describe how whole noun phrases are shortened to single tokens.

It's comparing the virtues of leeward and windward whistling.

That's because it obviously wasn't an allegory; it was a dig at "minimalisation"--another instance of syllable surplus except in relation to Minimalism.

I've lost track: Which distinction was being termed "nice", this thread having several to which it would be apt: TIN- vs TAN-something-or-other? Or perhaps "acronym" vs "initialism?"

So, yeah, if "nice" was a punning ironic confession, then cleverly subtle indeed.
