The money didn't come through - that's why I didn't give you a receipt - and you didn't ask for one! Now, are you going to pay me or not???

I did pay you. And besides, if I didn't, then why are you arguing with me, if I haven't paid, hmmmm?

LOL, it was a joke. You know, grumpy old man who can't accept change? ;)

Curious: is "laser" an acronym or not? I'm guessing you will say no.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of this question.

Course it is. Stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Historically it IS an acronym. If you only look at current English usage, you *could* argue because most people now just accept it as a lexeme ("word";), it has changed its status.

yea why use their server when you can run your own.

I run the sl server on a linux box on the network so I can own as many sims as i want :) then just login to main server when I want. great for testing stuff out.

Screw those open sims and stuff just download the sl server yourself, many on torrents as well and run it on your own system and own as much land/prims you want rofl.

good for having your own private test server

From what I know, they have not released the server code yet into the wild. Betting somebody has renamed some files to make it look like it's from LL. or it's realxt(meh) renamed too.

Hey, you got something right! My kids call me GOD, and I will leave the derivation of *that* acronym as a (pretty simple) challenge for you.

From: Love Hastings
who can't accept change? ;)
How wrong can you be? My career has been a perpetual battle to bring illumination to those who are stuck in the darkness, usually because they have stuck their heads in the sand or someone even darker and smellier. I *manage* change, rather than merely observe it or allow it to happen, as several of the commentators here seem happy to do in their faux-intellectual indolence. I suppose the enjoyment I get out of my paid employment carries over here, where the success of my behavioural modification strategies repays me in satisfaction, rather than in a pecuniary fashion. In another thread the WhingeBot complains that he does not consider pointing out errors as educational; anyone who reads this thread will, I reckon, think twice before they use the word "acronym" from now on - whether they get it right or not - which I consider a success.

"Laser" has evolved. The OED definition reflects the sloppiness of its popular use. "Laser" became an adjectival acronym for a process, and should really be teamed with a noun ("laser device", "laser beam", "laser printer";) but that sort of foreshortening reflects general human laziness. That is not a value judgment, by the way, but an observation.

Pep (A more interesting question would have involved "phaser" - or would you expect it to be spelled "faser"?)

I think it would be a lost cause anyway; at best, you'd be accused of being "on something", as with Qie.

“Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.” Ironically appropriate, being another Heinlein quote. ;)
For some reason your hick attitude reminds me of that of someone whose thought processes were formed by the kids' books that have aspirations to "American Literature" (surely the shortest academic course in the civilised world) as written by that guy who *did* use ain't as a matter of course.

You're probably right. The first thought will be to write the word "acronym", and the second thought will be to remember how it will confuse the hell out of Pep ;)

Confused? Hardly! Apparently I am "comfortable with ambiguity" according to psychometric testing, so I just consign those who don't understand the correct usage to my list of those whose arguments are to be deprecated.

Pep (along with those who confuse "its" and "it's", inter alia)

Oh I think you're confused, Pep. You just don't recognise it, but everyone else seems to.
Everyone? Again, it seems *you* are the one with a defective view of reality.

Pep (Try reading from the start of the thread; you might learn something)

Edited just to point out yet again that Phil can't seem to write two sentences without having to correct an error or changing his mind.

OK, so at what point did it become an acronym? When it first appeared in a dictionary as a word?

BTW, by now going after American literature here and American culture in that other thread, on an server housed in the US, whose readership is on average American, you are now by *any* definition trolling.

Now, I'm gonna finish drinking this Pepsi. I need caffeine to function.
