You can get a copy of my free security for your airspace from XStreetSL. Making the airspace more treacherous for fliers everywhere! And it's open source too, so help to make it even more trespasser-proof.

But not the kind of privacy many people believe they afford. That kind of privacy (to not be spied upon) is illusory when using security devices. Argent's JIRA suggestion would afford that kind of privacy and negate the misguided use of security devices for that purpose, but, like many interesting ideas that have merit, it has been ignored by Linden Lab.
That's true, and it's why I always prefixed the word "privacy" with "a measure of" in this thread.

I haven't read Argent's jira, but anything that provides actual privacy is good by me.

Then you haven't understood what's been written here. Those people who want some privacy, have some privacy, and those who aren't bothered, aren't bothered. Sorry you wasted your time.

Those who want privacy can use my free system (or others that cost L$). Those that aren't bothered aren't bothered.

Hank, with all due respect, if you're actually releasing this system, you're an idiot.
I don't know if he's released it, but he's certainly got it up and running in his shop at the moment, thus making it impossible to enter the place. Seems rather an odd approach to running a shop, but there you go.

Oh, forgot I had it running. Course, I wouldn't want virtual people sitting on my virtual furniture, LOL, even if it is just a simple cube. It's off.

Melita, You need this. I didn't want to say anything, but earlier on I was near the changing rooms and this hot air balloon came swooping down out of nowhere piloted by an innocent looking adorable ferret. Well the next thing you know the balloon must have gotten caught in and under-draft and the basket went swooping through all the dressing rooms and back up into the air filled with a bunch of screaming naked traumatized newbies with an equally traumatized ferret pilot screaming "I didn't meant to! It wasn't my fault!"

I couldn't quite make out the ferret's name but it was something like Sergeant Bonebutter or something similar.....

It's no different than the other systems out there, just easier to get a hold of. Besides, the only way to get LL to care about stopping these types of systems is for them to be enough of a problem.
I think you have too much faith in them.

You are mistaken. It's privately owned.
The only land that's privately owned in SL is a complete private estate. All other land has restrictions on use.

I've given up flying around anymore anyways. With physics changing, my balloon quit working, and when it did I couldn't get very far without getting ejected from my vehicle, being sent home...and rinsing and repeating that over and over got a little too tiresome to continue.

It's actually Gigs Taggart's JIRA.

The only land that's privately owned in SL is a complete private estate. All other land has restrictions on use.
Restrictions on use don't mean it's not privately owned. There are restrictions on the use of private islands too.

An RL analogy would be that I privately own my house, but there are restrictions on what I can do with it - buuilding restrictions, for instance. LL places no restrictions on a landowner's use of the airspace above, other than the same restrictions that apply on the ground. BUT the landowner *can* make restrictions on what other people do in that airspace. It's designed into the system and is, therefore, intentional.

Hence why the ban lines don't go up to infinity height? The airspace is open for vehicles (someone sitting on a prim) to freely pass through. They designed it so that people could use the airspace without someone ticking an option that prevented it.

But of course the LSL scripting features of SL also allow you to llTeleportHome an avatar at will if they are over your land, but just like any kind of tool it can be abused. This is what security scripts, like mine, do. They unfairly target people who use vehicles on the mainland.

Of course there are griefers, and they should be dealt with. But with many security systems they also attack the innocents as well.

I always thought (normal) ban lines go to 50m so that avatars can still fly through a sim in case a huge area is banlined.

Avatars, not vehicles, so much.

Some people put skyboxes at 100 meters on the mainland so it seems flying over mainland is always dicey.

I don't doubt that you are correct in the reason why banlines don't go up very far, but I disagree with the conclusions that you draw from it; i.e. that the airspace above is a shared resource, that it is public airspace, and that the owners are wrong to use security devices in it.

I don't remember the exact height, but security systems allow you to just teleport/eject/push people out of the parcel even if they just are flying over or on a vehicle.

Take the situation where you goto a sim that doesn't allow PTP teleportation. You gotta fly to your destination, but everyone in the sim has a security device running that sends you home. Your client crashes...you're frustrated. What a fun SL experience all because someone is so paranoid, so against community, and too CHEAP to buy their own island they gotta cause trouble for everyone else.

I just flew up to 4096m on my own land (mind you, never left it), and I was getting messages from a hipposecurity system telling me I had 10 seconds to vacate because I was trespassing. Ummm, the little box at the top of the screen says I'm on my land asshat. Not that they would have been able to do anything to me, I was over my land. If I was in a vehicle, or if I had just strayed 0.1m over...BOOM...I would be punished, ejected, pushed, and my client crashed (yes; I even had a complaint from someone who was coming onto my land to get a Universal Translator...they got teleported home, and their client crashed).
