From: Hank Ramos So let me get this straight while I upgrade my free security system about what landowners want and can do in SL under TOS.. 1. They want protection between 0m and 4096sq, to keep everyone out potentially. 2. They want the ability, but not required, to specify altitudes that would allow free flight 3. They want a "toll feature" that would threaten to teleport someone home unless they pay a L$ fee to pass at any altitude. Otherwise, they'll have to go around if they are able to get out in time. 4. The default courtesy time will be set to 15 seconds, because that's enough time for everyone to make course corrections. The time can be configured between 0 seconds to infinity seconds depending on the whims of the land owner. 5. Warnings would be given, though if the land owner sets the value less than 1 second, the user might not get the warning. 6. The option to flash advertisement to people who pass over you land, or make them pay a fee to not get an advertisement, or just force them home for not paying. I could even add in the ability for people to buy mainland flight passes, and then pay people who's land they pass over part of the revenue. It'll be a great money maker! Actually this would be a wonderful business model and revenue sharing scheme. Blanket the entire mainland grid with these things, and land owners could be making money off their airspace. Many land owners would sign on because it would be free to purchase, and they would get L$ in return from the mainland free-flight passes that would need to be purchased to allow free flight or vehicle travel on the mainland Awesome idea. Thanks guys! Land owner's rights rule! If you can add a feature so that landowners can put a tractor beam on innocent passers-by, whether they are in a vehicle or not, so that it drags them onto the parcel and holds them there until they pay up, your security device will be perfect.

From: Mickey Vandeverre I don't mind. It doesn't hurt me, if I'm not there - and rarely there. Someone should have some fun with it.
I check my visitor list every day and it appears a couple is using it every night for "something." If I'm sleeping soundly in RL, and don't have a clue....what harm does that do? It can't do any harm. In fact it could do some good. Let me have an SLURL and the times they are there, and I'll sell tickets to voyeurs

Nobody is innocent, as you have alluded to, there are only trespassers. We couldn't do more than just teleport home or eject, anything else would be harassemnt. We would just give them a landmark on where to purchase a free-flight mainland pass, with a commission given to the land owner that gave them the landmark. We'd then teleport them home (sans vehicle, oops sorry you lost that no-copy vehicle...your fault!) for having the audacity to fly over our land. Then if they bought the pass, then they'd have free flight rights over the entire mainland, with each plot they fly over getting a share of their flight pass. Land owners would earn L$ by basically "renting" out THEIR airspace to resident of SL. Would a price of L$50 per day, or L$500 per month sound like a reasonable charge to levy against the residents of SL?

In the past, if I have arrived home, and caught someone in the act....I just stand at the foot of the bed, and say...."Having Fun?" It leads to some interesting conversations. Lately...I just walk away, and go back to the store....and leave them be. You're welcome to join in with them...actually, probably during your time frame, since it's night time for me. I checked their profiles to see if they were hot....but they don't have pics posted. Have Fun!

Could this thread quietly disappear now? I think everyone has made their feelings more than clear and nothing useful's going to come out of this discussion. It's just turned into pointless banter back and forth.

From: Milla Janick You should charge them to use your place if they're too cheap to get their own. It doesn't cost me anything to let them use it. Not like I have to send a maid in to change the linens or scrub the tub. I don't see any liquor missing from the bar, and I'll never know if they piss in the pool.

I have an avatar magnet that does that. You could put it, and the security scripts inside a tentacle monster.

From: Milla Janick On the contrary, it's become quite amusing. Perhaps, but pointless. I don't see the use of keeping a thread like this alive any longer. If I could lock it, I would. To everyone who posted in this thread (which has gone way off-topic by the way): please agree to disagree and see you're not going to achieve a consensus.

Quite a few threads are like that. There won't be a consensus on this one - guaranteed. Did you decide to get a security thingy? Or live on the edge?

To everyone who posted in this thread (which has gone way off-topic by the way): please agree to disagree and see you're not going to achieve a consensus. It's quite common, Anya. The OP gets all the answers up front and then people go off on sidetracks. You may think the sidetrack has been pointless but I promise you it hasn't. I've certainly learned from it and maybe others have too. If I use my security device, which I haven't done in a long time, I'll set a longer warning period than it's set at right now. Maybe I won't be the only to change something as a result of this interesting thread.

Maybe I'm too used to the strict organisation of some other forums I've frequented, but I find this discussion totally useless now. It's like someone yelling 'yes' and someone else 'no' back and forth, over and over again. It's unproductive and it clogs up the forum for other, more recent threads that are bound to be more useful. And since I originally posted it I feel it's my responsibility. If someone with mod powers sees this thread, please close it.

If you really want it locked, you can IM the moderator and she'll lock but, imo, that would not be a nice or good thing to do, and completely unnecessary. It's not as though the thread has dropped into the flaming level. It's been a perfectly good, and productive, discussion. To be honest, I don't know what you're bothered about. It's not as though it's your personal thread, or you're getting a bad rep for it, or anything like that. A thread's starter doesn't have to maintain an interest in it.

And I don't remember a requirement making you read this thread. Honestly, I have never understood why people want threads shut down other than a heavy handed attack towards silencing others.

I don't see why you insist on keeping this thread going when everything has been argued to death already. I'm going to ask a moderator to close it, or we'll be here by 2010 still. And no this is not about 'silencing' anyone, and there's no winner here.
