True. It did happen alot last year. Otherwise ordinary people got so frustrated by the hands-off attitude of the Mainland Estate Manager toward the cutting going on next to them, that they cut their mainland into 16s as well and fled to the private estates or from SL completely. And they found they could sell their mainland quite easily at 4-5L per m within a few hours by doing this.

It had to stop and it has.

Yes the cutting has stopped for the most part, but not completely. Most new commercial land cuts have been dealt with fairly promptly by LL. Though a recent cut was in place for about 2 weeks and only disappeared yesterday after several AR s were filed. One encouraging sign at this cut was that none of the usual extortionist suspects moved in to ply their trade. So it seems the business model for small plot extortion has been curtailed and that is very good. We are still left holding the bag though. Thousands of extortion plots are still in place, and while some of the the microbarons have symbolically dumped a few of their plots, the most extreme cases haven't budged. LL says they are in conversation with these good citizens and that progress is being made. Ok. I'm still waiting.

Waiting eagerly.

FWIW, I think once LL finally does what it has to do to clean up the mess left behind by the adfarmer/extortionists, Dave's and Weedy's lives will be markedly improved.

Those of us who have been in the trenches know very well who's the enemy and who's not, but consider the plight of a landowner confronted by a blight of randomly terror-formed microparcels, somewhere in the midst of which is a BBH parcel. Even with all the "will swap for fun" notices on the parcel and profiles, it's just going to happen that some IMs will be less than civil. (Just try dealing with {name elided}, {name elided}, and {name elided}, and soon enough civility will become a virtue quite dear.)

Yeah, I know that isn't what happened in this instance, and yeah, Godot has nothing on LL in posing the halting problem to its customers. I'm just saying that some relief may be ahead.

Me as well. Is going to take a while for the existing mainland to heal. Upto 2 years maybe for some sims. For others hardly no time at all.

The new AO continent going to affect micro-parcel owners because alot of people are going to move to the AO for all the obvious reasons but also to get away from the microparcels themselves. A free move makes this attractive to a lot of people in this situation who maybe would not have considered this for any other reason.

A consequence of AO is that there is going to be alot more M land available to Land Linden to bank from the swaps. And people wanting old M mainland are going to be spoilt for choice for quite some time. 200 something sims worth of M mainland is going to be in the bank within the next few montIhs. More even probably by Xmas.

People wanting M mainland are not going to have any reason to buy any land on a cut sim because of the amount of land that will be available to them. So the microparcel owners going to be increasingly stuck with them. Lots of the smaller microparcels owners who got it into just for a laugh are going to abandon them to either the Governor or the bots. $25 tier a month is $25 better spent on something else. Is not all bad that someof it will goto the bots in that consolidation of existing microparcels into fewer private hands makes the problem easier to deal with from a governance perspective.

Lessons learned thus far,

Don't stand in the middle of a building site when the bulldozers arrive, you end up in the corner wearing a pointy hat.

Doughnuts can be bad for your health.

Mute function seems to be working fine.

One step at a time Mainland is getting cleaner. (one way or another) :D

Some people have long enough lunch breaks to read all this.

Does this particular "special" 16m plot have a gold mine in it? Is it spitting out 100,000L an hour into it's owner's account due to some programming glitch? Or is this the SecondLife production of "Much Ado About Nothing?" I've walked into?
