From: Gabriele Graves What Colette wrote has no bearing on my reposnse to Marcel's post. My response was only to Marcel's post.
Its even more than that though, because they make their businesses part of the discussion. Phil often even in a mocking way. Marcel usually more analytically. Its obvious neither sees anything wrong with it or they wouldn't ask others about their business. Others who do NOT interject their business into the conversation. ------------------- My business comes up sometimes .. when people are actually talking about my niche. But I try to keep it out of the conversation if I can. Not because its a failing business. Its not - its pretty steady. But because how successful I have been is not part of the value of my opinion. If the topic is actually "how are your sales doing" Ill chime in - and my opinions on the market. But I don't go into what I sell, etc. And I don't tell people how much I make.

From: eku Zhong sorry i have no idea what you are trying to say....
ok i read as far as Colettes post.. and i understand now.
But if what he is saying is .. not true then AR would have brought him down, no? Its not so much a AR offesne its more a *Lindens throwing up their hands in disgust* offense. Much in the way they feel about Landbot swoopers.

From: Gabriele Graves However if someone mentions their low prim furniture business and it says quite clearly the name said business right next to that post and every post they make then they are advertising it. So Marcel's assertion is incorrect, you and him do advertise here a lot because everytime you mention you make low prim furniture it is possible to know exactly what that business is without further investigation or a huge leap of deduction. .
maybe thats the exploit

From: Phil Deakins Aaaw, Kitty. You sound peeved that highly useful information is being kept from you Everyone on the building forum could have decided that their understanding/knowledge of sculpties was too much of an advantage to share with anyone else and SL as a whole would have been worse off for it. Instead people selflessly made exporters available and wrote tutorials and helped others who lacked that knowledge. And I'm sure there are plenty of sculpty creators who have no desire to share their particular techniques with anyone else and that's perfectly alright. On the other hand if they came to the forums to post screenshots and sidestep questions of "how did you do that?" with some scapegoat excuse of "I don't like some people here so I'll just show off instead of being helpful" then it becomes a bit iffy at best.

Therefore what he wrote was with respect to what Colette said. Your reply to Marcel was a change of subject, but it wasn't shown as such. It read as though you supported what Colette wrote to Marcel.

no seriously... maybe thats why they post so much... try googling your name that you use here.. a bunch of forum related stuff pops up.. is archived. if the proper keywords were in there as well, including the slurl and the business name.. i dont see why it wouldnt work.

From: Phil Deakins You didn't have to spell it out at all. Marcel responded to Colette. Therefore what he wrote was with respect to what Colette said. Your reply to Marcel was a change of subject, but it wasn't shown as such. It read as though you supported what Colette wrote to Marcel. No it was not a change of subject, he asked to be shown where he advertised his business with the inference that he did not mention it name and therefore advertise it. My reply was in no way a change of subject as it addressed that one point perfectly. What lead to Marcel making that point is largely irrelevant. So at the risk of seeming to repeat myself...my reasoning behind Colette's post not being the issue is that if *any* post from *anyone* had lead Marcel to say what he said my response would be the same. I do happen to agree with at least one of Colette's points however as I indicated. As a side note I am trying hard here to express my opinion without causing other people to feel as though I am critising them or attacking them, my post was for factual purposes only and was correct based on Marcel's own assertion that it is not advertising because one or more of you do not mention the name of your businesses (paraphrasing of course).

From: Colette Meiji Your post says more of a negative thing about about you than about me.
You are making judgments about me based on a couple of threads in a forums.
At least in Phil's cases its been dozens. Although his conclusions are still wrong. You think so - lol you're dillusional. If you really want to know.... a couple of creators saw my opening posts in the " Traffic Bots" thread over the weekend....they both asked me what planet you were on -rofl In fact, one of them was tempted to join in and ask you a couple of questions, but then opted not to. You're bigger @@#£*% then you give yourself credit for.

We are not in disagreement Colette, I just wanted to try and make my point stand on its own so it would be simpler to make on the basis that Marcel said something that was provably incorrect without needing to bring previous posts up and muddy the waters.

Now you're taken it upon yourself to set Forum etiquettes too? What else must be changed whilst you're at it. I'm really don't understand why this thread is even running as Chris Norse pretty much answered the whole debate.....and from my own findings I agree with him. I think you'll find the next step will be people giving up chasing picks as it pretty muchs doesn't effect ALL search like it did at the beginning.

You have really gone out of your way in this thread to personally attack Colette and her business and now you are pulling out what supposed other people think or say about her as if that is even germane to the conversation. It really is unnecessary.

I'm not sure why I was compelled to read all this garbage since I posted last night. This is worse than the "Bot Places" thread by orders of magnitude. Kudos Colette and others for sticking to your guns. And Kitty, this sums it up beautifully for me. I adore you for this post. From: Kitty Barnett We should petition LL to rename "Resident Answers" to "Resident Favors" then just to make sure that people know they should be happy if we throw them a hint at the answer instead of berating them for being lazy slobs who can't be bothered to find the answer for themselves . Once again you just confirm the fact that the mentality of people who game anything is anything but community driven. The sole thing that seems to matter is how much can be leeched off the community and squeezed out of SL. "Contributing (back)" is a dirty word. Yes, let's all stop sharing knowledge with the masses. We'll all march to the ivory tower and set fire to it because god forbid people might learn how to build things, it would take away an advantage from anyone that sells prim based items in-world. We can blow up to the particle lab after that, stake mentors on HIP so they keep from educating newbies and finally tie up and gag Chosen Few and Jesse Barnett to name but two because they share far too much useful knowledge on the texture and scripting forum respectfully. Caption seen on the Picks tab of the Second Life Profile: "Tell everyone about your favorite places in Second Life" Caption not seen on said tab: "Sell advertising space here"

Ah yes, that old chestnut! Rene, you are the one poking around people' profiles and businesses and bringing them into the thread. Any other businesses that were discussed their creators brought into the thread.

From: 3Ring Binder nope. it's part of the game. so is fraud, theft, and whole host of other things too. Just because something is possible in a game/system does not mean it's not cheating. After all there are lots of things you can do in games for example that are not forbidden by any written rules, but will get you kicked out for unsportsmanlike behavior.

Yes, but do you really want to see warfare of this sort in sl where people hunt down exploits and anything that isn't expressly forbidden to make lindens to cash out for real money? After all there are rules that corporations and businesses abide by for one simple reason: it's good for profits, the people that follow those kinds of business concerns are being swept aside for the free for all in the name of profit sorts. Net result is going to be no point to being an honest merchant, so the honest merchants go away in the end leaving only the dishonest ones.

I completely disagree. ------------------ As for the rest ... I wouldn't have said one thing about your business if you hadn't presumed on mine. If I use general terms and that applies to someone, thats too bad. I am not singling out some nameless person for anything. If one of your content creator acquaintances wants to come around and call me a bitch .. well there's nothing but manners stopping them. They should feel free to speak up. I'd prefer that to you and Phil being all snively saying how people are always talking about me behind my back.
