If I remember right, the nose of a B-24.

Yup...that's what I thought. :)

Yep.

B24 and B17. Can it get any better?

Is it getting warm in here all of a sudden?

*sigh* SL and it's Forums have sure been eyeopeners for me. I had never spent any time chatting or reading fora before coming to SL. While I was on Help Island someone griefed the area with one of those horrible iconic images (I forgot what it's called, and anyway, I wouldn't want to remind anyone of it.) To this day, the image stays with me. I've found the lack of courtesy, and the outright name-calling in some threads distressing. But I really would not have believed if I hadn't been exposed to it here in this thread by our friend Pep, the utterly petty and malicious depths to which one can sink. It's disheartening to think a grown man can become so immersed in trying to make a group of relative strangers miserable.

I apologize for bringing it up, I know he's best ignored.

/me shakes her head.

Boomer is getting big!

How's his (your?) schooling going?

He is now in Basic obedience class. he's doing well. He really is a smart dog, sometimes frighteningly so. He takes after his owner I guess. :p But he definitely has a fierce independant streak, sometimes he just will not accept being told what to do. Once again, just like his owner. ;) The classes are also good as they are a 40 minute car ride, so he is adapting to the car really well. Next weekend I'm going to Gettysburg and taking him, so it will be his first relatively long ride. It will help prepare him for Christmastime when we drive down to North Carolina and Florida.

I saw those two flying over my RL home before. So impressive!

There needs to be more big planes like this in SL, I tink.

I love aircraft nose art. it's too bad it's gone .

The B17 itself was flying art, I feel it is one of the most beautiful aircraft ever made, and the added nose art makes it even moreso.

Whenever "Memphis Belle" is on TV , I watch it. What a sight it must have been to be in England back then, and seeing and hearing hundreds of B17's taking off and flying overhead. It must have been awesome.

I'm sure it was remarkable over Berlin too. :p

Seal from prop plane used as Air Force One by both Kennedy and Johnson. Used for smaller airports that couldn't handle jets.

Considering "why" they were taking off, and what that meant to those living there at the time, it's a scene I don't mind having missed.

"Why" they were there, to an extent has made it possible for us to be here today to even discuss it. But we won't go there. Let's get back to Earth Day.

Lexxi - would you drop me an LM to The Refuge, please? Those pics look cool.

I'll see if I can find an LM for it when I get home tonight.

Lovely place ground level. Quite neat sky gardens/nature/water. I warn that the sky gardens contain several interlinked erotic galleries.

Erm...I just meant I'd rather not be in a city in the middle of a war zone. If I had my druthers. Especially a city that had just suffered years of air attacks.

Notice from the Guild of Paul Foot Connoisseurs
04-22-2009 10:42
I just got this note from Paul Foot about his weekly radio show.

If you don't know him, he is hysterically funny.

From: someone

This Thursday, I shall be presenting my weekly radio show on Resonance FM. This week's text-in topic is police brutality. Those of you who do not reside in the Not Very United Kingdom may or may not know that our police have been getting a bit stroppy lately and keep bruising people's legs* and knocking citizens to the ground* until they die and stuff.

*Allegedly. There is no evidence for this, other than video footage.

You may text in your thoughts about the police to 07870 212189 (+447870 212189 from outside the UK). What is the most brutal or rude thing a police officer has done to you? Or the nicest? Are you currently in love with a police constable? Or has a policeman promised you the world and then broken your heart? Text in during the show, or in advance - the text lines are now open!

You can hear my broadcast at 7pm British time on 104.4FM in London, or online at resonancefm.com

from Mr Paul Foot, Life President, the Guild of Paul Foot Connoisseurs
