BTW, the Hotel Dare is now gone, sadly. What a great build/shopping area that was.
Yes it was. And that sim is also where the store was that made the midget porn dress.

Ouch. I hope you feel really good really soon. I just got off the phone 5 minutes ago from making an appointment with the neurology department at my hmo to try to get some new ideas for coping with my headaches.

Good luck Kaimi. I've been on a regimen of Topomax (a anti-seizure med) for a couple of years now, 2x a day. Low dose. Seems to have curbed them for the most part but I still get them occassionally. When they hit, I take Imitrex which usually works darn good, but most of the time I need to take 2 of them to fully get rid of it. If you want to PM me, there's a 3rd piece to this which I don't want to write here since the guys probably won't be interested lol.

Working with a neurolgist is necessary. I love mine, if it weren't for him I'm sure I'd still be getting them way more frequently. Sometimes, they used to knock me out for 2-3 days. Now, usually the worst it is? About 1/2 a day and I can usually function relatively well through it for the most part, as opposed to hibernating the entire day like I used to.

Congrats. I am a smoker who is trying to quit. Any suggestions?

I quit in May '07. I went on the patch for 6 weeks, and suffered a little for a week after that. I backslid one night at a bar, sort of ... I couldn't even finish the thing, and proclaimed that I'd never smoke again.

I still get the urge, but I tell myself that's all it is and move on. Two years come this May, and I'll officially have kicked the habit :D

Good afternoon, or not.

Woke up with a migraine, blah. Me and 3Ring and I know a few others of you deal with this and it sure isn't any fun. Slowly getting rid of it, but it's been an unpleasant morning hence me just arriving here.
/me passes you the eye shades & ear muffs and makes the room super dark.

When does the gorean hunt end? I fizzled half way through. I started unpacking the items, and didn't find much to keep. Is there anything particularly noteworthy in the second half?

I have not looked at any of the items yet, but I have gotten up to 30 something. Then I haven't looked since Monday, if I looked Monday.

And you have a much brighter future. I spent a summer working with ambulance crews. 25%-30% of our calls were to people in distress because of smoking related lung problems. A lot of them still couldn't quit. They had an oxygen tank in the corner and a pack of cigarettes on the coffee table. Never being able to take a decent breath of air...

It really is awful. I've never smoked, so I don't know how hard it is first hand, my best friend's dad died from emphysema when she was small, I've seen what that did to her family. I've seen mum try to quit several times, and how hard it is on her. Yet my Grandad managed to quit cold turkey after 30 years, and the benefit he's got from that is amazing to see, he's 70 now, and one of the fittest people I know.

Watching what a family friend had to go through in her last few months because she was too stubborn to even try quitting was the final straw for me. I don't go round nagging people to stop smoking, it's their choice, but I know I will never be tempted to start.

68 on my drive in :)

Congrats Lil- been smoke free for nigh on three years now after smoking for about 30 myself :(

Put them down before they put you down. Husband spent 1 week in intensive care for a stroke almost three years ago- he quit because someone died in the room next to him and he had nightmares that the heart monitor flatlining he heard was his. I had to quit then since it would hardly be fair for him to quit and I keep smoking.
I actually ended up with an official emphysema diagnosis before I quit. I went and did one of the heart scans because I have horrid cholesterol problems, and I added in the lung scan because of the great price on the combo. It ended up that the heart scan showed absolutely no plaque accumulating in my arteries, but the lung scan found a spot that required more tests. The end result was 'no cancer' but there was a dead spot in the lungs - emphysema. That gave me the incentive to ask the doctor about the Chantix that I had heard about.

My husband actually continue to smoke for about 9 months after I quit. He did finally start taking the Chantix also and has now been quit for about 6 months. He did also use the nic gum and actually got himself addicted to that, but has now been off of it for about a month now.

I have read that quitting smoking is actually harder than kicking a cocaine or heroin addiction because of the way that the nicotine works in the brain. After my many prior attempts, I can believe it.

And I am so glad that my kids never started and think it is disgusting. I think part of it is that the education on the real dangers of it has gotten so much better in the past 20 years.

Yikes

I agree with what you say, my kids are VERY happy that I quit, the older girls have been on my for years. But believe it or not, the deciding factor was that after I divorced, I went on eHarmony to online date and every one of the guys were "non-smoking". So, I saw which way the tide had turned and figured why not now and I'm glad I did :)

Elora, re: Imitrex Are you taking the 50mg or 100 mg? I always have to take two also, but mine is the 100mg...back when they started me off on them, they prescribed the 50mg and I wasn't getting any relief, but now to me, it is a miracle drug...up and about within 20 mins of the second one :)

I finished it yesterday, but have not unpacked everything yet. I'll do a quick scan today and let you know if it is worth it.

Everything from around 15 or so is just about an entire sim for each stop and the flowers all stay tiny.

I hardly believe it, but I'm still going on the Gorean Hunt, somewhere around halfway, although it's hard to tell because of the weird numbering. I'll have to consult LittleMe's note to see how far I have to go.

The flowers are just incredibly small, except for one store, one of the smallest of the stores, had a flower as big as me. I don't know whether that's ironic or what.

My grandfather had smoked his entire adult life. One day he just decided he didn't want to spend the money any more, and at the age of 70 quit cold turkey. I don't know how he managed it. He was an awful stubborn cuss when he put his mind to something though.

My father smoked pipes/cigars. I have fond memories of some of his pipes, and especially the cherry or vanilla tobacco he used. I still remember my Christmas trips to tobacco shops as a child to buy his presents there...tampers...a new pipe...or a tobacco I thought smelled good. He cut down to a pipe every few days, but never quit...but his lungs remained strong until his death. (at 80)

My mother has been a pack+ a day smoker as long as I can remember. In theory her lungs are still ok for a smoker. But she has debilitating arthritis...and the nicotine prevents the good arthritis meds from really helping her. Now her line is...at my age it would hurt me more to quit... (she is only 69)

as far as second hand smoke...I suppose we'll see...I've struggled with my cardio fitness levels my whole life. At least compared to my peers. (who many times were navy SEALS, divers, and rescue swimmers) Growing up in a cloud almost certainly contributed.

and *that* was way more than anyone wanted to know on this subject! shutting up now...oh look! shiny!

Thank you everyone for darkening the room and providing eyeshades and such. Just what I needed. Good thing I'm so good at touch typing or I wouldn't be able to keep up with my posting :p (or course I'd have to be psychic as well to know that did all those things for me, but that's another story....)

Re: Smoking

I never smoked. Never wanted to (well at least not cigarettes ;) ) None of my siblings do either (3 of them). Both of my parents did, although my father quit when I was fairly young. I have awful memories of being stuck in the car on long rides, getting car sick from the fumes of her cigarette smoke continuously wafting into the back seat.

She finally quit, cold turkey around age, ummm 50ish or so. Don't remember exactly (she' passed quite a while ago from other reasons unrelated). I remember how hard it was for her, and gave her a lot of credit doing it that way. I know she tried other methods before that, but for some reason just STOPPING was the way for her.

I find it very difficult to be around people who smoke now. Was more tolerent of it when younger but as I've gotten older, it's become problematic for health reasons as it sets off my migraines now in addition to aggravating a throat issue I have. It's always been a deal breaker in relationships. When we were at Ghosty's parents house for Thanksgiving, his brother was puffing away in their basement apartment after dinner and OMG, it was floating up into the main part of the house big time. I haven't been around it in a while and was very concious of it. Realized I could never spend a night in that house if we were invited :(

Yup...smoking is a non-starter for a lot of people now.

I take the 50 mg, because sometimes it works fine. Was told to go ahead and take 2 if need be which is what I do. Usually will wait a couple of hours tho, go to bed and see if the first one works or not. I also am much better now about taking the medication as soon as I feel one coming on which has made a big difference. That seems to halt them from becoming full-fledged attacks where I'm buried under the quilts for an entire day

Yes Elora, for sure, take them as soon as you feel one coming on. I too, have learned over time to do that, use to wait and see if went full-fledged, and it always did :( Mine are suppose to be hormonal, I'm not sure about that, but we'll see in another year or two.

Hope you feel better soon

I smoked for one week when I was 15, and the only reason I did was because my friend smoked and I would accompany her on her daily forays to sneak a smoke down at the end of the block in the woods. :p Dumb, huh?

But...I never really liked it. It made me nauseous and light-headed. So, when my boyfriend insisted that I stop, I did. :)

Now, my mom smoked, heavily. Drove all of us (me, siblings, my dad) CRAZY. The smell was ever-present in the air; it permeated the drapes...upholstery....clothing...everything.

She smoked from the time she was 18 until she was 61...at which time, she stopped...cold turkey!! It was as if a switch inside her turned on and she was able to quit.

Now,the urge was still there (and it still is; she's 82)...and but for the week after the death of her mom, she's never picked up another cigarette. And I admire her immensely for her strength of will.

My dad smoked a pipe for years.
One of my favourite smells as a child, was an old fashioned tobacconists shop, where my dad bought his weekly supply.
I'd get to rub down the block into loose flake, and the scent of the stuff is still with me now.
At times he also smoked a vanilla mixture, and a black cherry one :D

He stopped smoking years ago. I think he realised that my mum was smoking more than enough for all of us.

I've never even been tempted to try tobacco.
