I once saw a documentary that showed pictures of the insides of a heavy smokers lungs who had died from lung disease, I would think that anyone who needs help in giving up the habit should take a look at something like that - if it does not strengthen your resolve then I am not sure what would.
You would not believe how well we can deceive ourselves. I saw tons of pics but always was sure it was not me. It really took the cancer scare to jolt me - and I know people that have had the scare and still did not quit, not to mention those already on oxygen all the time.

The human mind is very good at not really seeing what we do not want it to see. And we can rationalize anything.

I hear you but I think that shows that we are not ready to give up what we are still clinging to. Once we are ready to give something up, we open up more to the truth of things.

Yikes - I was very surprised. With all of the talk of smoking and quitting, I actually found myself, a couple of times today, walking towards the garage for a cig - and there have been no cigs there for quite some time. Wow.

When I picked up my wife at the oncology center, there were people walking around outside with drips and smoking...

They have since added 100 feet to the no-smoking zone for hospitals. At least they are now getting more exercise.

true story-

called the court to fix my boo boo, and instead of it saying i had to appear on Jan 14 at 8:30a, it said i "failed to appear, please hold for an operator".

and then......
clown music. warped, and slow, but definitely clown music from a circus.

as i giggled, i told the lady who answered the phone that "i found that hysterical, and that whoever set that up had an awesome sense of humor, and yeah i get it- i'm a doofus clown". LOL

her somber reply? "i just think it's creepy. your back on the list for April 1st. will there be anything else?"

ok, so i don't think it was HER sense of humor that set up the on-hold music for dumbasses who miss jury call. =\

I won't even pretend in SL but that is because I smoked for 35 yrs (grew up in a rough neighborhood, started at the age of 10) -- have now been quit for 15 months.
