I have never smoked, never will and always found it a disgusting habit to be around. My tolerance for it is extremely low.

<<Removed Personal Information because basically I am paranoid - deal with it :p>>

I think that everyone who has or who is in the process of giving up is making a fabulous decision for themselves and everyone around them. My heart cheers whenever I hear of anyone who has finally kicked the habit.

Holy Crap! A US Air Flight just went down in the Hudson River after leaving LaGuardia. It apears to have run into a flock of geese and lost engines. So far it seems everyone survived, and they are trying to get everyone off before the plane sinks totally.
My thoughts and hopes for everyone's well-being go out to those involved.

Oh no! I hope everyone is ok.

Today is not a good day, the Gaza conflict has escalated and they've hit a UN compound with hundreds of people and lots of food supplies inside. Some of the pictures on the news had me crying.
Today just seems to get more and more depressing :(

Crash update: Everyone appears to be off the plane, no serious injuries. Luckily it went down near 42nd Street and Intrepid. That is a ferry route, there are boats crossing the river every 5 minutes or so. There were ferries at the plane within 2 minutes or so. An FDNY Fireboat has the plane in tow, keeping it afloat. It looks like a marvelous bit of flying, kudos to the pilots.

On the plus side, I'm planning a party for two weeks time if I can sort it out. Maybe the 3Oth or 31st...more info as I have it....

OK, that's all I have on it, I'm turning the sound off on the TV as the talking heads are starting to annoy me.

I'm watching the news right now. It's amazing that everyone made it off safely enough.

They're saying the pilot will face federal charges, not sure why. A passenger is saying he saw smoke very soon after the plane took off and the pilot said he was going to ditch the plane.

UPDATE: Seems like it may have it a flock of geese and some got sucked into the engine. Plane was put down "so gently on the water, it almost seemed planned"

...

I smoked a pipe for about one year in college, thinking it made me look more mature (especially the part taking a turn in the car and spilling ashes into my lap). Funny thing is, you hear about the horrors of lung cancer, but now that I am married to an oncology nurse, I'm finding that serious tongue and esophageal cancer is worse as an experience, and the pipe and cigar smokers are deluding themselves (me included).

The one suicide among her patients was an esophageal patient reduced to living on a very specific diet and in great discomfort when not in pain. Killed his wife, killed himself.

Yet my son smoked until his significant other wadded up his cigarette packs and told him it was one or the other, and he, well, he did give up cigarettes best we know. Funny thing, who has real influence.

Now I have a pipe collection in the attic that my wife says I can't sell or give away, and I can't make myself throw away the Meershaums and freehands...

An FAA/NTSB investigation will be held as a matter of routine, but there is no evidence of any wrongdoing. Where are you hearing that?

A reporter on CNN.

On the other hand, I've had a headache all day, maybe I misunderstood something said, possible.

No considering the source, that's quite possible.

Other than a normal investigation the only charges (which is an odd way of putting normal investigation) might be if the geese were endangered (on the endangered species list, not just in danger of dying). Pretty stupid if that was the case.

Lol, I think so too. I wish there was one reputable new service left, We watch BBC sometimes. They seem to be rather unbiased and to the point without much underlying BS.

Wow- how horrible- glad it turned out alright for the passengers.

The geese weren't so lucky.

Seems to me the pilot should get a medal, not an indictment.

Pilots of modern airliners have a job a little like soldiers on guard duty...many, many hours of routine and boredom, punctuated by the occasional few moments of terror. It's those critical moments when the pilot earns his or her high salary.

I'm with Brenda...it looks as if the pilot earned his pay on this one.

It's not so much bias as it is the race for a scoop, and sensationalism. Every little rumor is presented as a fact by so called journalists in an effort to grab ratings. They're all equally guilty of it. I watch the Cable Company's News Channel (News 12 NJ) to get the headlines and then go look for what I want on my own. The rest of it is garbage.

Agreed, and so do the passengers apparently. A couple of them were interviewed and were highly grateful for the pilots skills.

These appear to be the run of the mill Canadian geese. They're all over the place around here.

Hey folks...planning a party for Saturday 31st...2pm SLT-ish. Not really an occasion, just a party for the hell of it lol. I'll send out a notice in the keepers and the cartel groups once I confirm with the DJ, but figured might as well give advance notice.

And all over the place here too....I gotta do a report on them invading a local water fowl park for my Biology assignment. And I *really* don't like geese :(
