I could not figure out British Electrical Theory so I couldn't keep it.

 You mean the current runs counter-clockwise over there?

Of course you would love Triumphs look where you live. :-) They are cool bikes. I owned a Triumph Spitfire (car) when I was younger. I could not figure out British Electrical Theory so I couldn't keep it.

Oh god, you should try working on a Norton sometime. Beautiful bike. Turn on the haed lamp and the alternater dies.

I have no idea where it goes or how it gets there. With the positive cable connected to the frame of the car and all of my cassette tapes playing backwards. My feeble mind couldn't handle it. "CX"

Well, see, that actually makes sense. Current is electrons moving, and electrons have a negative charge. I never could understand why our convention has it that current flows from + to -, when all the teeny little electrons are swimming the other way.

OK - I've looked into it - The first picture in Oryx's post is a Royal Enfield. That's the bike I was talking about that is made in India. I just checked their website. I'm officially in love. I mean it. They have a handful of models to choose from, but they are all based on the 1955 version of the bike and it really hasn't changed in the last 50+ years.

That's my bike. I can justify it because of the 70 mpg, but I love everything about that bike.

Is THAT why I got a B in Electromagnetic Physics?

There's a dealer in The Dalles, which is just outside Portland, OR.

Edit: Salem might be closer.

It's not the electrons jumping over that flow. It's the electrical charge left from an open hole where an electron should be. It's not really the electron flow, it's the holes that flow.

I know that. My professors used the same bafflegab. But holes don't flow...they're, well, HOLES. Something has to pop into them to fill them up. They lie in wait for a passing electron, swimming upstream.

Sounds like either an egg waiting for sperm, or a Trout waiting for a girl, er, bug.

I think Oryx just called me a hole.

Hold please, while I work up a full head of righteous indignation. Flaming to follow soon. Unless I get distracted by something shiny or fall asleep.

A more appropriate anology is that the electrons are being pulled up stream. They don't go swimming on their own.

No, she called a hole a Trout. Which sounds about on the same level as a professor trying to tell me that holes move.

Enough of this nonsense! I am going to brave the drippiness outside in order to obtain warm chocolate chip cookies. The way the weather's been here lately, I wouldn't be making any sacrifices if I moved to the UK, where electricity behaves the way it should.

Er...except for that VAT thing, of course. Maybe I'll just stay here and continue to wire things backwards. Meanwhile...mmm, cookies!

I think the Y offers swimming lessons...let's send the electrons there.

Electrons are negatively charged, so the direction they are flowing is negative current. Positive current has to go the other way.

All that tuition money is finally good for something.

And there's been a Brenda sighting on another thread. Someone grab her and drag her over here. Then we'll only need a Linden to complete the set. (Has Desmond posted on here yet?)

Wait a minute. You have negative AND positive current? But that's two currents. And there's only this one wire here. Who's doing the traffic control? And who's going to do something about Oryx's sucking holes?

And why haven't I gone for cookies yet?

/me grabs umbrella and scurries out.
