One point that is often overlooked in these threads are the existence of gray areas. Things not explicitly forbidden but controversial.

For instance, in some parts of the world, nudism is practiced among people of all ages--without the presence of inappropriate behavior. On the other hand there are people in the US who think a singer's exposed breast is a major outrage.

Holding a virtual drink, cigarette, or joint is clearly inoffensive to most people, yet there are those who think it is inappropriate for a minor to view such activities.

Sadly, LL has to be mindful of these gray areas, and so minors must be banned from the main grid. The alternative would be a PG-rated SL, which would be the death of it.

I think the OP was hoping that using PC hot words and a LOT of confusing verbiage would get the crowd here moving in the direction he/she/it wished to manipulate. I am pleased to see that forum contributors/troublemakers are not so stupid as OP hoped. : D

I intuit you are European. Please understand, in the US, there are times and places for exposed adult female breats - and there are times and places for what are deemed "family values", meaning nothing you wouldn't do in church or in front of your great-aunt who became a nun.

Go to an adult website, and baby, anything goes. Go to anything marked with things like mature, adult, X, XX, XXX, or other similar espressions, and I think there is little if anything US that Europeans would find unfamiliar. In fact, we just might have a few things going on you haven't thought about! Buy a Playboy or any of the other "girlie" magazines, and I am sure your eyes will be opened.

But anything that is deemed a "public" place has a very different set of rules. Those are the rules of your great-aunt the nun.

We in the US are cool with the idea that you reserve some things that are best presented to adults and not young children to places and venues where you expect to find adults and not young children. And we accept the idea that things like Ms. Jackson's breast are better shown in those places, and not in places hwere families including young children are likely to be present.

Look. I personally am cool with female breasts being visible for their natural function - feeding babies. So are a lot of people in the US. A kid in a nudist camp will see a lot and few of us will turn a hair about it. But trust me, Ms. Jackson's breasts are NOT NOT NOT dedicated to such a purpose. In her case, exposed breasts are sexual, period, and it is the odd peculiarity of the US that we take exception to certain expressions of adult sexuality in venues where we expect children to be present.

If you wish to get on your high horse about how European you are and feel superior to the US about this, go ahead; this is the free world. But your intolerance of the customs of other places like the US suggests that you are not really such a good European, after all, since that is a place that accommodates tolerance for an unusually wide range of values compared to much of the world. (Try exposing Ms. Jackson's breast on a TV show seen by millions, including families, in China, India, the Middle East, much of the rest of Asia outside China, Latin America, and assorted places like Australis, some countries in Africa - and see how long it take for the police to arrive.)

Go learn some tolerance, O agenda-ridden chauvinist!

There is no federal law agaisnt Nudity. Restrictions are local ordinances. Some have even been struck down by the courts when the nudity does not include lewd behavior.



The Janet Jackson thing was a MANUFACTURED scandal. The Media had a frenzy about it becuase of ratings. There are celebrity nipple slips that happen all the time that illicit no such outrage.

There are no federal laws against nudity, but the FCC does restrict nudity and language on television and they are a federal agency. One with way too much power I believe.

I personally was very offended by the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. Not because of her exposed nipple (yawn), but because it seemed like a cheesy publicity stunt on her part. I have no proof of that, of course, just my humble opinion.

This can't possibly be true. Beets are not even food. They are some sort of weird practical joke played on us by farmers who all probably sit around joking about what they got the city folks to eat this week. I'm on to them. Really. Beets are awful. They smell like a petting zoo on a hot day; they stain everything purple and they taste like rancid milk. You can't possibly adore them.

Yay! Reminds me of my colleague at work who tried phyllisalis (spelling? Cape Goosberries) for the first time and declared that they 'tasted of poo' - we didn't ask ...

Beets are luscious bites of earthy goodness! Beets aren't scared to be more colorful than the tablecloth. Beets can be crunchy tangy bolder versions of potato chips, or beets can be vinegary and sharp, like a mother-in-law's tongue. Beets make potatoes slink away in fear and dejection. O Thou Earthy, Dirty Root of Flavor and Bravado, how I adore Thee!

I never liked beets until a year or so ago when one of my favorite resturants starting making a salad with them.. Roasted beets, arugula, hazlenuts and goat cheese. Yummy!!

I am now a fan of beets but not so much that I write odes to them.
