I have no wish to be banned obviously. The pics of cats are cute and fluffly and they make we want to puke. So I joined in the fun. It was funny, it still is, to me at least... In an attempt to bridge this chasm, I looked up a few pictures that could imply Porky's degree of nausea while—I think—maintaining a light a humorous tone that would NOT have created such an uproar. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, alternatives to the barf... ![]() ![]() _____________________

The only acceptable reason for posting pictures of fluffy kittens in the second life forums is if you're a male roleplaying a female and you're trying to increase your immersion.
Otherwise there is just no need for that kind of grotesque imagery here. _____________________

How about them Goreans? Now you're getting nasty. (Notice the wink...that was a quote from some movie...I want to say something Harrison Ford was in...like one of the Indiana Jones movies. Anyone remember it?) _____________________

... But I have heard some complain that they don't use the Forums because they think it's just a kind of lame debating society, or they're afraid they'll be ridiculed. I really don't know. Some call us a clique, though really I only see a small few as being snooty - though a larger few (old and new alike) seem to take too many things a bit too personal and get their emotions involved too much and then end up with their panties all bunched. I really don't think RA is any different than any other forums that I have been a part of -- the regulars get to know each other and joke around and sometimes push the rules. _____________________

When I was here on a more regular basis, I always pushed the rules. It was ok for me and the rest of the clique because we are better than the others. _____________________

My hunch is that the Forums just aren't getting enough promotion to new residents. But I have heard some complain that they don't use the Forums because they think it's just a kind of lame debating society, or they're afraid they'll be ridiculed. I really don't know. Interesting you mention this...I promote the forums in a lot of places, including classes I take. Reading your post, Qie, made me think of a comment in a class I took and wanted to get the exact quotes (names except mine excluded). This was from a class I took on doing research prior to beginning a SL business: [2008/12/01 19:26] You: I know I sound like a broken record on this point...but many well-known business people in SL post on the forums...and are happy to share info when asked [2008/12/01 19:26] (Student): i really need to take advantage of the forums more.....lol [2008/12/01 19:26] (Instructor): but ...I have seen them respond nasty if you are asking them to do your research for you [2008/12/01 19:26] (Student): i rarely go there The class continued so wasn't quite sure if the instructor was down on the forums in general or was commenting on the "survey" threads given the subject of the class. Either way, imo, it gave a bad impression of the forums to the class. I'm surprised when I mention the forums in SL and see how many people have never heard of them. _____________________

I fully understand that. I lurked for a long time to get a feel for the regulars before I started posting. Some call us a clique, It did feel like a clique, when I first started reading regularly. I don't think that can be helped, you all have obviously been together for quite awhile. I began to get a feel for some of you and it doesn't feel that way anymore. I just joined the Cartel inworld. _____________________

According to a webinar I attended on social networking we are part of the 90-9-1 rule.
90% of users are "lurkers" (i.e. they read or browse but don't contribute) 9% of users contribute from time to time, but other priorities dominate their time 1% of users participate very often and account for most of the contributions Personally, I don't understand lurking. It would drive me nuts to merely read these posts and not take the opportunity to add my two cents. _____________________

welcome to you too n00b Actually, the originalLindens have rez dates in 2002. I've never seen a resident with one from 2002, tho I'd bet the Lindens had accounts without Linden names predating the Beta. . |

The thread started out so nice and that's what I was looking for. My puppy had a seizure she never came out of and died yesterday. I was pretty distraught and cried all afternoon. The kittens were adorable and the thread was fun. Then I saw that awful post and it killed the whole thing for me.
