If you mean, why was that fat bloke chucking up in a bag, then I don't have a clue. I typed 'vomit' into google images and that was the first pic I saw. Seems to be taken from someones Myspace profile.

You should google it yourself and see if you can find out the poor fellows back story that led him to that unfortunate day.

I would say that was true for a legit threads. Look at my post history, I am helpfull the majority of the time when there is a legit SL related question. But for a completely non related thread that should never have been created as per the forum rules, then there is no reason why i shouldnt hijack it, the whole thread is inappropriate. I would not post an image that wasnt PG but beyond that those sort of threads are fair game IMO.

At least it raised the issue of moderation again thanks to this thread so you should be thanking me

1. There's no pressing need for cat pictures in Resident Answers. And it would probably be better if RA managed to answer more resident questions, which it would if there *were* more resident questions, which there might be, were there not so many cat pictures. (Or, more precisely, not quite so many threads about things quite so irrelevant as cat pictures.) Maybe.

2. It's a pretty chancy proposition to try to taunt a moderator to action, especially when what moderators we have are operating with no apparent encouragement from the forum owners.

3. Given that situation, it's also pretty chancy to critique a moderator's actions. I'm just glad we still have a few moderators who step in occasionally.

4. There is a whole forum for discussing topics like this: /274/1.html. Not a lot of activity there. Hasn't been a lot of moderating to discuss, either.

5. Even when ResMods were officially supported by LL, their roles and abilities in these forums were constrained. That was not a bad thing, but god only knows what the situation is now, or what it will become when Our Outsourced Overlords take the reigns.

Many times a quote is not needed - especially when commenting on a pic. If I am going to comment on specific statements made by someone else, I will usually quote the relevant part rather than using the "@so-and-so" so that others do not have to scroll/page back to see what I am referring to. It all depends on what one is commenting on and why.

True - there is no need anywhere really for cat, dog, horse or even warthog pictures. Fine - true. Still, I don't really think questions are impacted by the degree of silliness generally found in RA- questions get posted and people answer them and many times a lot faster than in the fora dedicated to each particular subject.

While it is true that there are stated rules for what goes where, it is also true that these rules are not overly enforced. Some people crave order and to such, anarchy is anathema - I suppose it just goes to what each individual is geared towards. I was not here when GD was an open forum but I have heard it was given to flaming and was not a terribly good atmosphere. This seems to work over all. Questions get asked and answered and some nonsense occurs and mostly no one gets terribly upset. Meh - I can't see any reason to fix what isn't broken. And Porky, not sure why I actually bothered to direct any comments at you about your pic choice- I mostly have a laissez faire attitude.. must be the moon.

Why? Because you think so? There are degrees to everything in life. You cannot just blanket say "if you are going to break the rules then so can I and however any of us choose to break the rules does not matter, we are all just as bad".

Actually, since most of the off-topic general stuff is now confined to the undying thread, there are very few threads that are not related to SL and most are questions -- though a very large majority of them lately have also been necroposts.

Absolutely agree that the undying thread has worked out to be an effective placeholder for... diversions. That's why I included the parenthetical about "number of threads" being the possible culprit behind what only might be a problem.

TBH, I'm not at all sure there even is a problem with the content of RA. I do think we aren't getting enough resident questions--and I very much doubt it's because all residents know all the answers. My hunch is that the Forums just aren't getting enough promotion to new residents. But I have heard some complain that they don't use the Forums because they think it's just a kind of lame debating society, or they're afraid they'll be ridiculed. I really don't know.
