That German woman sounded rather interesting, Deira, though "she" was prolly a man in drag.

I think you must mean Laurin.

I always thought it would have been great if sine wave would have made sex animations..

They need to work on their dance animations first. Too many of them 'break' the joints or otherwise bend unnaturally.

On the other hand, a couple of the motion capture animators do put out sex animations. Henmations is mostly dance, but has some sex stuff as well, which I believe they claim is motion capture. I've seen at least one other place making that claim as well.

But really, people, why submit yourself to the horrors of lag and self-abuse by waving a pixil hand around and doing a St. Vitus dance imitation when you could be having sex with your partner in comfort of a private sim or a public nude beach?

Because it isn't all about sex? Do you have a fixation on sex or something? shesh.

This thought might already have been said, and if so, sorry.

(mind you, why do they have them in RL?)

Because God told us to multiple and be fruitful. As I do not like doing math, and as eating fruit seems to be missing the point . . .

...And I suspect that seeing animated bodies dancing has a similar effect. I suspect that effect is even stronger when one identifies with one of those dancing animated bodies, or associates one of them with a friend.
What an interesting, and probably true, thought.

Just for you, Jig, because I know you'll love it so:

So why do people have babies in SL?
That was one of the questions that I might find difficult to answer!

I can't understand this appeal of "dancing" in sl. Why do it? Okay, I understand its potential for chatting while picking someone up, but avis can't send body signals and facial language to each other in sl like we can in real when we are on the dance floor and "in da groove". In sl, a relatively short movement sequence is repeated ad infinitum and clumsily at that. I also appreciate that people who are confined by a disabiliy can expeience something of the "dance experience".
But really, people, why submit yourself to the horrors of lag and self-abuse by waving a pixil hand around and doing a St. Vitus dance imitation when you could be having sex with your partner in comfort of a private sim or a public nude beach?

I can't understand this appeal of repeatedly asking questions with an off the wall judgment, in order to get a rise. Why do it?

Okay, I understand it's potential for chatting while giving an opportunity to monopolize the discussion and lay out every single detail of one's SL life, which most dance partners couldn't care less about, and would become bored to death with.....certainly a sex partner would feel the same, but most likely they are loading the dishwasher, walking the dog, or cleaning out the cat's litter box while one is rambling on, and have left their pixels unattended on the screen. But yes, one does have a captive audience, here.

But really people, why submit yourself to the horrors of dribble and self-abuse, and yet another attempt to get a rise and to get a platform for one to lay out every single detail of their SL sex history....simply because the dance or sex partner has long since walked away from the computer in boredom, and left their pixels humping? Why should you sit here, and do their dirty work while they're out walking the dog to get away from it?

Sad commentary indeed. :)

*LMAO* And then, you come back, ask your avatar 'Are you done yet? Yes? GOOD! Now you can go build, which is what you really wanted to do anyway."

I thought dancing was perhaps the dumbest use of SL I'd heard of, until a beau took me dancing one night. When he suggested it, I thought, "Seriously? What kind of loser "dances" in SL?" He had to convince me to go, if I recall correctly. And it was the most fun I'd ever had, slex included. The music was fantastic and the chat from folks in the room quite clever.

Like using poseballs in sex, I see dancing as something to keep the avatars busy while the typists interact with each other. It has almost nothing to do with the animations--it's all about the quality of the partners.

I've also found great new music while out dancing, which is handy because local radio here is crap.

Because I've got two left paws in RL.

I find dancing in SL much more explainable than eating or drinking. To extrapolate on that, I feel that the only use for a kitchen in SL is for use as sex furniture. I still can't believe anyone would buy a no-mod kitchen in SL without any sexballs inside, or wouldn't add them to a mod-kitchen.

Brenda may have been right: I see that we have two very firm camps of opinion forming here.

I foresee a new and rancorous thread on the subject of dancing mustelids. :(

I don't spend a lot of time in SL in Clubs or dancing, myself. Until recently, my computer couldn't handle the lag, and the typical club scene was a 1 frame per second or worse slide show. Once I got a better computer, I was usually too busy Building to hang out in clubs and dance.

But I have had some times where I enjoyed being in a club and dancing. Even if I knew no one at all who was there.

As others said, it is a form of social interaction that is more visually engaging than standing stock still and sending text chat or IM's back and forth. So it can be nice for general socializing, getting to meet new people, and the like. And if you're not close enough with them to want to go off and do more intimate animations, dancing is pretty nice.

I am right. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people here who seem to take this "game", and themselves, too seriously.

I dance because when I DJ at a club it makes for a more dynamic scene than to have me just stand there scratching my head.

I dance because I can watch my avatar and kind of zone out for a while.

I dance because there is music playing.

I wouldn't say it's a sad commentary. It is different things to different people. Maybe it isn't your cup of tea, but others like it, so why bag on it?

I find sex animations hilarious, and completely pointless. More so than virtual dancing. But if that's what you like to do, then go for it.
