In order for the US Congress to prevent American kids from accessing porn over the Net, they would have to pass laws such that
1) Hosting of porn on US based servers will be illegal
2) A USA national firewall will block access from the USA to known porn hosts
3) As the population of those hosts would be dynamically changing, all data flowing into the USA will be filtered for text or graphic content, and the foreign hosts of suspected content added to the national firewall list.

Alternatively, the US congress would have to pass laws such that
1) Nobody can access the Net from within the USA unless they pass a biometric test set by the secure authorised terminal from which they are attempting to access the Net. This is to prevent possible access by US kids to porn hosted in other countries.
2) Nobody can access a non-US host unless their biometric test matches a database of verified adults. The damage could be reduced by allowing access to non-US hosts which have been verified as not allowing access to any porn.
3) All USA-hosted porn sites will be obliged to verify the biometric test result against a database of verified adults
4) The database of verified adults can only be created by people creating their biometric signature in the presence of an authorised live person.


The second alternative above would be the most effective.
Although the development of such systems would be very expensive, much of the costs could be reduced by selling the technology to the Chinese government.
Anything else would not prevent a determined US kid from accessing porn.


US congress might be able to restrict Net porn hosted within the USA.
In order to restrict Net porn hosted outside of the USA, the US would have to either
1) Block access from the USA to internationally-hosted porn sites
or
2) Send in the US armed forces to physically destroy those hosts

There is no verification system available that would prevent them to get past the system short of outright banning it.

Yes it's up to governments to make the tech companies fix it. Thus a congressman brings it up and then you attack him saying he is just trying to garner votes along with other things said about him by others.

Credit card verification, id verifications... there are websites where people can pay a small pay pal donation to access to lists of logins to use and access the restricted sites.

Written documentation, who is going to spend the time and money to ship the documentation over seas to use a service? Especially since it would be hard for linden labs to handle the paperwork much less make sure they are all legit documents.

A kid could easily download a template, get his two buddies to forge names on it as witnesses.

cnn and NBC. liberal news menas thats is more realiable then fox noise or stuff. all i watch fox for is the sports coverge, after that, i flip over, infact other then the sports converge i dont watch much tv at all, probley the onyl TV network i DO watch is SLCN.tv and thats based in SL.

I'm not the one hating this congressman for trying to do his job. Yes parents are pushing them to protect kids from porn.

No, I am way too honest to be in government employment. If the used car lot hadn't gone bankrupt this congressman wouldn't be there either, but he couldn't find honest work so he ran for office.

As I said I do not have children in my household at the moment. Why that is I don't go into detail hon. Could be they grew up and moved out, could be I do foster parenting rather than let them sit in an orphanage, could be they died, can be medical reasons, and not going to clarify.

If it bothers you so much that someone points out things you can do as a parent to protect your kid... describe why they are wrong instead of hiding behind attacks that don't matter.

So what is wrong with parents doing the following:
* setting up a child's account on a computer so they can not install software with out the parent knowing what it is
* setting up the computer so the child can not go online with out the parent's permission and supervision
* installing a filter, or at least setting google and the like to safe search only

simple things...
