Am I the only one who feels like they're watching a train wreck? Increasingly poor service, branching out into areas they should have left alone, possible merge of the teen/main grids....and inevitably, in the face of the worst of it, the question: Is your Second Life experience getting better? I've had this feeling for weeks that the increasing concurrency numbers are SL running their own bots to find the breaking point of the grid...and worse, feel like we're rats in a lab experiment going horribly bad. Anyone else?

I think LL is looking to ask for a "Bailout".

Honestly, I haven't had alot of the problems that seem to be ocurring to alot of you, but I am a "noob" so maybe I just don't know any better. I don't think that merging the teen grid and the main grid is a good idea, but I've never been to the teen grid, so I'd say I'm not really qualified to say anything there either. So far, except for the one time I couldn't get logged in last Sunday, my experience in SL has been great, but then again, I'm usually a naturally optomistic person...JMHO.

Yes, and when you've put up with the issues we have, for as long as some of us have...you'll be posting your own "train wreck" posts

Yep, I feel like we're watching a train wreck.
Let's hope the competition gets a lot of things squared away fast, so they're real viable competition for SL.....

Is this the same Second Life that's been working more-or-less OK for me apart from stuff taking longer to rez, or is there some other secret grid I don't know about that's undergoing some sort of virtual armageddon? I've been here over 2 years and there have been bad patches for SL but I don't detect that we're in one at the moment - maybe I've just been lucky this time.

Seriously, are you related to a Linden? All kidding aside, transactions have been borked for days now at one time or another. We have had customers IM us saying that they couldn't purchase this or that, and while we've tried to accomodate them with inventory drops, I can only imagine how many customers just haven't bothered.

I have to say I haven't done any transactions recently apart from transferring my OnRez balance to my in-world balance - that went through OK. But for anyone who thinks I'm smug, it's not all roses as the better of the 2 computers I use has gone caput and I can only use an old laggy one now - but that's not an SL problem. I'm not related to any Lindens. Not as far as I know, anyway! Also, perhaps it's relevant that I'm based in Britain so I'm often in-world when logins are about half the maximum.

Lets just say last nights news about onrez and Xstreet...that was the show stopper for me.. i'm freezing for now to see what happens.. i'm not importing anymore funds until i hear how this Xstreet is gonna be handled..if SL outsources then maybe..if they don't then i'm not risking deposits into it.. i won't argue for my money for two weeks.. any inworld business i conduct will be with paypal for now..

Honestly, I was just teasing you. I'm relatively new to the forums, and I'm learning VERY quickly that the clash of personalities here is quite interesting. I don't want to end up in the middle of that due to my inability to convey subtleties!

Not at all. SL has run more smoothly over past weeks and months than any time for me before that. A few minor glitches over the past few days but nothing really. Honestly, whenever there are a few temporary grid problems people start this kind of sky-falling nonsense. Or if people can't log in for a couple of hours all the toys come flying out of the pram.
As for merging teen/main grids... excellent idea and long overdue. Time to get rid of all the stupid fake-sex stuff and the people who get off on it. Time to open SL up to the possiblity of effective educational projects. Time for SL to become the platform it always had the potential to be.

Time to open SL up to the possiblity of effective educational projects. Time for SL to become the platform it always had the potential to be. Perhaps in the hand of a competent company. All that stupid fake sex stuff is the by product of an atmosphere of creative freedom that being an obstensively adult world SL provides. It also provides for the great builders and creators of the non stupid sex stuff. They can create what they wish without being fettered with regulations or uptight prudes who are moree worried about someone else's business than their own. Areas where all ages can mingle are fine, they can be set up all over the place, but to open up the grid as a whole will turn SL into a dull, boring ivy covered Droneville.

Time to open SL up to the possiblity of effective educational projects. Time for SL to become the platform it always had the potential to be. There are other platforms out there for educators--this isn't it! Perhaps LL could consider specific islands, purchased by educational institutions, allowing both teens and adults. It couldn't be that hard to configure. The adults could import the resources needed for any educational experiences. As an educator myself, I would love to be able to utilize the resources on the entire grid, but I'm enough of a realist to see the profound potential for abuses. Maybe it's time for us, as teachers, instructors and professors, to develop our OWN grid for just that purpose--teaching. As for SL as a whole, however, I value the diversity, freedoms (yeah, there is still a great deal of freedom in SL in spite of the TOS), and 'spirit' enough to want to oppose any potential for more "controls" in the name of protecting the children. On a strictly personal, and probably selfish, note--as parents, the hubby and I don't get to go out as much as we would without kidlets. That said, SL is our recreation--our time to be alone to dance, hold hands and explore. I don't want my fifteen year old, on the computer in our dining room, showing up on the Titanic and interupting dinner. Is it too much to want a place that is just for ADULTS?

I'm sure glad you call four days of disabled logins, non-functioning TPs, failed money transfers and even a note from Linden Lab to not reset our sims (!!!!) and "we're so screwed up we can't even send you a notice to tell you how screwed up we are" 'minor glitches'. No, this isn't "the sky is falling"...to me, it's an indication of some severe problems. Even as of this morning, I was still seeing some incredible lag and failed TPs. Those are the issues LL should be concerning themselves with, rather than worrying about making a few more bucks off the residents by eliminating the free marketplace (OnRez), and running Xstreet themselves...God forbid residents actually buy lindens a little cheaper over there, and let's pad LL's pockets with those commission fees. Merging the teen/main grids may not be the end of the world, but there are a lot of teens out there whose parents don't monitor their online behaviors (inexcusable), and that those teens will now be on the main grid concerns me a lot.
