Can someone explain why I chose to come back after a 4 month hiatus?

Lets just say last nights news about onrez and Xstreet...that was the show stopper for me.. This one did it for me too. Unless I see significant improvement in the next few months, I plan to tier down to 512, use that as my home or perhaps a small shop. Or, I might just go back to Basic and rent a shop on estate property. Not sure. All I know is I see one bad decision after another by LL and I don't want to immerse or expand my business until I see what happens. XStreet was always one area I could trust overall...now with LL buying it out...anything could happen. /one disgruntled SL resident _____________________

There are other platforms out there for educators--this isn't it! Perhaps LL could consider specific islands, purchased by educational institutions, allowing both teens and adults. It couldn't be that hard to configure. The adults could import the resources needed for any educational experiences. As an educator myself, I would love to be able to utilize the resources on the entire grid, but I'm enough of a realist to see the profound potential for abuses. Maybe it's time for us, as teachers, instructors and professors, to develop our OWN grid for just that purpose--teaching. If this ever transpires, please count me in. One of my top interests in SL these days is eduction. _____________________

Not at all. SL has run more smoothly over past weeks and months than any time for me before that. A few minor glitches over the past few days but nothing really. Honestly, whenever there are a few temporary grid problems people start this kind of sky-falling nonsense. Or if people can't log in for a couple of hours all the toys come flying out of the pram. As for merging teen/main grids... excellent idea and long overdue. Time to get rid of all the stupid fake-sex stuff and the people who get off on it. Time to open SL up to the possiblity of effective educational projects. Time for SL to become the platform it always had the potential to be. |

Or a certain unnamed Church ![]() *ducks* Now THAT was offensive. And unnecessary. Also inaccurate - pedophiles go anywhere kids are. And I can tell u from working with certain charities and organisations that means *everywhere*. Not just "one certain church." Don't the SL TOS rules about not slamming religious groups, apply on the forums as well? Just not funny. (And imagine a victim reading it, too if it's only "that church" you want to insult; not so funny from any vantage point.) |

That is an extremely short sighted and narrow minded statement that simultaneously displays a position of ignorance about the broader ramifications of merging the grids concerning speech, self-expression, creativity, content access, and id security. Not at all. It expresses the far-sighted vision that I share with Linden Lab and a number of organisations that would be prepared to explore the potential of SL for major projects that foster creativity and learning in people of all ages. Unfortunately many people are unable to see beyond their own paradigms of what SL is or could be. These are based on SL as it is now, and reinforced by an aversion to change. This underpins many of the frankly ludicrous 'arguments' against any form of positive development for SL. Merging the grids is just part of a much bigger picture. |

Yeah, but nothing beats 6/6/6. You'll bet those bullets against a set? I'll gladly take some of THAT action! No, 6/6/6 refers to 6/6/06, when the Great Unwashed Masses™ were allowed in. Previously, you needed a valid payment method to get an account... now all you need is a disposable (or fake) email address. Why do you think griefing went to absurd levels after that point? Just roll a disposable alt, and blast away. Gets banned? No big deal. Can roll another and keep going if you want. |

......... It may be that they are constantly changing the vision or it may be that different parts of the company are pushing in different directions, what I am sure of is that they don't have a clear and consistent idea of where they are trying to go with this thing. As a result we get confused decisions that get reversed, most obviously the OS fiasco, and there is never-ending tension between new features and improving stability (which to a certain extent is probably inevitable). .... Harkening to another current thread -- it's like the storyline of Lost. ------ made up as it goes along. And people keep watching. |

If your mind filled the blank in....*shrugs* OK, so that's now two posts where you're putting words into my mouth. _____________________

It's called Project Wonderland, backed by Sun and based on Java. Here's an overview with a pointer to the site. http://blogs.universitybusiness.com/2008/06/project-wonderl.html NMC (New Media Consortium) was heavily involved last time I checked. . Thanks Nika ![]() _____________________

There was no question what religion you were talking about. Why not just admit it was a bad joke and appologize? |

There was no question what religion you were talking about. Why not just admit it was a bad joke and appologize? Really? No question? If there was no question...then why be offended? For all you know, I could have been discussing my local church and it was an inside joke to the person I was responding to who, while we're making assumptions, could very well be my sister. Or it could have been the House of Honey Fashion Worship Center. If someone filled in the unnamed portion of my statement with a church that they think has that reputation...I'd say that it's not MY fault. So no, not apologizing. And I'm simply amazed that someone will get their panties in a bunch over an *intentionally* unnamed church, but not say a word about Congress being a pedophile haven. Sheesh. Get over it. _____________________
