I just want to make sure I have my facts straight here. Instead of LL fixing the myriad problems that cause failed transactions, failed tps, and failed logins; they've instead decided to purchase OnRez and SLEx; spend time debating whether or not to merge teen and adult grids; and stand in a circle, holding hands, singing Kumbyah. Here's a newsflash LL--THESE PROBLEMS AREN'T GOING TO GET ANY BETTER IF YOU EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS WITHOUT SEEING WHAT'S ON YOUR OWN DOORSTEP. Business on SL has tanked in recent days for us due to the customer's wavering confidence in being able to actually expect transactions to be successful. The ONE PLACE where we could count on reasonable reliability, SLEx, will now, no doubt, be as mishandled as the rest of the grid. :: sigh :: How hard is it to hire a team that will A) work as a team; B) follow through on one issue before creating another; C) provide customer service for those who have been loyal enough to stick around in spite of the profound mismanagement?? Wait...did that sound bitter?

Makes sense. When I get angry or depressed or things aren't going right, I go shopping. It usually helps. :p

LOL Brenda...yeah, shopping might help, but the last THREE transactions timed out. So I guess SL shopping isn't an option.... Since I'm at work, I think my only option is Ebay. LL hasn't bought them yet have they??

They said the same thing about Orville Wright. That he would never get Wilbur off the ground.

Linden Lab is doing what they (think they) need to do in order for
Second Life to have a future. Part of this is recognizing that they
will go through generations of customers, losing and gaining different
populations and evolving the virtual world and their enterprise.

What you have signed up for is an experiment in every sense of
the word, and it should be no surprise that fundamentally,
your particular customer experience and presence is considered
completely expendible. It would only be a problem for them if
certain segments disappeared overnight without replacement,
and managing that is what they need to be all about while aggressively
persuing the future, lest they risk losing all credibilty; a re-launch may
not be feasible.

Lately they have improved corporate communications, implemented
policies to help sustain mainland values (not talking L$/acre here,
directly) for an important segment of base customers, and seem
more coherent and focused than in the past.

At this moment, it's fairly obvious where they are headed,
the nature of their new target audience, how they expect
to deal with the emerging competition, and some details
of their generational transition strategies.

When I started in 2006, things were different than they were the
year before, and very different from the ancient beta days.
In 2008 things on the grid were very different from 2006.
Soon things will be even more different than ever before.

I think I am likely to be a casuality of the future, since I despise
their identity verification and managment plans, don't like the idea
of kids on the grid, and have other problems with their vision.
But I am not surprised at the directions they are moving in
or their insightful analysis of that market segment as a target.

The question "Does LL care about us?" has both a Yes and a NO answer.

I'm a graphic designer. I make pretty pictures.

I leave predicting marketing trends and devising business strategies to the suits who specialize in the field.

As someone else said, if SL is so intolerable, leave.

That is where your power lies.
