I assumed 2Ks motivation was actually more than just simple trolling.

Since this asking for "Critics" for a club build could easily be seen as an advertisement for said club.

But instead of taking the Rules-lawyer "Advertisements are not allowed" approach he played his "humor" game.
I kinda figured it was an expression of the opinion that all clubs sight-unseen suck. Sort of a "Just what we need, yet another club littering the landscape" but in fewer words. But maybe I just read that into it cuz that's how I feel. I still find a wee bit of hypocrisy the way some folks have wholesale discounted another person's opinion just cuz they don't like it.

SLU?

SLU? I typed that into search in SL and the top suggestion was the No Limits Brothel. There were two hits saying SL University but they had almost no traffic

SL Universe. It's not *on* this forums. It's a whole other site run by residents. From what you've said, I think you'll like it.

yeah that target audience. 2k clearly has access. ALL residents would be that community I talk about getting to know. Some are nice people, some aren't. The over reaction showed a lack of understanding that community. (as did the title)
Whatever.

When I read the original post of this thread, I immediately thought: "What a great PR stunt to get FREE marketing exposure for a new business. Brilliant little piece of viral advertising."

But, suddenly!

The OPer freaks out at responses. Not a wise marketing move. If you post, you gotta roll with the punches. Plus, many of the veteran posters get plenty of respect from lurkers like myself and some even have fans. (I love you, Brenda C. I want to have your babies!) Ninety-nine percent of the time their comments are spot on. I don't know the OPer from...well, Opie, so I'm trusting their thoughts and opinions more.

As a rule in PR promotion and viral forum postings, if you don't like a smart-ass remark, let...it...go. Yes, some people write crap. But, again, let...it...go.

If you're truly trying to build some PR, you blew a great opportunity. If you weren't, you blew a great opportunity. It held huge promise for bringing AVs to your club and then spreading the word about how cool it is/going to be. As for me, I will avoid it and not offer my insightful comments, even though I am the (humble) Rockin' Master of Club Criticismâ„¢.

Wow Rocky, loved this answer...

I'm not really arguing with anyone here on this, but just an interesting phenomenon I've noticed is that when someone posts something obnoxious, the entire forum takes the blame but the opposite isn't true. For example, in this thread, 2k's post, while probably meant as a joke, was pretty obnoxious, and it upset some people. But a LOT of people, myself included, offered to help. Even those that didn't offer to go to her club gave advice on what to include and what to avoid. All of a sudden, though, a few people decided it was time to go to war with the ebol clique. Many of the people in the alleged clique were trying to help, though. It was basically 2k acting like a dope, the OP overreacting, and then all hell breaking loose.

I feel like if you are going to condemn people who post a lot based on a few people's posts, then you should give them equal credit when they do something right, and that doesn't happen. It's "Oooooooh! Evil clique is picking on meh!" And then a bunch of posters jump on board and point fingers. Where are you people when regular posters are trying to help someone? I, for one, don't want to be held responsible for what 2k says. I don't tell him what to post and he's never told me what to post. But if you are going to take a 2k post and say that it's representative of some sort of mob mentality, then at least give me credit when someone does something positive.

As for Phil's argument, I think I see his point, but I just don't fully agree. I think that this forum, just like any other internet forum has it's own personality and there is a certain ettiquette that isn't mandatory, but which is helpful to follow, and I think that has been put in place by the people who post here. Like it or not, we aren't heavily moderated, so the way we interact with one another has largely been developed by the members who post the most. I also think that things ahve been pretty loose around here with moderation and that to some extent, that's ok. I think he is right, however, in that this forum has a purpose of helping people, and that they should not have to wait a few weeks before posting just to figure out how to word their question. They should be able to just show up, post a question, get an answer and then leave, stick around, or do whatever they want. We're different than purely social forums because of that purpose.

It's true. I kidnapped his dog and pointed a gun at it until he posted. Bummer. It was the perfect crime until just now.

11 pages of crap.

Seriously people, GET THE HINT and quit posting. Gawd.

Where are the mods anyway? Do these forums even have any?

If posing a question in a forum designated for answers and helping fellow residents is also asking for ridicule, speculation and insults, why are we so quick to blame the OP, if their question and/or request was legitimate?

I don't see how, by asking a question, people should just expect to be treated as a lower form. And again, why are we quick to blame the OP, when it is clearly the few "bad eggs" that are fault for setting this "etiquette"?

The 2nd post was a bait. They knew that this forum could go one of two ways with their response, and let the chips fall where they may lay. Now, the OP could have handled the situation better .... or they could have handled it the way they did. Again, the 2nd poster knew this, and and responded accordingly. It wasn't necessary. Albeit, I share the same type of humor, however, one has to learn the proper time and place for such antics. I'm sure many of you would agree with one another that this entire forum IS just that time and place, and again, that is not the OP's fault. That is your own, for setting that tone.

If people should be expected to lurk in a forum designated for resident questions and answers, before actually posting a question and getting help, then we have failed as a community. Also, I have a feeling that we'd lose a lot of people coming here for help, leaving this forum to die out (except as a general chat forum for the regulars). Again, look at yourself to blame if you feel otherwise, or if you can justify the way things currently are in these forums.

The 2nd poster, however, should have been mature enough to not test the waters and post useless information. I care little for random useless information.

Indeed, I am still seeking critiques. The club currently loads in about 10-30 seconds (depending on SL lag) which is amazingly fast considering the amount of items inside.

However, I don't want any critics from this thread to message me.

Why? Because you've all spammed up 11 pages simply due to the fact that you didn't wanna go back to the forums click "New Topic" and make your own. Instead, you're trying to prove yourself right by saying whatever it is you're saying. Maybe you're trying to say that I was in the right, maybe that 2nd poster was in the right. Maybe you're telling others to quit posting.

In either case, you're only making it worse. I've reported several posts here each time telling the mod to lock this topic. Let's hope there's a mod for this forum so this disgrace and trash can be closed for good.

Requesting the mod would have been wiser. If I were the mod, "telling" me to do it would ensure it is kept open - provided that there is nothing really bad in it.

If I'm not mistaken, you abandoned the thread very early on. Since then, it's been a discussion about the forum itself - a perfectly valid continuation for an abandoned thread.

See what, Dekka? I said that the OP overreacted ages ago. We haven't been discussing that.

You can abuse report your own thread and ask that the Mod close it.

It is a fairly common thing.

LOL,

This thread has been largely about how Phil feels about things since fairly early on.

The Original Poster hasn't mattered nearly as much

Bella. The best thing to do with Colette is put her on your ignore list. She's a troll. Her pleasure is to keep injecting little bits of poison into threads - stirring things up all the time. She ignores anything you say that she can't refute, and she picks on little bits to twist and invent, and injects more poison with them. I have her on ignore so I only see bits that people quote, but you can see what I mean in this thread, where she invented that Phil derailed the thread, knowing full well that it was derailed long before I entered it, and that I merely responded to an off-topic (derailed) idea. I guess she figured that nobody is going to go back and check, and that I wouldn't see what she wrote, so I was unlikely to embarrass her with the truth.

She never admits to even being mistaken, let alone wrong. She ignores those parts and adds more poison. It's what she does in this forum. Plenty of people here know it. She doesn't add anything to discussions, and she doesn't let go until she's had her fill, so I suggest putting her on your ignore list.
