Since I can't get my partner to come over and tell me what she thinks, would someone mind coming and rating my club in progress? =p

Tell me everything you honestly think about the CURRENT objects, not about anything still in the Default textures and empty spaces (unless the empty space looks good). The walls aren't perfectly aligned yet as I'll be fussing with that on sight once it's complete.

This club will be the SIM's centerpeice so it must be perfect.

Not really wanting to pay someone for this so I didn't put it under Services/Help Wanted, as surely this isn't a job.. Just some advice =)

IM in-game please.

Not reading this thread no more. "It sucks" is not a joke, nor is it a valid critique. Message ingame if you'd like to come check it out. Otherwise, spam this thread at leisure or actually go find something to do. I really don't care. I've better things to do than read this junk.

I've no idea who you are.
You've no idea who I am.

Why would you post random crap on my thread? Seriously, bug off - You didn't even bother to IM me ingame to see it.

Then delete your message.

I'm looking for SERIOUS Critics. Not someone who's just another jester.

Again, anyone willing feel free to message me ingame. I find it hard enough to get anyone to critique anything I do and having all these random postings already really won't help me.

Uhm...... if you are getting that testy over a throwawy wisecrack, you may not be too happy if some actual negative criticism is given you. It's happened here before.

I don't care if the CRITIQUES are negative. I said be honest but all this babbling is really getting on my nerves.

I'm not posting on this thread anymore. I tried to be nice in my OP, and I tried making sense in my second post but this third post when none of you have even seen my club nor asked about it is the last bit. I don't have time to run in circles just because 2k thinks 'it sucks' it a joke. I don't like jokes, I never have and I never will.

Jokes aren't part of a useful critique. I could get more from a bot.

I just read your post in the emotional thread and have a better insight. I'm sorry if it appeared I was berating you.

*That was an excellent post by the way.

I can't get in to IM you, but for me and maybe most other people, the best clubs are not those that have a lot of flashing lights and laggy scripts running and detracting from the experience. The best ones have good DJ's and good music and a lot of people stepping out and socializing (not camping). The best clubs are to show off the avs, not the clubs. A big empty room would serve for that.

But you are asking about the build. An interesting atmosphere couldn't hurt. If you put it in your picks, I'll try to look at it when I can get in. I'm no expert though, just someone who wouldn't mind having a nice place to dance and be silly without being disoriented and without having to put up with the screen filling chat gestures.

If you send me a landmark in-world, I'll be happy to come take a look. I'll be on some this evening, I think, but if not, I'll take a good look tomorrow.

So you have no problem bothering us here in the forum with this shit, but you do have a problem checking back here for replies? We have to respond to this spam by going inworld and checking out your club? And we convey criticism how? By telepathy? Spot light? Big Giant Laser? Sorry, you've not given me any reason at all to bother visiting your "club" in world, and I've no interest in offering you free advice. I, too, have better things to do than read this junk.

In the future, when you ask a group of residents for feedback, don't piss on their front porch in the process. Just sayin.

Hello hello, if you'll send me a lm in world, I'll take a swing by. I'm not the best builder in the world, but maybe I can lend at least a point of view on your build. I'll be on tomorrow evening and can check it out. If you want to post some pictures of it here http://slcontentcreators.ning.com/ this is a spot I made for any content creators in SL to get feedback on works in progress, finished works and share resources. Best of luck to you.

A beautiful building and interior contribute to the overall atmosphere of any venue, however, it is the staff and management who are ultimately responsible for the enjoyment of patrons. Since the owner seems lacking in a sense of humor and is rude to those who may ultimately become customers, the atmosphere at the new club would suffer because of it. For this reason my review says Skip It.

When a good PR stunt goes horribly, horribly wrong
08-21-2008 07:55
When I read the original post of this thread, I immediately thought: "What a great PR stunt to get FREE marketing exposure for a new business. Brilliant little piece of viral advertising."

But, suddenly!

The OPer freaks out at responses. Not a wise marketing move. If you post, you gotta roll with the punches. Plus, many of the veteran posters get plenty of respect from lurkers like myself and some even have fans. (I love you, Brenda C. I want to have your babies!) Ninety-nine percent of the time their comments are spot on. I don't know the OPer from...well, Opie, so I'm trusting their thoughts and opinions more.

As a rule in PR promotion and viral forum postings, if you don't like a smart-ass remark, let...it...go. Yes, some people write crap. But, again, let...it...go.

If you're truly trying to build some PR, you blew a great opportunity. If you weren't, you blew a great opportunity. It held huge promise for bringing AVs to your club and then spreading the word about how cool it is/going to be. As for me, I will avoid it and not offer my insightful comments, even though I am the (humble) Rockin' Master of Club Criticism™.

To the OP ... I cannot visit in world atm as I am at work. I would be willing to visit when I get the chance.

My observations so far ...

What has already been said about basic format, ie good music and a simple atmosphere. I also detest chat spamming, it interrupts local chat and drives people into IM to get conversation. The clubs I enjoy most are those without flashy lights and massive lag. Indeed one I enjoy is almost just a shed, but the warmth and chat are great.

Secondly, the manner in which this thread is going, only endorses my opinions derived from another thread, mentioned by Brenda I think. That is, some of you guys should get a life, you seem to want to own this forum, and have created a clique which puts people like myself (and the OP) off wanting to return.

Personally, I couldn't care tuppence, all your fancy wordcraft and posting skills to raise a joke at someone else's expense is wasted on me. Intelligent wit is one thing, what I am seeing is schoolboy drivel.

To the OP,

Send me a LM in world. When I have time I will be happy to critique your build and texture quality and the overall design and offer any advice I can. As to whether it will make a good club, that can only be determined once you are open for business.

no build makes a club. people do and if one cannot accept that the club will fail. also having a club appear everytime one turns around also wont help.

to paraphrase..... "It's the people stupid!"

Why on earth would you think that? Because one guy in your thread got out of line and was resoundly knocked back into place by everyone there? You're going to get all snarky and say there's a clique and we're all bad people - but we're the ones who defended you in that thread? How does that make any sense?

The OP here got one wise ass crack and multiple offers for help. I offered to come out to her club and give her an honest critique, but she couldn't be bothered to send me a LM when I asked for it. If she sends it, I'll go check it out, but she was to busy being mortally offended to actually read all of the offers for help.

It's not too much to ask that people are polite when they are asking for help. I don't even care if they respect the people who are offering help or answers. That doesn't make for any clique. Think of the other forum you post on. What happens there when someone new to the forum shows up and is rude and nasty to the people there. You think we're bad over here? They'll eat him for lunch at SLU. (That's one of the things I love about SLU :) )

What a great way to get traffic and plug your club!

The thing about SL is everyone has their own idea of what it a good build and what sucks.

Just do what feels good, you will find there are people out there that will like it and some who wont.

I will say this, don't make your TP point half way across the sim from your club. I HATE THAT.

I also hate being TPed into a place for say a live music show and end up smack dab in the middle of their mall..... I have 0 patience and if I have to figure out where to go Im just not.. I don't care who is playing.
