Your definition of sinking needs work too. Since you don't want me "adding" anything to your sentences I'll just stop using them for now and go back to the basics. It is *common* etiquette that a new user to a forum lurk for a period of time and learn the local community's ways. Had the OP simply taken this *common courtesy* step, all of this might have been avoided. That fact is not going anywhere.
Lurking for a while before posting is neither common sense, nor common courtesy, and isn't something that is even suggested in forums. You have a question you need an answer for? You're in the right forum for its topic? Ask it.

Who is there here to show the "common courtesy" of lurking a while before posting to? You? Me? The regulars? There isn't anyone here. And there is no such "common courtesy" in any forum. You don't know much about the web, do you?

Phil simply enjoys having the last word, afterall his bots dont care:)
And neither do I ;)

But to reply to Colette's lies...

I haven't lambasted anyone in this thread. I've lambasted one suggetion in this thread - that of lurking a while before posting.

I do hope that helps you to undestand what you read, Colette - but I don't think you have it in you.

Incidentally, I didn't derail the thread. It was derailed by others, including the one who suggested lurking before posting. It was derailed long before I entered it. If you don't think so, Colette, post numbers or it didn't happen.

[Update]
I've lambasted the idea that I mentioned above, and now I've responded to Colette's lies by lambasting her.

It was me that first suggested in this thread that lurking in this forum was a good idea. Its not required, of course, it is and always has been a suggestion, under what is known as 'netiquette' to prevent foot-in-mouth syndrome.
There is no such netiquette, Imogen. If you've ever seen something like you described in any forum, then you've seen a rarity. It simply isn't the norm, and it simply is *not* netiquette or etiquette, or any such thing.

From: Imogen Saltair
And as I first said... the forum is what it is. You may believe that it shouldn't be a community, but like it or not, it is.
This forum isn't a community at all. There are individuals in it who may feel to be part of a community, but it isn't one. It may even feel like a forum home for some people, but that doesn't make a comminuty either. The forum cartel is much more of a community, but that doesn't have anything to do with the forum.

If I just didn't come back from the movies and already had my fill of popcorn for the day, I'd make more. C'mon kids. Hasn't the circle been traversed enough on this one?

This is for Colette, who you quoted...

No Colette. I did call you a liar by replying to your lies. I did that because you lied. You see, surprising as it may seem to you, I really do believe that you have something up top, and you know exactly what you are writing when you troll. I fully believe that you knew I didn't derail the thread, and that it was derailed long before i came into it. I also fully believe that you know I didn't lambast anyone in this thread - until you. So I fully believe that your trolling consisted of lies this time; i.e. you knew you weren't telling the truth.

Opinions on clubs:

Do NOT get a microphone that repeats everything you say.
Do NOT scream in all capital letters all the time.
Do NOT spam with ASCII art in chat.
Do NOT spam your loyal customers with contests, giveaways, whatever, 4 times a day in Group Notices. Once or twice a week is plenty. Even that is sort of stretching it for me, but I'm a recluse. What I'd love to see is a club that has a variety of music on specific days of the week (e.g. Monday is Metal, Tuesdays is Jazz, Wednesday is 80's Night, or whatever.) Publish the schedule on a texture, slap it up on the wall of the club, and stick to it. Advertise in Events. But for God's sake, avoid multiple Group Notices every single freakin day.

Honestly, the build is the last thing I look at when entering a club. If the people are halfway fun, I'll stay. But if the music stinks and the DJ is an annoying git, I'm out of there.

Just one girl's L$2. :)

/me claps bravo!!

I have left one group from a club I enjoy visiting because every few HOURS they sent out not one but 2 alerts for contests!!!

I hate -hate- hate that acsii spam. Do you people realize when I have my window smaller it looks like total crap!

double typo sucketh
double typo sucketh

Actually caps do not bother me ..... I know I'm weird. /me shrugs

Let me add, it is IMPORTANT to greet everyone who enters your club, and I do not mean a spam of welcome to our club notecard with rules etc...

If someone is not made to feel welcome then they won't be back. I mean a welcome to all new comers is good and it says sorry I was afk or something, but I do appreciate you being here and welcome!

Its rather sad that even an admission of guilt on your part has to begin with the word "No"

I'm not new to the internet, I've been involved in forums before, I understand there is always a clique and the clique always deny there is one. But, I haven't seen the level of unnecessary nastiness I've seen on these forums.

Oh wow.

This is quite a claim. While I was mainly joking. This is still quite a claim. Sounds like you must be used to some very heavily moderated forums.

Not a claim, just my point of view, based on my personal experience with forums.

My personal experience is quite different then ---

Of forums with light moderation these forums are pretty typical.

Many more heavily moderated sites even are "nastier" than this one.

While other sites of similar levels of moderation make this forum look like Disneyland.

You are perfectly free to believe that, but it doesn't make you right.

I've been involved in forums since 1998, I've had my own popular forum since 2000 and I've moderated in others from time to time, and I can assure everyone here that there is no netiquette or etiquette about lurking before posting. If lurking before posting is desired by a forum anywhere, it's extemely rare, and has nothing whatsoever to do with netiquette.

It's perfectly simple. If you have something to say, or a question to ask, and you're in the right forum for it, write the post. Getting used to the feel of a forum is not necesssary, not required, and not even desired by forums. It's just the opposite. On the whole, forums want more users, and they want people to post rather than lurk.

The idea of watching a while before getting involved in a community is valid but, on the whole, forums are not communities like that, and this one definitely isn't. This one is specifically for people to ask questions right off the bat. Getting used to the place before posting is neither required nor desired here. If anyone doesn't agree, ask LL. They'll tell you that lurking before posting isn't required or desired.

Why on earth the idea of lurking before posting was even brought up in this thread (Imogen) is beyond me. Take a look at the OP's record - 300+ posts. It's just a little late to suggest lurking before posting ;)

Bella. The best thing to do with Colette is put her on your ignore list. She's a troll. Her pleasure is to keep injecting little bits of poison into threads - stirring things up all the time. She ignores anything you say that she can't refute, and she picks on little bits to twist and invent, and injects more poison with them. I have her on ignore so I only see bits that people quote, but you can see what I mean in this thread, where she invented that Phil derailed the thread, knowing full well that it was derailed long before I entered it, and that I merely responded to an off-topic (derailed) idea. I guess she figured that nobody is going to go back and check, and that I wouldn't see what she wrote, so I was unlikely to embarrass her with the truth.

She never admits to even being mistaken, let alone wrong. She ignores those parts and adds more poison. It's what she does in this forum. Plenty of people here know it. She doesn't add anything to discussions, and she doesn't let go until she's had her fill, so I suggest putting her on your ignore list.

I don't see how, by asking a question, people should just expect to be treated as a lower form.
Allow me a gross exaggeration, and maybe the root mechanism can be understood. Assume for a minute time travel is possible and a new user of it goes back to ancient Rome. Immediately upon arrival they stop the first passerby and ask, "Is my kilt on straight?"

It's a "simple question". Wouldn't want the fashion police after us. Except in this highly contrived example, the person would be put to death as a spy. Costly mistake. Had they just wandered around a bit they might have found a clothier with a sign in the window that said "Togas - Half off".

While I probably should apologize for that bad pun, I won't apologize for advising the OP should "lurk-moar". I was actually the second person to do so. Granted this forum is not a matter of life and death, but the when-in-Rome principle holds. I hold that the easiest way to pick up local customs is thru observation. It would have taken less time observing the forum than was asked of other people to come look at something.
