*Beam* It makes me really happy to hear that. :-) Sometimes as a Maker Of Stuff, it's too easy to fixate on all the flaws and imperfections. It always makes my day when someone says something nice about my work!

BTW, I'm working on v1.5 as we speak, with a stack of new animations and sound effects and so on all included. (Anyone who has the older version will be entitled to a free upgrade.) If you've joined the store group, you'll get a notice letting you know when the upgrade's ready to go. If you like my kitties, I think the "roll around on the floor purring ecstatically" animation I've just made for the new version will be something you'll probably want. :-)

Oh yes! I want that animation! That is seriously what makes your kitties so great. The animations!

sadly, I am pretty close to grouped out (that 25 group limit is a pain) ... but I'll try.

Tooter and claxton both sound somewhat like dutch synonyms for car horn. (toeter, claxon)
The first thing i made in SL was a t-shirt that said Honk if you dig Tooter.
I also like the hillbilly ring the name has to it. No idea why.

'Damanios' is chosen from my student days when i geeked along playing AD&D with friends. I used it on the internet as it was unique wherever i needed to create an account. So i did the same for SL.
It turned out to be a hassle as:
1. people think i'm Greek, while i'm not
2. 9 out of 10 times it's misspelled as damianos
3. It's completely unpronounceable by most people (it's dah-MAA-nee-os)

I sadly fall into the 'trout' category of ungoogled last names too. Being from europe and not that familiar with scientology, i chose the last name 'thetan' as i thought it sounding nicely with 'damanios'. Later to discover it's meaning and connection with scientology.

But after 3.5 years of use in SL, i'm comfortable with it now. ;)

This thread has been done b4 but I suppose it's a good topic

Snakekiss is my Kunoichi Ninjutsu ' female Ninja' name given to me by a venerable japanese sensei and I now use it for gaming as a female player in many different virtual worlds, it derives from the 'kiss of snake... deadly, silent, fast and erotic'... I added the Noir for LL because of the two name system... because my fave color is black... and my father was French.... black in french is Noir.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_cappella =)

I wanted DeCuir as my last name and was picking back when they hadn't updated the last name list in 6 months. I like names with a bit of alliteration and rhythm so the first name needed to be either 2 syllables with a Strong/Weak or Strong/Strong or 3 syllables Weak/Strong/Weak or Strong/Strong/Weak. I went through the standard bevvy of Catherine, Charlotte, etc and couldn't find a single name from semi standard baby names that fit the profile so I turned to musical terms. Capella fit like a charm. Alliterative, S/S/W so I ran with it.

When I picked out my name, my boyfriend had already made an AV with the last name of "Slade." I figured it was kind of an earthy, rock-sounding last name, so I needed a similar first name. A quick Google search for "Baby names, rock, stone" pulled up a few options. Among them was "Eben."

Being a huge Superman fan, I recognized Eben (Gaelic for "stone";) as the name of Superman's dad in the 1950s TV series. That connection got me to thinking about the Teen Titans villain Slade. The earthiness and comic book connections appealed to my interests, so I ran with it.

I'm always fascinated by threads like these.

Here's my story: My internet handle for Duranie purposes is Cyanide Fish. It's from a page in the 1993 tourbook, a weird cut-and-paste thing that Nick Rhodes put together. When Duran Duran announced they'd be playing a show in Second Life (which we're still waiting for . . .) I signed up and I wanted to keep my usual handle so the Duranies I knew from the message boards would recognize me. However, "Fish" wasn't an option as a surname, so I gave myself the first name "CyFishy" and settled on the surname "Traveler" because I figured that was pretty much what I'd be doing in Second Life--wandering this strange new world and seeing what there was to see.

DJs don't seem to have too much trouble with it, though DJ Lysander Lemuria once wondered if it was perhaps pronounced Sigh-Fie-Shy. (Probably doesn't help that my darling Miles Montgolfier likes to call me Cy-Fi.)

Interestingly, since my Second Life dealings have become less Duranie-based, I find myself using CyFishy to designate my SL life and CyanideFish for my Duranie life. Funny how that works.

Yrrek my RL name backwards. Im a clockmaker in RL & SL, and Gran seemed to flow well. Sounds a bit Scottish and goes along well with my profession. It is pronounced "Year - ick" btw.

Reminds me of my first ever online nick back in the early 90s....ardnhacselya. It's Alexandra backwards with added flavour! ;)

Banking Laws - joke name, originally intended only as an 'av bank'

My other avs, I picked first names I liked, and chose a last name that fit. One has a dutch name, so I chose a dutch/prussian last name. The other one felt very callifornia so I took Portola - after Portola Valley.

Not to rain on your parade, but Lunasea could be pronounced lunacy and give you a new meaning.

Well, then I like it even more! Nuttiness runs in my family! And it still relates to the moon, you know, it's phases, tides, etc. so I'm still back where I started from...

I selected the name Angelique for Three reasons,
A; it's the name of a Stylish, and refined, Yet Incredibly Powerful Woman whom i have always used as a Role model.

B; It's French, and so am I.

C; The short form is "Angel" which i have always considered something of a Joke Given my personal tastes, experiences, and temperment.

Angel :p

Soen is the village my Norwegian grandmother came from (I use it as a general roleplaying name), and Eber sounded vaguely Germanic to round out the rest of my heritage. I found out later that Eber was a Biblical figure and that Paul Eber was a 16th century German theologian and contemporary of Martin Luther. This neatly compliments my informal study of religion, so this is also a nice bank shot as well.

And Eber is the German word for....hog...as in, male pig. :D But also a normal German surname, so no need to panic yet.

Me, in February of 2006
"Well, I'll check this out for a couple weeks. No biggie."

Oops.

Mari

hehe, my story is the same as yours and Travis's. I figured I'd just muck about in the beta for a few hours because I was bored one day and I'd been waiting to check out SL ever since I first heard about it (back when it was still called Linden World). I had no idea I'd still be here all this time later and I didn't put any thought into it. I'm bad that way. It's also why I have the lamest store name in the SL universe, and sell such creatively named products as my "male 1" and "hairy male" skins. :o

Yeah, I'm just not sure how you derive 'Linda' from all that though...

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I always have a hard time coming up with names for things, even generic use account names on forums. But with Second Life, it was even more difficult...

My avatar in SL is direct reference to a character I created many, many years ago when I was little. I'm sure you know the kind: this awesome person you dream up who is more or less based off of yourself. He goes on all these adventures and does these amazing things... yeah... that kind. Over time, I fleshed out and developed the character quite a bit, far beyond the self-insert stage of a ten year old. But even, then I could never settle upon a name for him that felt right. Jump forward in time to when I got my hands on the Super Nintendo game Final Fantasy III. While playing through, one of the game's colorful translations jumped out at me. The staple recovery item known throughout the series as 'Phoenix Down' had been translated to 'Fenix Down' instead. I'm not sure why, but for whatever reason, that name hit a note with me and Fenix finally, at long last, got his name.

Now enter Second Life. When I learned about it, I immediately knew my representation in this fantastical world was going to be my old character - it just seemed appropriate considering his origins. But even then, years later, he still didn't have a surname. I don't mind saying that I'm quite attached to this character, after keeping him all these years, so deciding on a permanent last name for him (even for something like SL) was difficult. Surprisingly, one of the last names on the list jumped out at me much like the first name did long ago, 'Eldritch.' It fit. I immediately began applying to SL with this name but had to stop half way through the registration process and come back later. But when I did, I was dismayed to find that my name had been seemingly snatched up in the two days I had stalled. I was shocked at my apparent bad luck and was about to go with my second choice of 'Perth' when I discovered an e-mail sitting in my inbox from LL. As it turned out, they had recorded my initial application attempt and reserved my original name for a week or two. Without delay I reactivated the session and here I am today.

And that's my story.
