From: Lexxi Gynoid I have never, in my real life as an American (and in person), meet anyone named Travis. Though there were at least two "Trey" at my school. haha - and I've never seen anyone outside of the US with that name I think Travis is much more common of a name down South, honestly. Edited to add: I just looked up Travis on Wikipedia, for the first time. It says: Travis is a popular *English* given name. Who knew?

From: Oryx Tempel With regards to spelling (Cocoanut mentioned it above...) 90% of the time I end up as "Onyx." I'm used to it now. And lots of people just leave out the "x" entirely, so I end up as "Ory." And SOME people leave off the "ryx" and just call me "O." LOL! I never knew I'd get 3 nicknames out of a 4 letter word. That's a lot! I go by Sally, Sal, or silly

I've known plenty of Travis's.. just where you live decides the name theme, I think.
In my case.. Okay, the pronunciation of the name is my forum title. Firstly, it's my RL nickname in another language. Yeah, my RL nickname is Red, so Raudf is my hashing of the Icelandic female form of the color 'red'. Sadly, my keyboard could not handle the last proper letter of the word, which is the combination of both the d and the f. As for Fox, well, I was playing a Kitsune in a World of Darkness Mush, so....
I wind up being called Raud... because people either can't or won't see the f on the end.

Like a few others here I just kept trying different names until I found something that was available. For a while I wished that I had thought it through a little better (apparently Gabby is actually more of a woman's name as I've been told a few times in world, lol.) I suppose if I ever want to explore my feminine side I won't need an alt!
Handrick was just a name that I though went well with Gabby and over time I have become at peace with my name, I think it suits my avatar quite well and would not change it now even if I could.

Chellonia is just an offshoot of my real name, Michelle, which I've used before in games. It sounds vaguely royal so Regent was chosen from the list of surnames. I've since found out that Chelonia (with one L) is a taxonomic group for tortoises! LOL. Who knew?
And DJs never know how to pronounce it.

Elora was the baby in Willow - one of my favorite movies. I use that name as a username in various other places online. It's also kind of close to my real name, my Av is kind of an elevated version of myself (only younger and thinner - but esentially darn similar).
Lunasea, well I had to pick from that awful group of last names they give you. Most suck but this one had a lyrical quality to it which I liked with Elora, the alliteration of the "L" sound was nice and the idea of an ocean on the moon was appealing and dreamy.

Well, I popped a few names around in my head, and Trevor seemed to work. At that point, of the surnames available, Langdon seemed to roll off the tongue best in combination. I get Trev as a nickname often. For my alt, I put more thought into it and went with a silly name, Friggin Mortal. DancesWithRobots.....great story behind that

Lorelei is my real first name. It is the German story of the siren. The similar story in Russian is of the Rusalka. And Writer because I joined after selling my first novel, which is science fiction and has SL-like elements. Of course now I'm an SL addict and building and designing my brains out. Actually, it makes for a great break after a day spent editing the old book or working on the new!

From: Travis Lambert Like Perse, my first week in SL was primarily just curiosity. I never dreamed I'd actually stay, or how my name choice would stick with me for years to come. I am really glad that I decided to create a new account with a better name. My first choice was truly awful because I didn't take this place seriously at all. My how that has changed. I sometimes see people that are quite well established here, that have names that to my senses seem pretty silly ... and I think ... I wonder if they had the chance to do it again whether they might have chosen a different name. Of course, my name may seem silly to some. For me, there was a clear moment of snowcrash - of taking the blue pill - an epiphany where I realized just how important Second Life was to become. At that moment I knew that I had to create an identity by design, not whim. A name like CutieBooty Sodacracker wasn't going to cut it (no, that was not my former name!) I have always found last names in SL to be interesting. Not so much for why people chose them, but for how attached to them they eventually become. The least personal part of your avatar is your choice for last name. Yet I see stores all the time bearing last names. I see people greeting each other as brother or sister when they share the same last name. I think it's wonderful, although it feels arbitrary and frustrating to be presented with a list of surnames when you first join. I chose my own last name, Milk, because it seemed interesting and sweet to me. There have only ever been 47 Milks ever in SL, and there are only a few that are currently active residents. I know these few very well, and we are like family. My first home was called the "Isle of Milk" and I had an aqueduct filled with milk (a lactoduct?) that overflowed into a milk pool, and turned a milk wheel that powered a giant lighthouse. My land group is still called the Milk Maidens. So I have grown quite attached to my own last name, and this fascinates me.

When I first came into SL almost a year ago now, I had no idea that many people had very interesting and intriguing names, just that for some reason we did not use our own. So, with that in mind, I had no idea what to use as a name. Then I thought about my own RL interests, and as I have for many, many years been researching my family history I decided to go with something connected with that.
Winchendon is actually a place where my ancestors on my father's side lived for about 200 years or more. It is also an old Anglo Saxon name (which makes it an interesting name to me anyway).
Dickins is the surname of my ancestors way back on my mother's side and was the only relevant family name I recognised from those supplied by the Lindens, so in a way my SL name is in part due to my RL heritage via both my parents!
Most people here in SL call me Winch or Win and I gather from my American friends that my first name appears to be a little difficult for some reason. I can be called Winch-Hen-Dun; Whine-En-Dn; Winchend-On; and all sorts of other ways. So, Winch or Win it is if anyone prefers to say that, I really dont mind lol.
As to my surname here, I should be very rich for the number of references to "Are you related to the famous author Charles Dickens"?
