So I was just sitting here thinking about people's names. There are alot of unique/crazy names that when I see them..I honestly wonder what were they thinking behind that name lol.
So..if it doesn't reveal too much personal information, I was just wondering why you are named what you are he he. What possessed you to choose what you chose and what does it mean?

My name (which is cursed for ALL djs to not say right *it's said like "sigh" not "say" :p ) came from a game called Fatal Frame 2, my most favorite game. Sae was the name of the ghost of a young girl that was sacrificed in a crazy ritual.
http://www.fatalframe2.com/fatalFrame2/index2.html

:o And honestly, I couldn't tell you WHY I chose the name. Stupid newb decisions  .

~Michael Bigwig~

Michael is my real first name.

Bigwig comes from the book Watership Down--one of the main characters (rabbits) in the story is named Bigwig. A lot of people think my last name is a 'cocky' choice...but it has nothing to do with that.

On a side note--I named my first group 'Owsla.'

:)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

There are certainly some great and crqzy names out there. Slightly off topic, what happens when the Lindens deem your name 'inappropriate', as they sometimes do according the Police Blotter? Do you get to change or do you have to retire that alt.

I know one guy who'd called himself 'Wanker .....'

I wonder about some of those names too.... some of em are just way out there....

Mine is pretty simple.....I chose my cat's name.....and she's named for Milla Jovavich who is one of my fiance's fave. model/actress'. I think she's pretty cool too so I had no problem naming our cat Milla.....and it sort of sounded cool as an SL handle too. I later learned that 'Milla' means 'to speak' or something of that nature, in Greek. The last name just sounded good with the first. lol

Real first name, last name from someone in my past who was very dear to me. I entered about 20 first names , but none of them felt comfortable. I was actually surprised the combination was available.

Depends on what you plan to use the avatar for, and how badly you want a certain surname, I suppose.

People who think in terms of forum posting accounts tend to go with the silly names that no one would ever give their kid, like "AjAx227 Blake". I mean, how would you say hello to that person in-character? "Hi AjAx227" just sounds so... wrong...

People who are looking for a character that they intend to roleplay with will try a lot harder for a 'normal given name'. But sometimes the name choices are all taken. I wanted to name a new alt character "Molly", and was COMPLETELY unable to find an acceptable surname that had not already had that given name used for it. I finally settled for 'Maire' as her given name, which is the Gaelic equivilent of Molly.

"Ceera" is a name I made up for my roleplaying character in a completely different roleplay environment, years before I came to SL. Sort of a variant on "Sarah". I couldn't pick a surname of my own devising, so she couldn't be "Ceera Darkwynde" here. My friend that I came here to play with had a Japanese surname and personna, so I chose "Murakami" from the available choices, and Ceera as my given name.

Gene loves Jezabel

I added an extra L

No seriously, its a biblical reference, and I added an extra "L" in the hopes I could get people to call me Bell (as bell was already taken).

and for Barbosa, well, I am really Captain Barbosa of the Black Pearl.

When I joined the Starship Titanic forum back in 98 I was on the verge of registering my biker nickname Duke, but decided something a little less grandiose was better for there and just read the Tolkein trilogy. I first registered as Bilbo; I couldn't believe no-one else had nabbed it.
Then crisis! login/password borked and had to reregister. Added 99 as a joke. Second name just picked one that flowed.
Oh, and alts are simply most real sounding names I could find in decreasing choice .. hint LL!!!

lol...I messed up my first name/password also...some how ha ha. I don't even remember what I initially chose ;(

FD was part of another nick somwhere else but it could also stand for "From Dagon" my first alt was Dagon based on which is a part of my legal name. I usually sign my artwork as J.Dagon if I don't use FD now on uploads. But I seldomly upload my art in SL any more then to share with friends. . I always thought if I ran a business it would have the name Dagon it because their law or rule in my state I vaguely recall that require's to have some part of your real name in it..

I tried 10 or 12 first names I wanted with a last name I thought would be easy to remember... and all were taken and I was getting frustrated. I typed in 'Turbo' figuring even most silly names might all be taken as well and it was available. Turbo Streeter was an option and I thought 'turbo-car-car-street-turbo streeter' eh what the hell....

Many are my names in many countries, he said. Mithrandir among the Elves, Tharkun to the Dwarves; Olorin I was in my youth in the West that is forgotten, in the South, Incanus, in the North, Gandalf; to the East I go not.

DaQbet is a variation on the name I used in the game Fate. It was one of those randomly generated names and I just though it looked cool. Of course at the time I chose it for SL I didn’t consider people would actually try to type the capital Q and even worse try to pronounce it in voice. When said in my head DaQbet Kish just had a cool ring to it and I still like its uniqueness. Most of my friends call me DK

I wanted a name that sounded like I could be from anywhere in the world. Dnali is the name of a mountain in Alaska and Anabuki sounded somewhat African or Asian to me and reflects my influences.

I was really surprised to find that my SL JIra Profile shows up in Google! Dnali is better known than my RL name. lol.

Love that book, and that passage, Inc.

In my case, I simply didn't understand how the SL naming conventions worked. First I tried my RL names...but it wouldn't accept my last name and gave me some unacceptable alternatives. After playing around a bit, I couldn't find anything that went with "Lisa", and started running changes on the first name. Lisl, Lynne, Linda...Lindal. That one suggested "Kidd" as a last name, and it sounded right. I never even thought about the fact that it was perilously close to "Linden"...fortunately, nobody's ever accused me of trying to impersonate one of our Resident Gods.

My alt has a much cooler name than me. And now that LL has come out with some really neat surnames, I'm wondering if it's time to create another alt.

My brilliant uncle, Raymond Einhorn, died right before I joined SL. I named myself in his honor and Figtree was the closest last name I could find.

When I signed up, I wanted to use my real (first and last) name. I had no intention at all to hide my identity. Then I found out that this was not the way things work! So then I picked a last name I liked (I hated most of the available last names) and started to think about a first name.

Picking an adjective instead of a noun as a first name resulted in a nice combination without using numbers or deliberate misspelling. I am quite happy with my SL name, but I still think it is a pity I could not use my real name. Everything I create in SL has a copyright coupled to a fantasy identity instead of to my RL self.

Bigwig - ooh, loved Watership Down
Ceera - When I see "AjAXEhandleDIE666" I use the whole name until they tell me otherwise.

I am a Gynoid so I chose Gynoid. I liked the look and sound of "Lexxi"

First name is my own, with an extra "r".

Surname is chosen after one of my favorite writers, Thomas Paine.
