From: Raymond Figtree From: Qie Niangao But if the shiny blank tower thing isn't better than the screens, I'm very open to suggestions. Then I guess I donated my freebie penis for nothing... Perhaps I should have been more specific: I'm "very open to suggestions" about the adfarm thing. But about your penis, Ray... maybe we should take that offline.

This sort of dispute is why builds can't be accomplished by a committee of 100+. If you don't like aspect X, please show the responsible person an alternative; in the case of the screens, I think that would be me. Or un-volunteer me if you'd prefer, you cannot take from me any thing that I will more willingly part withal. How about those beach towels? They are just the wrong shade of blue and they distort the feng-shui of the entire parcel. Down with beach towels says I and all right-thinking people! If you are moved to take personal offense at this, then I have expressed myself poorly; I am discussing the organizational principle, not anyone's beliefs. From: various Add me to the list of people who find our "sky screens" unattractive. In my opinion, they are far worse than the few flying boxes on the other side. I found them distasteful. The site is already set up with pretty specific socializing areas, where people are either sitting or standing. Scenes such as the adfarm can be adequately obscured from view by placing more natural looking, lower profile barriers, such as trees, faux landscaping, etc. closer to our socializing areas.

@ Malachi:
The issue of the screens is significantly different than a mere disagreement over our local decor.
There are plenty of things I don't like in the Hangout property. But that's okay. It's a group thing, and I have no problem accepting that different people have different tastes.
The screens are an entirely different matter due to their size and altitude. They are highly visible from a great distance. In our attempt to shield ourselves from seeing a few floating boxes, we are griefing our neighbors on all sides.
We here on the forums complain endlessly about people who put up massive ugly floating objects on the mainland with no regard for the neighbors. And now the Forum Cartel itself has put up a massive ugly floating object on the mainland with no regard for the neighbors. It is hypocrisy, plain and simple.

a change was afoot

I just went and inspected the parcel now that Qie's tower of shrouding is up. With the aid of another, the screens are down now with just the mighty hedgerow of trees in place. I think it looks good and non-griefy now, contradictions welcome.
To the person who placed the screens, they were deeded to group so I could not return them. The creator seems to have left so I cannot replace them. Please let me know if remuneration is in order; I take sole responsibility.
Also as a note to others who would place things in the future: "share with group" is fine and allows movement, return, etc. Deed to group is more like "throw in trashcan and let just one exist in world".
Please understand that I've not changed my overarching principle, just that Qie obviated this particular issue. I still would graciously accept a call for removal from the role.

As I said before, if most of the group feels the screens are in fact necessary, I will volunteer to help create something less obtrusive.

Wow, since I was the one who rezzed the beach towels on day one, I guess I have really ruffled some feathers here. Feel free to return the towels and umbrella to me and I shall not make another comment on this issue, constructive or otherwise.

From: Qie Niangao I chased one particularly petulant adfarmer all the way to the cloud layer. (God help me, come WindLight... but luckily I've many prims left to burn. And I guess I could always script some particle clouds, if it comes to that.) But if the shiny blank tower thing isn't better than the screens, I'm very open to suggestions. PVP in second life could it be?

I think i have a few ideas sooon it will be time to write again and then comes the usual plea for questions (or something like that) I actually kinda well its a lot of work to write all the crap .. lol looking like crabs ad farming screens and uh other broadly offensive err umm oi (stuck)

Personal thanks to Qie for solving the adfarm problem with his awesome tower. /gives the coin operated boy a well-deserved silver dollar.

ad farm?
10-07-2007 19:18
Didnt notice it either. Nor did I notice the giant deflection screens placed to disguise their existance. Regardless of this fact, have we extended our hand in friendship to this ad farmer? Perhaps if we treated them with kindness and accepted them into our little enclave they would lower the offending objects in the spirit of brotherhood. They are human as well, and would most assuredly take the gesture to heart, perhaps even giving us that land for free. MUAHAHAHAHAHAA, and if my grandmother had wheels, every kid in town would want to ride her!! Why arnt we finding out where they live, making alts, and GRIEFING THE HELL OUT OF THEM???? Wait... I didnt say that, I was... compelled... by voices in my head or something.
