Hmm...the old "short discrimination" subject.

Well, i was a shortie too, but i decided to 'grow up'.
I still have my shorter me, but don't use it anymore.
Although i'm not full height (3/4), people now ignore me while i'm shopping.

I don't care what/who you are inworld. It's your imagination.

It's a shame some don't feel the same way.

silly questions but... are those real measurement scales?

(I know some places are obviously different than the basic metric and standard)

for instance, first time I heard someone from England say a weight measurement I was like huh? Stones?

heh

My avatar is about 5'9" and slender. I consider it realistic ... or at least I tried. ;)

I've had some snide comments about being a child avatar, which I choose to totally ignore while continuing with the conversation.

Them #1: "You know they have rules against age play here on SL."

Me: "Have you seen that island the Moles made in the the middle of the Blake Sea? It's really a fun place to boat out to and explore."

Then #1: "Did you get my last post, you really should try to look older."

Me: "... and to the North of the island, they have a nice golf course. I was skeptical about Second Life golf, but it's actually pretty fun. Would you like a landmark?"

Another person kept pushing, until they said something like:

Them #2: "You know, you look about sisteen years old."

Me: Actually, I will be two on September 27th."

My policy is to not respond. The people I know that have had issues, have made the choice to fire back hard, and things escalated from there.

What is the reason to make a smal avatar with a "cute-lovely" face dressed up like this inviting people to follow your smal butt?

To confuse and annoy people like you? :p

Pep (With your reactions being the source of much amusement to others, like me, who *do* "get it". )

One tefah is the width of the four fingers of an average-sized man's hand, and is about 83mm (a little over three inches). It's an ancient Judaic (biblical) measurement.

An ammah (aka "cubit";) is 6 tefah long, or about the distance between thumb and another finger to the elbow on an average person.

Cubits go back to the Pharoahs!

The length of the cubit varied only slightly throughout the land and history of Ancient Egypt. Originally based on the length of the fore arm, and written hieroglyphically as such, it was also expressed as 28 fingers or 7 palms. The length of extant funerary cubit sticks varies from 523mm to 538.7mm and it is likely that the cubit used in the construction of one building differed slightly in length from that used in another building. The cubit that was used in the construction of the Great Pyramid has never been found and it is only from taking many measurements of the building that its length can be known. Both Flinders Petrie and Rudolf Gantenbrink agree that a cubit of 523.6 mm, or 20.62 inches was used in planning and construction of Khufu's tomb.

Me too! But sadly, from what I've heard & read, they dont allow people to get up close with many of these things now due to years of tourism wearing away at them- pollution, foot traffic, litter, etc. :(

To keep in-line with the OP:

I'm short in RL- 5'1".

So WHY would I want to be short in SL???? :p

Altho, in RL, being shorter has some advantages: People assume I'm a lot younger than I am, much like people assume short in SL = kid.

heh I am 5'2" in RL and 5'2" in SL on my main, and a midget/little person on an alt, and love being both

amazing how many folks do not think I am a kid on the little person, but then again, she doesn't look like a kid, just a small adult, which is what she is supposed to look like

If I remember I will post pics

I've been to those places and more, and you get close enough for all practical purposes, as engineering students say to contradict pure mathematicians, although my main sense of wonder involved wondering how bored the workmen must have been, assuming the latest theory that they weren't built by slaves is correct. Plus ca change, eh?

Pep (I don't think you understand what the "gift of the gab" is, Rha; it's not the ability to rabbit on, it's the ability to influence and convince.)

It's true they keep you at a distance at Stonehenge, but the last time I was at Blarney they were still letting you kiss the Stone (as long as you were tall enough!). There are loads of places in France and Ireland you can wander through to your heart's content also. Look up Loughcrew if you're interested, or IM me in world and I'll hook you up with some other obscure but exceptional sites.

As far as I know, Blarney is the only place that height discriminates, but that is purely for safety issues. If you aren't tall enough to reach the stone you risk falling through the gap and tumbling to your death.

I think you should stop assuming people are stupid, or ignorant, or that they "don't know" something. Where does that comment even comes from, how can you presume to know what someone you do not even know, might know, or understand, or even presume to know their educational level, or anything about them for that matter.
Remember Pep, you only see what we choose to show you here, you never really know the other person behind the keyboard, and to make such broad assumptions about them, well that is rather arrogant of you, not to mention makes you look less intelligent than you portray them to be.
(I used to think you were a smart guy, always having the answer to specific things, but I have come to realize, you only seem smart, and only in one area... English grammar, and who gives a hoot about that on the internet? Your comments come across to me, as someone who tries very hard to make themselves appear to be highly educated, by making others appear ignorant, or sadly, stupid.)

Yes I very much know what the gift of gab means, just because it is not apparent here, doesn't mean it is not there in my reality. Remember, I most likely am not what I appear to be on here.

(I actually am much different in RL, and shockingly, well liked, and not confrontational, and very much have the gift of gab, imagine that LOL)

Of course. I keep forgetting that the way that people post here does not necessarily reflect their real personalities and they are just faking their inability to express themselves effectively.

Pep (I'm President Obama in real life, myself)

PS On the other hand, why do people keep telling me that I have to take posters here at face value and not question the personae they present?

I guess it'd be at the discretion of whoever was working the Stone that day. I have seen stringbean 5 year olds allowed to kiss the Stone and average sized 12 year olds denied the privilege. The deciding point seemed to be whether the child in question could follow the safety instructions, so perhaps it was more about maturity and common sense than height.

Probably to avoid confusing you, because you give me the impression you confuse easily when it comes to posters and how they choose to present themselves.

The thing is, if a poster chooses to post like an idiot, or chooses to not correct typos, or chooses to post like an ignorant individual, it is not up to you, me, or anyone to continually correct them.
(sure a once in awhile comment or friendly advice is fine, but why go out of your way, to ridicule them and post in such a way as to give the impression that you are better than them?)

very possible
however I do not see myself making that trip anytime soon, so not going to worry about it :)

(do they have a blarney stone in SL and not the old pub, but the stone)

So what is this to do with the evidence presented by your forum personality suggesting you most definitely do *not* have the gift of the gab as you claimed?

Pep (And I didn't even mention your split infinitives . . .oops!)

PS I can't make you think that I am better than you; only you can persuade yourself of that.

What's gross about the RL Blarney Stone is that it's all black and dirty from all those people kissing it. I took one look and decided that talking is overrated.
