Don't feel bad. My avatar is 5' 3" in flats, so I'm shorter than you.

I was discussing this problem with an SL friend. A lot of people make their avatars taller than normal. I think a lot of it is about ego and vanity. For men, I think the thought process is"Gee, I want to be more impressive than the other male avatars that you'll run into. I guess I'll dial my height up." For women it's, "Hmm, I want to be supermodel beautiful. Models are tall. I'll just dial up my height."

What neither gender realizes is that SL's starting avatar heights are already slightly taller than average. Men are already around 6' or so and women start around 5' 8". Also when playing with your height there is no indicator when altering your appearance of how tall you are in game. You need some sort of prim device to measure that for you. I think a lot of the rampent gigantism that you witness in SL could be avoided if the Lindens just included a height indicator when altering your appearance.

I often just have to shake my head at all the men over 6'6" and the women over 6'. It just gives me an idea on who hasn't been paying attention to the virtual world. I look at it as a possible sign of self-confidence/image issues. Not always, mind you. But it is a warning sign.

Maybe it's the Picks in your Profile that are scaring people away.

Well, for reals. She says that people won't even talk to her... I'd be leery myself. I'd say there's a 0% chance that it has to do with her size.

Some times I wonder. I mean... ~MY~ groups list is MUCH more scary, in a matter of speaking. =^-^=

Hi Dove! I am 5'6" and have had guys tell me to make myself taller for them at which point, i say "oh really?" and then mute them (GreenLife gives a great MUTED user reply). Do not worry about your size. You are NORMAL.

About your profile picks...

#1 - Referring to yourself as bitchy in anyway is a detour sign for most people. I know i will not even try to be friends with someone that has in their profile how big of a bitch they can be to you (regardless of what can set that off). It is scary.

#2 - Your "4. My Rules of Secondlife" PICK are too many.

#3 - Indirect insults to the masses also keeps people, specifically the masses, at bay.

#4 - Never use the "drama" word under ANY circumstances in ANY profile pick or anywhere in your profile at all for the matter. That word is like an albatross to the person using it in their profile and drama always seems to find them because of it...somehow.

#5 - Your "6. It is the way it is" PICK will leave a bad taste in most anyone's mouth. Especially this: "7. Last but not least..I'm right your wrong, always, so don't bother arguing with me."

I would leave all the comments to the noobs and the sex geeks. Just remove the references to how tough/bitchy you can be, and all the angry stuff about people calling women bitch....oh, and remove the drama word and make no mention of 'drama' in anyway shape or form.

Just my 2L.

My avatar is 7 feet counting my shoes apparantly. I spent some time working on my shape during my first days inworld, before I even figured out how to get off OI. Since there is no actual indication of what the height is in appearance mode, I had no clue I was that tall. I got used to my shape as it was, and while I have put on some muscle and had a nose job since then, the height remained the same. I'm a creature of habit, really. I'm fine being one of the tall ones. *shrugs* ;)

I have a couple of alts that are all much shorter (since I "knew better" when they were born :p ), the shortest is 4 feet 4 inches.

I don't let rules like those sway me, if I feel like talking to the person I will, if not I won't

I spoke with the op in world, and regardless of the rules she outlined, she is a nice person

probably hanging with the wrong crowd...

(happens a lot it seems in SL and elsewhere LOL)

heh my take on these rules...

1 bitchy? really? how bitchy? I must find out. heh (and most times they are not bitchy at all)

2 how many is the right amount, where does it cross the line of too many?

3 only an insult if you take it as an insult, I did not take any of the comments personally, how could I, they do not know me, nor did they reference me

4 drama can be a good thing, ask anyone in the movies, or on stage... so yeah, drama has it's place and can be entertaining

5 don;'t recall the # 5 one so *shrug* guess no comment LOL

6 ah I am right, they are wrong, so I won't argue anyway (let them think they are right, I don't care) hehe

seriously though, are her rules any worse than seeing those ones who say I belong to so and so, F with me you F with them

or I am so and so's brother/sister/etc you mess with them I will mess you up

and so on and so on and so on

at least the OP puts out there what they expect of SL, and by doing so they eliminate the type of people that they probably would not get along with anyway

it is their SL, their choice to do it how they please, and I highly doubt that the picks have anything to do with people having issues with the op's height (ie too short to work, and such)

heck, I am tempted to start a midget club, and have only midget proportioned avatars there... might actually go over well LOL
(I personally think little people are adorable)

The rules in my profile are there for a reason and since none of you know me you can't possibly know the reasons i put them in there.

It is to deter those who get offended by the little things that have nothing to do with them and the ones who come to sl to ruin the experience for others, if your offended you have the issue not me, i am blunt and honest with how i want things to be in my world and perspective.

As for the bitchy people in here who had to add negative comments in here its people like you that make others leave sl and not want to return, you all have this thing where you have to be snide and cruel just because it funny or it makes you feel like you got your two cents in...stop it ok people have low self esteem because you don't care about anyone but yourself and feel you have to hurt others. If you don't have something nice to say then keep your trap shut and leave the comments to those who have a heart.

No i was defending myself against the rude comments which were uncalled for and unnecessary and totally unrelated to the reason for my post in the first place.

/me looks back over this thread and fails to find one rude reply, finding instead some supportive comments, a couple "meh, I'm short too" comments and some politely stated, constructive suggestions.

/me starts to understand the problem.

Thing is........SL feet and inches are smaller than RL ones I reckon. I'm 5'6"" RL measurements but that translates to about 6 ft SL - it's the measurements that are different, not my height!!!!

It doesn't matter what i say everyone will still attack me and not realize that this thread was about my sl height not about my profile and what is or not in it, that is my business not anyone else, if you guys can't understand that then I cant do anything about that.

Yes the comments were rude to me, judging me, when they didn't even know me, i said the reasons i wrote things in my profile were to deter the ones i don't want around me, it takes a real person to get past the things i wrote and see the person i am. People in my sl past were the reasons i wrote what i wrote in my profile so yes i have to be more strict with it so i don't attract those types again. I still get people talking to me who don't care whats in my profile and it doesn't bother them so i know that is not the problem.

that is because they were removed

I saw rude replies that had nothing to do with height

the op asked about height, that was all

people took it upon themselves then to search for her profile and then find issues with it, instead of commenting on the avatar height issue and how the person is treated due to their height

I have to wonder, if the op had a blank or minimal profile would the naysayers then have said anything at all?

*shrug*

As another very short ava who has never had any form of discrimination from strangers due to my height, never been taken for a child, nor have I had any lack of male attention either, my suggestion is to put everything aside for now. Why not do an experiment for a couple of weeks and change your appearance? It's only temporary and this way you can correctly access if it is indeed because you are too short as you say, or if it is something else, as others seem to imply.

Rule out one or the other. Seems a rather simple solution to finding an answer to your problem.

not everyone will attack you, only some, because they can not help but attack people
(note I am not naming names, or pointing out anyone in anyway, I am just saying, it happens, it always does, always will)

sadly SL is very much like RL in that regard.
There will always be people who feel the need to find something negative about everyone :(

ya know, this... "People in my sl past were the reasons i wrote what i wrote in my profile so yes i have to be more strict with it so i don't attract those types again." was exactly how I read your profile.
I knew it did not pertain to me, after all you did not know me, so why would it?
why would I take it personally? I didn't.

So, that being said, I im'd you and I am glad I did. Even though we did not speak long, you seemed nice and I think that you just had a few too many bad experiences in SL.
I can so totally understand where you are coming from with the comments in your profile.

I just hope it does help to deter the type of people you are trying to avoid, because usually, that type doesn't give a damn, and will continue to be that type.

(if that makes sense)

also try visiting many different places out of the norm of the places you usually visit, it just could be the mind set of those people in the places you frequent.

I used to get told my profile was scary. And many a person has asked me if they could quote it. It has since changed.

If someone complains about the attention they are getting, regardless of what they say the reasons are, people are going to look deeper since maybe the OP does not smell the poop on their knee's. That is what goes with posting in here: scrutiny and criticism - some constructive, some not so much.

A LOT of people never read profiles, so i do not think that is her major problem.

But it definitely keeps away some people, without a doubt. And obviously those it keeps away are undesired anyway it seems.

So, 2 tears in a bucket...f@ck it.
