I do read profiles and some are very strange, like people are very defensive.
What's funniest is the people who fill in their profiles and write hostile warnings about profile stalkers -- Why do they fill them in? - They don't have to!!

I am 4'3" in SL.. and the only time I have gotten questioned about my 'age' is when I dress in a school outfit. In this, the clothes does tend to cause some prejudging.

Most will let it pass, some won't. I don't loose any sleep over those who don't, because my profile lists my real age anyways.

Profiles are ment to be a way to express yourself as you see fit. Those that are against profile stalkers should just keep it empty.
You put in there what you wanna share, simple.

Yes some remarks in your profile sound hostile, but seen them many times before and doesn't suprise me at all.

As for your avatar length, nothing wrong with that. It's your avi, your choice. my standard avi is tall, and grey. My alt has a 'childsize' avatar. Profile says:

"I am not a child!! I just stopped growing for some f*** reason"

So far only one place, and strangely a PG rated mall, warned me I was too small with that one, but that was easely solved with Wraith's 5 headed :D

Stay who you are. Don't let narrow minded people that have silly 'rules' in a world where 'everything is possible' get to you. SL has more possibilities than RL, yet some people are more narrow minded in SL than in RL, how often do you get kicked in RL for being too tall/small/skinny/fat etc etc?

psssst...Oryx....read rule #7, under list of rules.

Are you all referring to a list of rules that was in her profile? I checked her profile before the post I'm quoting was posted, and didn't find any list. Or is this just some bit of humor I'm missing from now having been around here long enough? :P

I used to get told my profile was scary. And many a person has asked me if they could quote it. It has since changed.

If someone complains about the attention they are getting, regardless of what they say the reasons are, people are going to look deeper since maybe the OP does not smell the poop on their knee's.

I keep changing my profile in an attempt to get MORE attention, but it doesn't seem to work as well as I want it to.

I was in a shop the other day, and a guy walks up to me asking if I like the items sold there, which I was wearing, as he wanted to get them as a present for somebody. As the conversation develops, it comes out that he 'would have pet the kitty, but thought it rude so shied away.'

I asked him, 'Oh? Check my profile. :)'

He said he had, but still was worred about just diving in on my tail. :)

Now, at the time, my profile flat out said 'touch first, ask later.'

Guess that wasn't direct enough, so now it says "PLEASE touch the Kitty. Don't ask, just touch. The Kitty loves being pet."

:D

Its hard to be an attention whore when everyone's so scared of offending. It's not like its RL and I'm afraid of your cooties (or worse). :P

My avatar is 7 feet counting my shoes apparantly. I spent some time working on my shape during my first days inworld, before I even figured out how to get off OI.

Darion - the pick you posted there makes me wish my lag was better and I could see you in detail. I may be a short little kitty, but that's still a fine looking bit of furrball I'm seeing there in those boots. :D

I didn't end up short on purpose. I just didn't adjust the slider at first, and when I finally did, it was an attempt at fixing a squashed looking proportions problem in my AV. Somehow I managed to get a petite and curvy look, I have no idea what dial-combo did it, so I'm not about to touch -ANY- of those body shaping dials. :)

My Avi is 5"6, slightly taller if I am wearing heels. I've been told I was too short two or three times, though I've never been mistaken for a child. But I was told this by Avi's that were probably about 8 ft tall with enormous boobs and 1 inch waists so, whatever.

On profiles - I'm an avid reader. The bigger part of the first impression for me is not Avi's appearance but what they put in the profile. Personally, I am very turned off by profiles that sound angry and/or hostile. Assertive is one thing, hostile and nasty is another. This is someone I will avoid because who wants to deal with that? The person may be perfectly nice, but I probably won't make any effort to find out.

Oh and btw - I've been in SL 3 years. I like to think I know my way around. However, if someone who's been in SL since 2003 (the beginning) bothered to offer me a little advice regarding something that has to do with SL culture, I'd still take a moment to listen and consider without immediately getting offended. Experience means something.

My 2c.

Pick 4...Rule #7...suggests that you are not to comment negatively on the profile. I was corrected and withdrew comments.

Was also reminded in another thread, that I have not been placing smiley faces into the appropriate slots....which is probably another reason I got the lashing. :)

I'll do better next week. :)

and you know what makes SL wonderful, you don't have to make any effort to find out, that is your choice.

And no one is gonna lose any sleep over it.

Just like it is the choice of the account holder what they want to put in their profile, no one is forcing anyone to read them.

On another note....

(what the heck is a profile stalker?)

Nor was I suggesting that any "sleep would be lost" over what is MY personal preference and yes - MY choice, Rha. I was simply expressing an opinion, like all of us here on the forums, on the subject of profiles that are have excessively negative language. I am well aware of what my choices are. But thanks, since you felt the need to point it out.

Like me, my avatar is 5"4'. I've never been discriminated against. I don't appear to be a child or teen, though.

The furball you see is Loren, he's almost ten and has his own flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29457028@N07/ I am scared he'll stab me in my sleep and try to take over as the main account one day though :p

Eeep!

Let me hastily retract what I'd said before.

p.s.: That's one reason why I'm looking forward to age verification. I'd hate to make that mistake -in SL-.

I have nothing to add to this thread other than I should have named my avatar Hulk Manchunk.

This is the sort of comment that is probably not appropriate for the new Answers system. It is also one of the main reasons I read these forums! When they close down Resident Answers here, I hope we can find a new place to help people and have fun at the same time.

Don't really see how age verification is gonna help on that (maybe I misunderstood the comment), but if you met him inworld there'd be no mistake. ;-)

Thing is........SL feet and inches are smaller than RL ones I reckon. I'm 5'6"" RL measurements but that translates to about 6 ft SL - it's the measurements that are different, not my height!!!!

I read in an FAQ somewhere that it is supposed to be an exact match - 1' in SL = 1' in RL. But early on people dialed up the height slider, and builders made furniture for the giants rather than by using in game measurements.

Thus, a 5'5" woman in SL - my avatar, is short - even though in RL she's tall.

I have a friend who is short in SL, she has been asked occasionally if she's a child av, she always points out she has adult breasts.

One adult place was polite, it doesn't allow them and checked in IM with her now and then. Another adult place she got kicked out of by an av half her height. This av said she was no good as a short woman and yet he was ok because he was some sort of other short natured creature. Go figure that, anti human or something.

After reading the OP's profile, its clearly not her height keeping everyone away.

And apparently I am a drama junkie because I don't agree with her. Weird isnt it? When the source of the drama is her and her profile.

I dont have anything to prove to you negative people, to the previous post you started it with me remember i only defended myself that is when you became the drama junkie because you would not shut up and mind your own business.

I dont care what any of you say, thank you to the ones who were supportive on the topic at hand and to the others all i can say is i hope you see a doctor for your problems im sure shrinks are not that expensive where you are.

Briana if that comment about someone running guard for a 1 year old was directed at me you better retract it, i am not one years old i have been in sl much longer this is just a new av.

My shrink is a $100/visit and i see her every 6 weeks for "maintenance" as they like to call it.

"you better retract it"??? Or else what?

You don't mind tossing mass insults around, so deal with it.

And just like the RULE goes. People who put the word "Drama" in their profile are always involved and skilled at it, as you are proving.

Sorry, this is a FORUM, statements like "you better <fill in the blank>" do not work well at all in them, unless you happen to be the owner and or moderator.

Anyways....have a nice SL.
