When putting people on ignore..

no it was not, it was to ask if I was missing something, I did not name any names or disclose why I felt the need to use ignore, just that I have had to use it and noticed how it did not stop quotes from the ignored party and was wondering if I missed something.

If it was meant to incite reactions, I would have eluded as to who was ignored and why (without naming names of course)

and yes, it is hard to watch and just not reply (sometimes) and it is even harder to see something and not read it (for me)

I am curious as to what you both think you saw.
If it were posted by someone else would you still have thought the same thing?

Sadly some folks think I always post to get a reaction. I post to get information.

It's a pretty cheap shot to accuse the OP of inviting controversy when any fule kno that a thread needs something folks can get their teeth into for the purposes of discussion. I'm grateful for this thread because I opened a poll on the issue of the 'Ignore' option last week but I was disappointed by the lack of discussion about why people might wish to use it.

In any case, I wasn't being disingenuous when I apologised earlier for suggesting "you started it", Rhaorth, because it is all too easy to blame the OP when folks go at one another like "fishwives on market day" as I think I said elsewhere.

the thing is, some people just like to lay the blame on others regardless of the situation.

That being said, it was much easier for them to point at me because I started the thread, and insinuate that I started it just to get people fighting and bitching at each other.

I do not feel at home on these forums, if anything I feel like I am in some place that is no one's home, yet I have to walk around on egg shells because someone is lurking around a corner ready to pounce.

most of the time, I do not let it bother me when someone takes a snide attitude towards me, but sometimes I just feel like crap (sick, headaches, body hurts, etc) and it just gets to me. When those times happen, yes I do say something, after all, if the person saying it did not mean it a certain way, how will they know how it was taken, if someone doesn't say something? (and for those who feel the need to say, but Rha you always take things personally, don't bother saying it, cuz I already know folks feel that way, and nothing I say or do will change that)

It shows me that you care about some of the people here enough, that you are willing to make the effort (it was like pulling teeth trying to get you to understand it was not a "correcting your grammar" kind of thing, but a more of a "it hurts to read your text" kind of thing.) (but now I think you understand what some of us were trying to tell you)

I was only responding to the observation that you were feeling falsely accused, which is why I quoted you. The remainder of the post was about why we shouldn't take the negative responses of other posters personally. Some folk are masters at gnomic one-liners designed especially for the purpose of starting an online barney for the sake of it, which is trollish behaviour. While I agree there's always at least one such individual lurking around ready to pounce, I would argue that's par for the course and it is simply a matter of deciding whether it is worth your while to take their bait or better to ignore them.

Most importantly, of course, you should not let it get to you.

I agree that ignorance is bliss. And if someone is put on “ignore” in these forums and others quote them, then there’s just a matter of self-control and scroll over.

I have this forum way down on my list of priority. So I often don’t come back and read threads that I’ve posted in. I know this can be “bad forum etiquette”.

“RL comes first” is such a cliché, but it’s true. And after I’m done with RL chores and can have a bit of playtime, I choose to spend time in SL, taking pictures, post on flickr…. Then comes this forum, if I have time and feel for it. I miss both “thank you” and “you suck” replies that way.

So it’s no fun to pick a fight with me.

I discovered this feature this morning by accident. I didn't know it worked for chat. I was thrilled because it makes it a lot easier to read.

I've tried chat bubbles, and changing type size, color, duration, etc., and it's still hard to read. But I was able to see the tiny mosquito flying around my kitchen this morning, something I would have liked to miss.

ah now I understand (and my headache is mostly gone which helps)

an all day headache doesn't help when trying to make sense of things LOL

yes I agree, I (can not speak for others) have to learn to not let it get to me, and I am doing better than I have done in the past. Much better to ignore

oh and going on WOW and killing baddies helps too

oh also when you have the communicate window open, you can detach the local chat window from it (it is the little double arrow icon thing at the top right)
then drag it and resize it to where ever you need it.

I love this feature, especially if there is a lot of gesture spam going on, I just click open the window, make it as small as possible, and it all gets contained in there.

Really Rha! I would put you on ignore, but I so enjoy the stupid things that come outa your mouth. It's really cool how you dig yourself in deeper everyday. Cheers!
