I don't mind typo's for the most part, I can usually glance through them. What causes my brain to shutdown immediately is chat speak. A few u's and 2's and kewls and wuts and ending every sentence with lol and I wind up like Nomad when Capt Kirk pointed out he was imperfect.

I'll tell you what I will do. I will try VERY hard to type correctly so that you can read what I write...Now I can't promise I will type free of errors. And sometimes my mistakes will creep in but I will do my best to make it easier to read me...

I can read and understand what you write without any problem, unlike a few posters that pop up on occasion and don't use periods, commas or grammar. I struggle with those posts and try to read them because I assume they are probably not native English speakers, or they have not had the opportunities in life for schooling I have.

I met a lot of people in Alaska who couldn't read or write when I worked for a Christian relief agency. It was not due to laziness, more a messed up family life (or underfunded schools in Native villages), and I give them a pass on illiteracy and respect them for being able to survive a nightmare upbringing that I was fortunate I never had. I like to encourage anyone who can not write or read to learn because I know what they are missing out on. Ideally, we would have 100% literacy in the US, but typos and a few misspellings are far from illiteracy and nagging people who have an occasional misspellings, or use Internet-speak, is wrong, and mean, in my opinion.

I see permanent halos around lights and find it difficult to read chat type in world, or read the type on computer screens because of glare. I've had people get angry at me for not responding to chat because I missed it, so I include a request to IM me in world or send a note-card in my profile.

I understand that we all have different things that irritate us, and that's fine. It's through practice that we learn, and I don't like to discourage anyone from practicing writing and developing language skills.

Just checking but do you know that you can change a load of Chat settings such as colour, opacity, size, number of visible lines and even the duration for chat to remain onscreen? Go to Edit > Preferences > Text Chat where you will find the options. You can also decide whether or not you want the text to go all the way across your screen and even the opacity of the background (chat bubbles), which might reduce that halo effect.

I also find it handy to click the 'Communicate' button at the bottom of the window and keep the 'Local Chat' tab open when there are a lot of folk around. This makes it a good deal easier to review and follow what is being said. Chat doesn't pop up onscreen in that case unless you minimise the box.

I'll tell you what I will do. I will try VERY hard to type correctly so that you can read what I write. I still think mistakes will be in what I write. I hate following rules. But for the forum I will do so, so that you really dont get the wrong impression of me.
I also won't make age discrimination comments. It's easy to do and it's not fair to any of you. I wouldn't want it if I was older. I will make several of these apologies over the next little while so you can see I am serious.
Now I can't promise I will type free of errors. And sometimes my mistakes will creep in but I will do my best to make it easier to read me. I am not being sarcastic. I mean what I type. That way we can make our peace. Jig Chippewa.

Rudyard Kipling used to write his stories with no punctuation, then at the end he would put this message:

" . , ; : ? ! ' ( ) - Dear Mr Publisher please feel free to put these wherever you think appropriate

OK, put it after car.

Pep (recycle the comma after somewhere, and replace it with a semi-colon)

excellent! that reply was no doubt more eloquently delivered, but certainly the same as what your 10 year old daughter says when she has no argument.

maybe you should have just called me poohead.

Your overt lack of comprehension is merely magnifying your foolishness. I have attempted to explain several times in increasingly simple words what you are obviously unable to understand, but will desist now.

i thank you for giving me the right to post, and then spending your precious time trying to take your gift back by talking in circles with such transparency. i feel so special now that you've put so much of yourself in to me. i am honored to have been bestowed all this attention, but disappointed to learn that you are a quitter.

I said "of course you have the right to post". If I had said "of course the sun rises in the East" it would not mean that I was responsible for making the Earth spin in that direction.

I myself, when I see a post that is obviously meant to incite a reaction, am learning to just not say a thing, and let them look like the fool instead :)

Wouldn't the original post of this thread be an example of that?

But I do agree with you......it's so hard not to watch......and not to say a word.....isn't it? :)

Hm. I personally do NOT see the original post of this thread to be an example of that. Care to elaborate?

well I kind of saw it the same way a little, but because it was pretty much just a feeling that I got from it and not necessarily what it was, I say nothing :P But yea, I think I saw what Mickey saw.

Perhaps Ralektra, but you didn't go through with the need to publicly point it out.

Oh no! The original post in a forum devoted to asking questions should never be intended to encourage responses, should it?
